My first film I created at WI Public Television in Green Bay, WI in 2002. There were no special effect software that I knew how to use. One had to use a camera to make all the moves. Wow how I have learned so much in 22 years. My grandmother Nancy Cornelius and Maria Hinton shared their stories with this new film-maker. Joanne Shenandoah also was kind enough to share her music with me too. It w...

"Found" in a safe? Now hidden in a museum? Why wasn't it returned? How was this just claimed to become public property. If an artifact has a continuing culture it is completely unethical to not reconnect it to the people. Boo Field Museum: "The possession of wampum by museums, state agencies, historical societies, universities and private collectors is a violation of our human rights, and our communal rights, religious freedom and is an infringement on our sovereignty. These sacred wampum belts and strings are an inalienable heritage of our nations, individually and collectively." -Grand Council of Haudenosaunee Chiefs
And babies don't come with instructions, either...
Skeno. I wanted to say it is common and normal when going through the sorrow and grief process to go back over events close to death. We often struggle with acceptance. And although what you teach is valid: that we cannot change this event, that it is beyond our power to change destiny. We still struggle with our feelings after loss of those we love. It is so good to have community and Elders to teach and guide. Nya:Weh.
I want to bring up two topics , The english language "expression structure" refers to all non-human life forms as "It" this important topic was brought up by indigenous speaker Robin Wall Kimmerer I asked question Why ? and did a lot of digging and found deep layers buried within our religious institutions theology that force a perspective of "Duality" upon our sense of place, elevating "Us" above "Them" that was quite disturbing and answered some of these questions. I would never refer to my grandmother as 'It" but if I was to write a technical paper in the name of science and do otherwise for animals I would be marked down for improper use of expression language, she reflects upon the deep importance of expression structures embedded within indigenous languages , that never refer to any living force woven into in the natural world as "it" when a eagle dies there is same recognition of its passing as there is with ones direct kin ,, we see you so to speak , addressing the systemic structures that impact duality perceptions is one of the deepect issues we face in today's world, condolence from this trauma can impact many layers ..
