#Novation #MiniNova Key Replacement (Part 2)
มุมมอง 1.8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Watch as I replace and octave of keys on my MiniNova. In the middle the framerate gets a little choppy because of some encoding issues. Hopefully you find it useful if you have a key break on this beloved synth. Key replacement part 1: th-cam.com/video/FZ4MILyJ-So/w-d-xo.html
My MiniNova Broke! This Is How I Fixed It.
มุมมอง 2.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Unfortunately a key broke on my MiniNova. As I enjoy videos featuring this great synth I went straight away to repairing it. I hope this video is helpful to anyone else that has this happen to them. I apologize for the sound quality. I recorded it with my phone while my 3D printer was running so there is a little noise.

Deep Haus - Jam #novation #circuit #behringer #td-3
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I just got a TD-3 and wanted to do a quick jam with it. Featured in the video is the TD-3 and the Novation Circuit. The MS 70-CDR is providing effects for the TD-3. I love the sound of the TD-3. I've used TB-303 software emulators before and have to say having an actual analog version is a completely different experience! It's so warm!

MiniNova - Front Panel Editing
มุมมอง 15K7 ปีที่แล้ว
Here I demonstrate how you can make patches on the MiniNova using only the front panel. I tend to get lost in my own world when I'm editing patches so it will be a good idea to watch what I'm doing more then just listening. I apologies also for the audio sync issues at the end. I don't know why but I just could not get them to sync. Tags: synthesizer, novation, mininova, ultranova, patch, edit,...
Hardware Editor For Novation Circuit
มุมมอง 4.4K7 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I showcase the project that I'm working on to bring a hardware editor to the Novation Circuit using the Launch Control XL and some software that I wrote. In the video I couldn't remember one of the poly modes of the Circuit. I finally remembered that it was unison mode. Lol! Anyway, if you like this video and want to see more of this project please like or subscribe.

I finally got time to do another video in my mini pack series. This is the "Plasma Waves" pad. Again this whole pack will be ambient pads. Subscribe if you want to know when the next one comes out.
The oscillator drift with release is a cool idea. I have a Ultranova so this helps a ton
Obrigado 😍
Yeah techno!
My mininova is on the way. This is very helpful, thanks!
That's great! It's really quite the beast. Enjoy your new synth!
nice jam
Thanks!
Just bought a mininova and was sad to hear it sound so digital, even though a clean wave is nice. In the 80's I played the Juno 106, Oberheim OB-8 (Loved that synth!), JX-3P (got rid of it and got the 106 thankfully). However, this saved me the return to Amazon! I planned to use the Mininova as more of a sound module. Thanks so much! Now I can enjoy my purchase! So well done! I've been creating patches for many years (even the dreaded DX-7, which took days to program). You are very talented!
After using all those amazing classic synths it'd be hard for any modern synth to live up to that. I love those ones from the glory days. That's what made me reacquire an Akai AX-60. I'm glad you found some use from my video! I hope you enjoy your MiniNova! The nice thing you'll enjoy from it is how deep and atmospheric of sounds you can make with it. It's an Ambient powerhouse!
Mi puoi spiegare come collegare assieme?
Midi out from the Circuit to midi in of the TD-3.
Does it have a sequencer?
No. But it has the best arpeggiator I've ever seen.
@@System-1541 Awesome, I've been offered one for £180
❤
great tutorial, thanks.. be nice if we could also see what your doing with the right side of the board, re filter knob, etc
Soooo helpful, thanks a lot.
Great tips, greetings from brasil
I get my mininova todat but do i need to update the mininova or is it good out from the box ?
It is good out of the box. If you got it new I'd be surprised if it doesn't have the newest update. There's a few extra things they added in the latest version, but it's still a great synth either way you go. The manual should show you how to check your version.
You just need the Novatronix Soundpack for the MiniNova, it's amazing.
Very helpful video! I'm getting my Mininova next week, it's used but little used. I hope she doesn't break any teeth 😜 A small hint: It would certainly be helpful to put a soft foam mat underneath when screwing, about 2-3 cm thick, to protect everything! A magnetic screwdriver and a compartmentalized box for the screws would also be helpful! Thanks for the video! ❤️👍
Be very carful with this keyboard had mine for a few year not used it much when I did go to use it the keys decided to break there are a few of them coming lose badly made.very disappointed wasn't exacly cheap either.

Is the key still in place? :) 2023...
Rly cosmic and epic. Like this so much!
Огромное спасибо!
