You came to my secondary school last year (Derbyshire), and I just remembered it now. I've been there for six long years, been through many enrichment days and they've still never had anything as interesting, thought provoking and real as you presenting your story to us. It was definitely an emotional one, but a really important message presented in a really captivating way. It's great to see that you're doing so well now, man. 👍
Thank you for your kind message Tom, really appreciate it. I hope you’re keeping well
You’re so brave for posting this. I hope you’re alright.
Hi, thanks… I’m over 15 years gamble free now and deliver education on gambling addiction in schools across the UK 😃
That was so good I watched that again, I start my first GA tonight. Hope I can do my family proud
Thank you Lewis - wishing you all the best at GA 👊🏻
i used to love getting win spins on roulette now i love getting sales on ebay cha ching.
Thanks for the comment. I hope you’re keeping well and gamble free
you are an inspiration
Hi Andy. Could you please advise on my dad's gambling addiction? He has been addicted for many years. Everyone tries to talk to him about the negative impact of gambling, but nothing works. I think the main reason is that he has not recognised that he should stop it. Do you have any way to make him have that powerful thought to immediately do something positively. Thanks
Hi June, more than happy too - privately if you wish through my twitter @andymargett - I’ll be happy to help
Thank you 🙏
Most of the gambling addicts that watched this hit the dislike button
You look really well man. Keep it going.
Thank you
Well done freind.
Thank you
It was exactly the same with me starting gambling, for which till my dad and his building site workers were the instigators sadly, I heard you mention grand national can remember in the pub as a young boy them mentioning raffle tickets for grand national, I didn't even know what it was wasn't interested, and would never probably had been without them taking me to bookies and sending me to put bets on, anyway as most will know it destroyed my life most of the time, and lost my daughters near enough hardly want to know me and lost most of my chances with grandkids, only time I really stopped was when my ex took over my money and took me off joint account so couldn't get at my pay for a few years, the other time was I went abroad so I'd stop gambling was in Holland for 3 years was amazing being a normal person doing normal things at weekend with freinds and thousands in the bank, I still looked after my family sending money home each week, there was bookies in Holland but not everywhere like here, we're i worked was a small town they were only in cities and even then because I couldn't read the papers or understand what was being said in Dutch bookies, so was never interested, sadly after a while I missed my kids too much and went back, and gambled soon as I got back there's much more stories than this over the years as most of you will know, all I've bet on is the horses but as we know there bent as fk youv got no chance, i wouldn't wish a life of gambling on anyone it's certainly the vice that costs you the most, thankfully somehow not sure how I've finally given it up with help of lockdowns, but it's not just the lockdowns that did it because as you know you can open an account and bet over the phone, but I've never bothered with that sht, it's seeing the thousands in my bank account has helped and always having plenty of money has hit home and I'm never going in those havens of misery again, the bookmakers that are so sad looking back.
That’s a heartbreaking story Mick. What I will say is how far you’ve now come in staying away from gambling, be proud of what you’ve now achieved. I’m always here for a chat privately on twitter @andyMargett if you ever need one
@@andymargett6367 yeah it's early days freind, to early to be proud because while I'm not accepted by my family mainly daughters, it doesn't feel much different in life, but I've kinda made a bit of a breakthrough with one of them, so there's hope I've still got to prove myself in many ways like getting my head back rite, but i have chances be a lot better when lockdowns finished and restrictions, plus summer instead of winter more oppertunities with life, but yes at least I've left the old life behind, thanks for your kind words of support much appreciated, and have a good weekend mate.
Quit gambling Regards 🇵🇪👍😀
Respect mate, going through it at the mo especially with lockdown booze and boredom plus single live no kids etc it's it's to easy these days what with online banking at you can use your mobile phone as payment, There should be some sort of credit check done to say yep your limit is .... Like credit cards
Hi Warren, thank you for your kind comment. It’s difficult obviously with lockdown for so many who maybe suffering any harms. 40% of banks have a gambling block on their accounts app. There’s also a gambling act review under way and it will look at affordability and what potential limits maybe to that.
@@andymargett6367 that's welcome news and about time. By main problem is greed you win then you want to double the bet and win more .. but you end up losing it all and feel like shite once it's sinks in , the low when you lose is terrible and out weights the buzz when you win.. (I keep trying to tell myself)
@@WarrentheGunner Day at a time mate. The big win is never enough, now everything I ever chased, I’ve now got without

