So what exactly was Meteo, and by extension the singular Meteos? A hive mind? Floating space garbage?

I couldn't play this planet.

Its a shame these mixes don't show the dynamic range of shifting between the "safe - moderate - danger" themes, and then how good the other sound effects sound when played in the same motif!

This is an unnerving planet precisely because its the only one to drop the act of "okay but secretly this planet is a metaphor for _genre of music here_." I realized how much I relied on audio cues while playing, and Vubble takes that all away from you. Babbling brooks and waterfalls are relaxing in real life, but hearing them over your frantic puzzle flipping game is mental gymnastics -- its like, you're trying your hardest just to stay alive in the game and youre hearing nature's white noise. Nothing to keep rhythm, no obvious game noises but for birds and wind. Like even while youre playing Meteos, its playing 5D chess with you and telling you to touch grass.

I used to play with THIS planet theme in the sound effects menu for a long time. You could chain really any of its sound effects to any point in the motif and its great!

Does it though? Does it remotely sound like Galaga? Or does the grating simplicity of a square wave just sound like a trillion other robotic things you could attribute it to? Oh hey. This song ripped off my microwave "ding" sound.

For the folks asking about Havendor Hate, its more of a "you love Havendor when playing as them; you'll hate fighting AGAINST Havendor" situation. Canonically Havendor has incredibly weak gravity. So weak, that the mere act of lining up Meteos sends them INSTANTLY into orbit and launches them without a need for followup combinations. In THEORY, this makes it very difficult to create long combo chains to punish your opponent. In PRACTICE, Havendor just f*cking destroys anyone its up against because you can fire off instant bullsh*t waves of garbage whenever you want.

Sounds a little like Asteroid Field in StarFox 64

yk what i don't care that this is on some soundtrack for a game that was made and peaked in the 2000s; this is one of the most succinct and effective songs ever! it perfectly shows being alive in a song, the human condition even, follows the pulse of the song and the pulse of us humans via 4/4 with a heartbeat drum and breathing on top the two cycles creatures have, and speeds up and even hyperventilates when tensions are high and more energy and awareness are needed, goat

playing on this planet was so painfully slow, and having the soundtrack so simple with only drums and that laid back rim click is such a contrast that feels like it's laughing at you and it was great to win on
