Written in a basic form in 2003 or 2004. The lead guitar line suggested the words. We were living in Treforest outside Pontypridd in Wales, in student squalor in a Victorian semi-detached. There's a lot of weather in the valleys. The title was cribbed from a T.S. Eliot poem. I don't remember why I used it but it's the kind of thing I used to do way back when.
My favourite bassline I've managed yet. And a flavour of Syd Barrett in the lead guitar.
Apprentice Green has been years in the making, rooted in demos I first recorded back in 2003. Over the course of four months, from October 2022 to February 2023, I reimagined these early sketches in my home studio, breathing new life into forgotten melodies and unfinished compositions.
Apprentice Green blends psychedelia, rock, folk, jazz, and shoegaze, spanning 10 tracks that capture a journey through time, with a runtime of 37 and a half minutes. From the first breath in to the last breath out, this album is a sonic exploration of past and present, strange and beguiling, blending diverse influences into a cohesive whole.