Brother, that is a heart-felt story. I wish you continued success. A real man knows when the challenge is too strong and he can't do it on his own. Be strong and wise. I am cheering you on!! -Rob, Castro Valley, California
Thank you Rob! Really appreciate the kind words
Gambling is very addictive in some people , I myself have gambled far too much , over many years of my life. I have watched all the videos , for me people like myself lose all sense of reality and have no value on money and the consequences of gambling to much. I’m an intelligent person , I know my chances of winning are slim to none , that doesn’t stop a problem gambler. Andy starts of as we all do , there’s a level of enjoyment at first , harmless fun you might say. This for most people is fine , unfortunately it can be the start of a truly slippery slope. It’s a silent killer , you become a loner because you can’t share the problem , you lie, your anxious , it can be all consuming. I site some of my excuses as boredom , needing a buzz , I don’t drink or smoke, as I have said , if I didn’t gamble I would have thousands in the bank after a year . Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be any comfort , you just need a gamble. Gambling is even easier now since online , at least the betting shops close for the night. Britain needs a wake up call because this is an illness , this will get worse!
Thank you for the comment, I try with the work I do now, to spread awareness and give people that informed choice
@@andymargett6367 and thank you for your reply. I have isolated myself for all sites , I no longer gamble , I never got into debts like yourself , but realised that it wouldn’t be too long. Life is much better now , glad to see you came out the other side!!!
@@thebiz1066 great stuff getting blocks in place mate! If you ever fancy a chat privately I’m on twitter. Feel free to message anytime
Hi Andy, saw you in that interview on the Round Table with David Foster. I lost a lot of money with a casino and deposited another 1000 and won 50.000. I sent the vip manager an email that i wanted to lock my account till my winnings were paid out and she didn’t do that. Instead they bombarded me with bonuses and I lost everything. The reason I asked her to block my balance is because I was afraid this would happen. It is really predatory of the online casino to do this. I wasn’t even thinking about winning but just playing and playing mindlessly not eating or thinking about anything else. Its truly a disease. I’ve contacted the MGA about this matter and they are looking into it. All I wanted was my money and stop gambling completely by blocking all sites. But the casino thought otherwise.
I’m sorry you’ve struggled - did you also try any other blocking tools like Gamstop or GamBan after what has happened or before you did so? Whilst I appreciate you telling me what’s happened, I don’t really have a lot of knowledge around complaints and disputes with industry.
I also love too gamble but had most off my troubles when i was young . No controle when i was younger . Now a days i need too save atleast half the money that i want too gamble so when i got 50€ i need too put 25€ in my piggybank and it cant be used for gambling . My luck is that my wife is taking care off all the money and i just got 50€ a month . So now atleast i save 300 € a year . And i can still gamble . But yeah its really a rough sickness i had my mental hardships , i really really hated myself when i was young . Good job off staying compleetly clean !!! Deep respect for coming out .
Thank you Cees for the kind words, I’m always here for a chat if you’d like that. You can find me on twitter @AndyMargett
I've use gamstop before it got too out of hand online ...use to play fobt all the time put all the hurdles in place to make sure I don't go in those places again
Gamstop a great tool, GamBan as well very similar. There’s also MOSES and SENSE for bookies and casinos: self-exclusion.co.uk/ www.nationalcasinoforum.co.uk/sense-information/
Hi mate just come across your videos very interesting and inspiring mate ...I do gamble still but no where here to the amount I use to ..
Hi Mr GC - thank you very much, I really appreciate the kind words. If you have control, use the tools available, know what you can afford to lose and not let it take over your life, then it can be something that doesn’t affect negatively. My dad gambles, he has control. I know I’ll never have it again, one bet could set off a vicious circle of devient and lies for me.
@@andymargett6367 lockdown as help me no need only play national lottery these days ...and there is limits in place on there as well ..but I did try GA in Sheffield my yrs ago b4 my marriage broke down...but it wasn't the rite group for me ...if u no wat I mean
@@mrgc5320 everyone has different ways which they get help - I know GA has helped me massively, but I also know it’s not for everyone. People like GamCare, some like to go through NHS and various other self help groups as well. It’s about whatever suits you to make it as hard as possible to place that next bet. Sorry your marriage broke down, I hope you’re in a better place now
@@andymargett6367 yes much better place now mate
Your never the same man before or after giving up gambling but you are alive well sort of ?
Now over 5,000 days without a bet, my full time job is to talk in schools to spread awareness around gambling harm. I live in a nice house, debts nearly paid off with 3 wonderful children and my wife. Go on holiday once/twice a year, fitter than I’ve ever been and happy. Everything I’ve ever chased through gambling, I’ve got without