How do I get to the initial patch. I’ve searched your videos but I need step 1
Scroll to bank C. Those are all init patches.
how do u make a patch that sounds like somethin out of a nes game
Try using one PW oscillator. Keep the filter open all the way and no resonance. The amp envelope should have sustain all the way up and no release. Experiment with different phases of the pulse width on the oscillator. A thin pulse width gives a real nice NES sound. You could also try cranking up the speed of the arpeggiator and shortening its gate. When you hold down a chord that'll give you that really fast jittering effect you often hear in 80's games.
@@System-1541 which default patches work the best for this
trying to find a good instrument on the default patch list for this but idk what sounds could work
Dam I just bought one of these looks like a menu diving nightmare for a newbie
Did try using the software editor yet? Doesn't work for me..
I think this does to much as a beginner is there a synth where I don't need to Be in the menu ?????
The Roland Gaia sh-01, Korg Minilogue, Behringer Pro 800 and Behringer Deepmind 6 are good options for a poly-synth in this price range.
you have 200 plus factory preset sounds, and if you need more you can download them. You don't have to touch the menu to have lots of fun. there's a lot to do on the knobs on the front to make cool sounds
When my mini shows up gonna be intimidating big time
Nice explanation but my eyes are a little bit in trance jaja😅
Great ! 👍
😲 OHH, and also, You have a great channel! I learned a lot with the arpeggiator info. you went over, and boy it looks like you can do a lot with this lil' keyboard!!! I was asking if it has any automatic accompaniment that will play along with you while you play a song. You know, bass, drums, etc. Thank You for making it, and taking the time to go over some of the things you can do with it... Once again, Thank You, Jeremy from Virginia Beach VA ⛱️ 👍👌🎸 🎹 🎵🎶🎵🎶✌️
Thanks! No, the MiniNova is what is called mono-timbral, meaning that it only plays one preset at a time. So there are no accompaniment tracks, like drums or bass. Roland has a couple like that though. The jdxi and the Jupiter XM for example. Congrats on getting your MiniNova for $90! I got mine for $400.
A LITTLE HELP PLEASE: I recently got one of these keyboards at a yard sale, and i got it for $90 I was wondering if it comes with any kind/type of accompaniment with it... you know, like drums, background band type of music??? And it changes when you switch chords and stuff... please help me with this question... i have the instruction booklet being mailed to me as we speak, but its just so cool, i cant wait... any input would be appreciated. Thank You, Jeremy in Virginia, VA Beach (east coast) ⛱️
No. this is just a digital 3 oscillator synthesizer. What you want is a Arranger Keyboard or a workstation. Those play samples of many types of recorded instruments. The mininova is a synthesizer where you make your own sounds with the 3 oscillators, or download sounds from the internet and transfer them to the synth. You can make sounds on the synth or in a editor on the PC.
One of the best polyphonic synths in terms of functionality. You can do some complex things that sound killer
thank you for this video
Tremendously helpful! Thank you!
That arpeggiator is really powerful!
I wanna know to save
come on people show me at first how to reach initial patch :)))
Bank C is all initial patches.
Clean your camera lens, dude! :D
Actually I need to upgrade my wide angle lens. This one has aberrations.
Who needs that hassle, right? I wonder if Novation has improved the durability of the keybeds since this video was made?
Well, every instrument, especially electronic, Is going to need repaired sooner or later (Just ask analog synth owners). This is especially true with mini keys, because the key bends instead of having a hinge. Any synth with a mini key keyboard is going to brake sooner or later. I'm beginning to wish I didn't make that comparison to the pss-480 in this video. That keyboard didn't get nearly the use that the MiniNova did. I'm pretty sure its keys were a lot more stiff and not as pleasant to play too. I recently sold my MiniNova so I could get an UltraNova, because it has more hands-on control of the synth engine. Even so there is a lot I miss about the MiniNova. I would highly recommend this synth still, especially for performance.
Hello, I wonder if you can help me? The tempo knob on my Mininova seems to move occasionally on its own which is very frustrating when I'm using an arpeggiator as it knocks things out sync. Could remedy to this to be take off the knob and tighten it? If so, how do I get the knob off? I dont want to break it. Any thoughts or suggestions are very welcome. 😊
This is most likely because the knob connection is dirty. You'd fix this by taking it apart and cleaning it with deoxit. I never removed any knobs from mine. But typically, you'd remove the knob cap by pulling it (but not forcing too hard) straight up. Around the shaft there should be a nut. Unscrew that. You'll have to do this for all the knobs connected to the PCB that the tempo knob is connected to. Take the MiniNova apart like I show in the video, except for removing the keyboard. You'd then unscrew the tempo knob PCB from the front panel. Once you've done that spray the knob (you might as well do all of the knobs while you have it apart) with the deoxit. Follow the deoxit instructions on how to do this. You'll want to twist the knob a few times to get the deoxit all around the shaft and make sure the dirt gets cleaned out. Then put it all back together.
