Why? Wouldn't a BMW Straight 6 Conversion with a ZF gearbox for example yield the same if not better results?
Because that would not meet the requirements of the design brief

Had me until you involved China. Why on earth you’d involve our adversary is just insane. China is Australias economic adversary not friend. Why didn’t you actually develop the manufacturing here in Australia. Or go to the USA?That’s the breakthrough not simply going to our adversary. Very disappointing. No landcruiser owner will put a Chinese drive train on their vehicle. Anything that matters isn’t made in China I’m sorry.

Very cool but you have just turned a 90k truck into a 130k truck and still doesn’t have electric windows mirrors climate control a clutch that can handle the power brakes that actually stop it no cup holders and less than 500kg payload
I suggest changing the thumb nails on your videos, the red border looks a lot like the red bar you get along the bottom of video thumbnails when you have already watched a video. I almost ignored the video due to this.
Getting all that together and the BMS working etc feels like a big milestone. Well done

I'm assuming you have considered the mine spec ROPS and FOPS often built into their ute trays. A flat tray ute is such a perfect setup for battery space compared to any other vehicle types for retro fits.

Really loving the EE work on this - it's difficult to tell the timeline this is all taking place on, but if it's anything near video release cadence, Viv's a rockstar 😂
Hi Ken, the whole project is about 9 months from kick-off to completion. At this point in the video i believe that we are about 4 months in, and yes, Viv (and the rest of the team) are absolute rockstars. This is quality engineering done at pace with a small team.
Love your work. I'm curious why you didn't try to adapt one of the toyota hybrid inverter assemblies?
Some of the components were repurposed from previous projects and this is a concept test bench for the new XNO battery chemistry. For a production version we will streamline more.

Sick project. What's the marron hauling capacity of such a vehicle?
we are adding a 280kW electric motor to the existing V8 diesel engine, so total power is off the chart. Unfortunately the DOT regulations limit us to an extra 25% power when on the road 😥. Still that will make a considerable difference in hybrid mode and it will be very pokey in EV only mode. Maybe we can even drag off a Tesla! (just kidding)🏎
We are building this rig because we know where a giant marron is hiding. We are going to go get it. Hopefully it hasn't got bigger.

Pouch cells... Really? In longevity terms they've always expanded and been rubbish after such a short time. I hope you're not charging them to 4.2v each. I love the hybrid idea, but I feel there's been soo many oversights in this build. Good luck
Chevy Volts use pouch cells (although water cooled) and they have proved reliable for over 10 years. Keeping SOC at max 80% and not going below 10% is the secret to longevity.
Did you watch the first video? I think they mentioned it’s a different cell chemistry
Hey Matt. Yeah if mistreated, pouches are unforgiving. We built an electric superbike in 2014 that did 1/4 miles in the 9s. That was a pouch pack with a much less sophisticated BMS and overall design. It can be done, it just requires attention to detail.