Happy 4 u pal.... I'm on gamstop at the moment I can control my gambling for months then have a blow out on online poker mainly, love having a flutter and hopefully I can stop the blow outs and just maintain the odd bet now again in the bookies...
Thank you You’re not alone in doing “blowouts” What I would say is try the GA 20 questions and see how you feel if you’ve got a problem. Gamstop is a great tool
Stay strong mate you can beat it

What's your opinion on the FOBT machines matey ????
Scott Tuley a gamble is a gamble end of the day for me, obviously there is varying forms of them with regards categories (bookies, arcade and casino). Also, I understand that people struggle with varying forms of gambling. For me, Education around the dangers of gambling and giving people of all ages the facts around it will help with prevention.
Yeah your absolutely bang on the money, i just was after your opinion on the machines in general tbh because i've just quit them myself they are nothing but money hoovers and predatory technology IMO
Scott Tuley I don’t really get into much debate now to be fair around much nowadays in the gambling world - I didn’t really enjoy it in all the time I talked about it on my social media (Twitter) in the last couple of years. End of the day, for me, I look after my recovery first and foremost, people have differing opinions on various forms etc. Just not really for me the debate anymore

Scott Tuley thanks and no problem - find me on twitter @andyMargett feel free to DM anytime pal if you need another ear
I have to admit I'm a gambling-betting addict. Usually I gamble away my salary within 3-5 days. The same thing happened this Monday. I was up 7300 euros in three days and then I lost it on Monday night on the Werder game and then in a panicky manner on tennis match when I bet 3000 euros on an underdog who lost in a third set in tie break by two points which made the loss even more painful. I keep going back to that game in my mind and on flashscore. I work as a live-in carer so I don't have expenses like rent or bills but I'm down to 30 pounds until my next salary on the 15th next month so basically I would be homeless if I had any other job. Actually I dread the salary date as my mind will consolidate by then and the pattern will kick in. I will be watching your videos to gather mental strength to resist.

I'm 39 now gambled since 16 , lost in excess of a million , no love for myself for since I know , hugely in debt , depressed , wife and four kids that I'll probably end up losing , been to g.a, hypnotists , psychologist, and still I'm struggling , the money is bad but as we all know it's the lies and deception that's worst and self hate . I'm in debt and scared sick but what can I do . Still see your pain after 9 years of , stoked for you for getting it in control though
Nick Collins hi Nick. It’s never ever too late to stop. Does anyone else know about it all?
@@andymargett6367 yes Andy it has been more than one time that I have had to let people know. My father could not handle it and told me I'm not worth being alive my mother is a rock most of the time my wife loves me and just wants me to change , my friends listened but have lives of there own and my relationship with myself us so cloudy due to the long jeopardy of this and self disrespect . I know it's never too late but the hole as you know can be so deep. My worst problem is becoming accustomed to really hating myself so my self worth is low , my children and wife keep me happy when I'm around them but nights and days at work are dark and like I said the lies and deception really do make my joy with my family maybe shallow in others eyes .