@@System-1541 Thanks, I appreciate the detailed response. I'm just surprised as I've only had it 4 months and its only been inside my house. I tried to pull the knob off but its doesn't move and I'm concerned too use too much force. Perhaps pliers might be a better shout?
@@paperclipsquash If you got it new I'd recommend that DO NOT try to fix it. It should still be under warranty, so contact Novation and see if you can get them to replace it. They're good to their customers, so I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.
When I save some music, I don't know how to find it again 😔 can you explain, show how to do it 🙏?
Are you talking about saving patches?
yeap i warned people ten years ago not to buy this synth but was most likely ignored, novation made a complet shit keyboard. destroyed so many kreativ hours for me, it just feels bad to pick up the mininova at this point. I Had a jx305 from roland over twenty years it never broke (go figure). anything past the year 2000 is trash is my new motto.
Harsh.. And in accurate. It's a two for one deal 😂
Hi man, do you know if I can import SF2 instruments into Mininova?
The MiniNova has it's own internal sound engine. It doesn't play sound fonts. Sound fonts play through computer software like Native Instruments' Kontakt. NI does have midi controllers mapped the their software if you want the hardware feel.
@@System-1541 thank you
@@System-1541 just ordered one, can't wait to get into all the modulations! Having said that, I'd also need a Hammond and an Indian harmonium-type sound. Do you know of any packs that offer those type of sounds?
@@adamcsorghe8815 There are some good jazz organ patches in the factory presets. I'm assuming you mean Hammond's jazz organs. I'm not sure what an Indian harmonium sounds like but I think there is like harmonica, accordion or bagpipe sounds that might come close in the factory presets as well.
MUY LINDO!!! Felicitaciones desde Argentina
¡Gracias!
Thank you so much!!!
Anybody make a video for semitone transposition?
Do you mean transposing what you're playing on the keyboard or changing the oscillator tuning?
@@System-1541 the keyboard semitones for a band tuned a half step down. I found it! But a video would be awesome!
I just bought one of these, and really appreciate you taking time to make it... For anyone struggling with how to even get to this menu hes on its pg. 6 of the manual (Scrolling through Patches)
He shows how to open the menus in the video…
How do you save the patch you made?
Press the save button that's below the screen.
@@System-1541 So that overwrites the current patch?
@@richardlafond5007 Only if you want to. You can use the data knob to select one of the init patches on bank C, give it a name, select a genre etc.
@@System-1541 Thank you the information!
Of course, I find this video right after I buy a mininova. Algorithm you failed me yet again.
If you use anything as much as I used my mininova, it will need to be repaired eventually. I mentioned the pss-480 lasting longer in the video, but at second thought, I never played that thing nearly as much as the mininova. You didn't make a mistake with your purchase. You're gonna love it. Check out my tutorials on patch creation to see how much you can get out of it😉
@@System-1541 yeah, I know I’m still gona like it. How do you think a 3-D printed key would do? Instead of going through all this to reinforced the plastic, I’m thinking maybe just print a key with slightly thicker plastic in the area. If it does end up breaking, that is.
@@49diewj Yeah, 3D printed keys for the mininova, or any mini key bed works great. I printed when I was designing my own midi controller using a file from thingiverse that is a replica of one octave from the mininova. It'll be years before you'll need to repair your keyboard (unless you do touring), but here is the link to the file. This guy did an amazing job with these: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4605797
Man I'm glad I found you and everybody here on here has been a big help just reading through this
Thank you for these tips. I recently got a cheap MiniNova, and I will use these. The Alesis Ion/Micron has adjustable “Analog Drift” that makes a huge difference on many patches, to my ears. My only quibble is with your description of filter tracking. Tracking simply applies the virtual control voltage of each note’s pitch to the cutoff frequency of its filter-this is a common feature on synths. At the full level of 127, the filter tracks the pitch perfectly. If the filter is self-oscillating, it will play in tune only if tracking is set to 127. Sounds with highly resonant filter settings may need full tracking to maintain the right timbre for all notes. On the other hand, as you demonstrated, patches often sound better with lower tracking. Perhaps Oberheim got it right by providing 3 simple options: full, half, or none!
Thank you so much for giving me information about this synthesizer I think that might be a better option for someone brand new like me for simplicity high medium and low etc Or maybe I don't even need the feature at all for the deep and spacey sounds I'm looking for
Man, thank you so much. You're the best). Your videos are extremely useful!!!
