Retirement Shadow Chest
This is a tradition for Service Men and Women who have Retired from active duty. It's a symbol of their achievements, hardships, commands, and overall tour of service. I hope this keepsake for here will be past for her family generations to come.

Well I tried to make wood wheel instead of purchasing them for 50 cents a piece. I could have cut them out for 18 cents on the CNC machine. Well 4 wheels ended up costing about 10 Dollars.

What software are you using??
I was just commenting on your CNC video and saw this. I lost my right index finger in a shaper with a 4" raised panel cutter. It was anything but pretty.

I could be wrong… but it looked like you were using a tapered ball nose bit? If so, That’s not really the ideal bit for that type of carving. Something like a 60 degree V but I think would be better.
I was using a tapered ball nose. I’m going to try it for the finish with a Vbit. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah I plan on doing some drawer front on the CNC with some designs on them but that’s just me being extra and wanting to practice.
Couple tips, try sanding your wood first, adding a sanding sealer or grain filler will help with the grain soaking in the paint, or you can sand then mask the wood with Oramask, then paint. Lastly, it looks like your speeds and feeds are pretty slow, you could run that MUCH faster since youre not going that deep.
Thank for all the tips. Yeah I’m definitely being conservative on my feeds and speeds. I will definitely do the sanding and mask next time.
Wondering why you needed two layers of mdf. Can’t you drop the router down lower ?
Yeah that was what I originally tried. The router body limits how low the router will go and the bits I have are only on average a 1 inch cut depth. I think with a spindle that has a full smooth body I could reach but not the router.

I'm curious...I noticed that you didn't remove the stiffy bearing block and bolt it to the center rail bearing block before assembly. Is this intentional? Or did I miss something in the video? I'm expecting my machine soon and watching all the assembly videos I can find so mine will hopefully go smoothly.
Sorry I forgot to get that on film. I was quite frustrated at that point of the video because they assembled the stiffy rail and my guide block opposite (If that make since). But yes, I did disassemble the stiffy rail and bolt on the guide block from the inside of the assembly. Now that I'm typing it out and thinking about it, they might assemble it backwards to ensure you actually install it correctly. This could be one of those things that people first started doing it wrong, so this was their best first fix. Make everyone have to do and hour of research prior to bolting it together so you don't do it incorrectly. But good catch on my video. Sorry I wasn't very thorough. I chose this one because they say it was the easiest to set up, but things aren't always what they seem to be. Feel free to ask any questions when yours comes in and I'd be happy to help.

Hi, I got the foreman too with a water cooled spindle, I bought the PWN spindle before they came out with the automatic tool changer. Now if I want the tool changer it costs an other $2000 - $3000. So think about it if your going to change to a spindle and will eventually want a tool changer make sure you don’t waist your money like I did.
That’s awesome. I will definitely consider that. I haven’t made up my mind yet but was looking at the PWN spindles as well. I do appreciate the advice. Hope you are enjoying your Onefinity as much as I do.
You could always sell your spindle and VFD. They hold their value quite well and you'll recoup some of the outlay towards the ATC.

It’s crazy, I’ve had an idea for a tattoo that may be a better plaque!? It’s a USMC/NAVY flag. Starts as a navy flag, and as it ripples in the middle it finishes as a USMC flag?! I have no idea if it’s possible!! 😂 But if it was, you’d be the guy to pull it off! Much respect brother!
You will never find more meaningful and personal and also in support of each other and a ton of pranks and good laughs than Larry! Military life is hard, but our plaques and going away honors show how much we love and appreciation we have for each other and also how much fun it really is being in. I need a coin display! How much and when might you have time brother! Love this channel! Reminds me of the garage on base all those years ago!! BB racks, surfboard stands, speaker boxes!! 😂 one day we may even get that portable tiki bar built!!

I am actually looking at this and the xcarve pro. I keep leaning more towards this one, mainly because the hmi is like an actual cnc control. Being a cnc programmer in my day job, the look and feel of that control is more familiar to me. Keep us updated on your thoughts with this machine!
Yeah this is the first CNC I have ever worked on let alone owned and having the big display helps me understand more of how it work. The other types of systems that are just plug and go seem a little too detached to me. I wanted something I can watch learn and interact with while it operating. That way I get a better understanding of the function. It a little overwhelming for me as a beginner/novice but I am picking it up. I’ll do a few “Ah that’s how it works” videos of the controller.

That is awesome to hear. Are you also getting the Elite Forman 48x48? Anyways my table is 68 deep and 72 wide. That gave me a nice boarder around the front, left and right side.

I love how you think critically about challenges. And you aren't afraid to try out an idea.
Nice job. A couple of things I would like to mention. I know your just not laying out your cabinets but when it gets Tim to do a final layout, try not to have everything so far apart. Ideally the miter station should be closest to where you will be bringing in materials. The tablesaw should also be close by for the second step in breakdown- mitersaw being one. It will get old very quickly having to walk across your basement to get to the drill press. Also, when doing voice overs, try not to sound so bored,lol. Your audience will too. Your boys are adorable and you should leave them in your videos. Of course if it is something that requires concentration, I would emphasis how important that your not distracted like using powertools. I was taught at ten woodworking skills from my grampa. I spent most of every visit in his shop with him since I could walk. Loved that man. It will be fun teaching those boys what you know. Best of luck with the new channel.
Sub #71... I'm very close to building a similar setup. I bought a new sliding miter saw and I have two radial arm saws I want to incorporate into the build. A router table will be somewhere in the mix. Thanks for your ideas that will be very useful!!!
Use some granite lube or some other non-sticky grease on your saw.
Yeah I need to figure something out to make the material slide better. Appreciate the advice.
How did you size the platform for the miter saw?
I measured out the base at first and then sized it of the slide from front to back. The one part I didn’t think about was the swing of the sliding rail.
How deep is the top. I have a problem getting my dewalt miter saw hitting the wall unless I make the top very deep becuaee of its slide .
My cabinets are only 24 inches wide but I made the top 36 so that I could set some upper cabinet back far enough later on to accommodate my saw and a fixed fence.

Modify the two corners on either side of the miter saw to be angles then your saw can go to 45 degrees on either side.
Yeah I was thinking about that as an option. The front has plenty of room but the rails in the back are the main problem. But I appreciate the input and I think I will probably try that until I get a new miter saw.
@@knotaproblem625 I had the same problem with mine. I wound up just pulling it forward so it could swing both ways.
Look into the Mikita like of miter saws. Excellent dust collection and the arms are set forward unlike your Rigid.
