I just traced my Grandmothers maternal family line back to 14 generations of Whitakers and found mention of this Historical Family Hall... Glad to see it renovated, but agree with others that it should have been RESTORED to vintage era - HATE the modern finishings. I can't help but feel my 14X ancestors would have been appalled. All that said, LOVE the front facade and slate roof - al least it can go on...

Would have been great to have seen pictures of the inside before the arsonists.

Distant ancestors from my father’s side of the family. Would love to see the old floor plan so I could recreate it in The Sims.

Google, you will find a lot of old photo's and floor plan, prior to the arson

The interiors are hideous!! Such a shame! The owners shall have to replace everything inside the home to make it look as it should. The kitchen cries out for an AGA, for example. Insides should 'speak' to the outside of a home, not come from some other planet.

What a shame !!!!! I have seen countless of renovations like that in England. It seems that the English have lost all the good taste of the past and are now sailing the waves of a perennial IKEA.

The " renovators" ran out of money by the time they got to the inside!! Funds were definitely running low!!

As a true blood descendant, it hurt my heart knowing my families manor was ruined. As a kid I always felt connected when I saw King Arthur and his knights. When I traced my bloodline back earlier this year I never realized what I would find. Though I always knew I’m English, I had no idea I came from such honorable men in history. Watching this video brought tears to my eyes because I felt the stories in the walls as it was being rebuilt. Even though it may not be right now, Holme Hall will be back in the Whitaker name where it belongs.

We are Whitaker's too. I'm so glad they are restoring this treasure. But it looks like the modern age vomited on it.

I've been digging into the Whittaker/Whitaker history as well. It would be great to find out if I'm related to the Holme Hall Whitakers.

The exterior restoration gets an A+. Moving to the inside, though... holy crap. The interior design screams 'contractor's special.' In other words, a place built to live up to a building contractor's notion of what high-end, classy, and posh looks like, while attempting to spend as little of the budget on it as possible. Usually, a 'contractor's special' is built on speculation and it's all about the profit margin, yo. Credit where credit's due: they did a very nice job on the outside; the historic shell. This grand old dame deserved better on the interior, though. And to be clear, it didn't have to be a historically sensitive interpretation. On this project, a contemporary interior is appropriate to the 'tale' of the building and, if done correctly, could have made for an interesting architectural contrast. Old and new can play off each other and actually accentuate each other in a pleasing way if art and care are involved. This result looks bland, tacky, and nebulously inappropriate.

Why turn such a historic home into something so modern? Better off as ruin than looking like a modern office building. Looks like an architects office.

Definitely not a restoration; but rather a recovery of some materials and a new build. It did however look good. Not a real tragedy. Cheers

9:35 that kitchen is tiny. No way was that the size of the original kitchen. Overall yet another grade II listed beautiful building/home utterly ruined by modern/contemporary crap. The only thing worth a damn is the wooden wall paneling, everything else can just be returned to Ikea!! Not even one hardwood floor anywhere. What a waste of time and money.

Visited the holme in 1977 with my parents William & Linda Read, mom took many pictures of the inside. When taking the photos to be developed, the pictures were not developed. Only one picture of the outside was developed. Asking if anyone has pictures of inside when Eric Halstead and wife owned the holme in 1959- late 70's. Thank you!

The interior is awful generally, but that kitchen is a disaster. It's WAY too small, it's stark ugly modern, and there is that tackiest of all things, different flooring!

Good to see the building still standing and refitted with modern infrastructure. The slate roof is gorgeous. The interior design choices are poor, though. Cheap, banal flooring and wall coverings, especially the stuck-on faux stone wall treatment. And the bathroom tile, ugh. Already looks so outdated. Kudos for saving the building, though.
