Warner Classics releases an exciting new recording of Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances and The Bells. These two Rachmaninov masterpieces, performed by one of the world's most renowned orchestras under their celebrated principal conductor Sir Simon Rattle. This is a rare chance to hear Sir Simon's interpretations of these great works. Towards the end of his life, the composer himself said of The Bells "I worked on this composition with feverish ardour; and it remains of all my works the one I love the most". Of the Symphonic Dances, written shortly before his death, he said "I don't know how it happened, it must have been my last spark".

Sólo diré sin palabras
So, what moron came up with the idea of having typewriter keystrokes over the music. Dunce.
And can't spell Saxophone........
この曲好きだーー!! ラフマニノフの複雑で分厚い和音と響きがいい。ベルリン・フィルももちろん素敵。
"For many people it's Rachmaninov's masterpiece" Simon Rattle referring to "The Bells" - Count me as one of those - an extraordinary work, one of the greatest musical compositions of all time!
Tempi are on the ponderous side. Rattle phrases in the wrong way with false accents and unidiomatic playing. Rachmaninov is better served by Previn,Ormandy,Ashkenazy and above all Svetlanov.
"Above all Svetlanov" Totally agree!
I agree. And the gorgeous passage for winds, featuring the alto sax, is played so briskly and perfunctorily, it has no ache, no longing.
Hector Berlioz agreed. It’s not the worst reading I’ve heard but far from the best
Nice video, though I do think Rattle was being a bit obvious when he says THE BELLS is like a symphony and then refers to sleigh bells, wedding bells, alarm bells, etc. Not very helpful to show it's like a symphony! What he should have said and obviously meant is the wedding bells section was the slow movement of a symphony, the alarm bells section was the scherzo of a symphony, etc.
Me parece bueno, es diferente su ejecucion.
Great video!
que maravillosa música
哼哼
Wow I've wanted arecording of The Bells for a long time now, I think this is the one for me.
