Which Sight & Sound Level is Right For You?
I get a lot of questions about the different Sight & Sound levels. A Gentle Feast offers three different levels in our reading program. 100 Gentle Lessons in Letters and Sounds -Level 0, 100 Gentle Lessons in Sight & Sound -Level 1, 100 Gentle Lessons in Sight & Sound -Level 2. Teaching your child to read doesn't have to be difficult!
Phonics rules and nonsense words don’t capture a child’s imagination … therefore, that child isn’t motivated to read. Instead, Charlotte Mason used nursery rhymes (which children love) to teach sight and sound lessons that are short, sweet, and engaging.
You want your child to love reading.
But reading curriculums seem to have a million pieces and take over 30 minutes to complete each day. 68% of America’s fourth graders read at a below-proficient level. Fortunately, there’s another way to teach reading!
100 Gentle Lessons is different. Do you want your child to love reading? Check out A Gentle Feast's Sight & Sound products at agentlefeast.com/new-shop/?wpf=wc_sidebar&wpf_cols=4&wpf_cat=beginning-reader

Hi! Question on form 2 dictation…. Does the teacher book or the schedule tell us what passage we need to read to them for which day? Or is it always whatever passage is that week? I really want to do this curriculum but feeling overwhelmed because I don’t have a teaching background

I enjoyed the content here but i almost wish I could hear someone's opinion on good consequences for when they are resisting school. I know she said you can get creative and administer loving consequences but I just dont know what to do that wouldn't be too harsh or too unrelated to the problem. My 7 yr old comes to school every say with a bad attitude initially but then will do the work after a struggle. I've tried setting up rewards for doing well, time outs..... nothing has changed what is going on. :( I do need to try prayer and ask God to show me what will work because I'm at a loss. To be clear, we homeschool using A Gentle Feast and it's not those subjects he throws a fit for. Just reading and math, which *feel to him like an interruption of play time. The other subjects we do over a meal.

Inner critic lives "to keep me safe." This is interesting. I am familiar with having to fight the half- truths of the enemy. This however, is a new approach to me. I am critical and fault-finding of myself....fascinating statistic the 85% of our myriad thoughts per day are negative. Thank you for the practical ideas to hold a self-critical thought to ask if it is serving me. I long to show up for my children with a full cup...I think I will try this. Thank you, Julie!

How would you suggest asking for help? I find that to ask for help, I need to know what I need and show what needs to be done. When I do ask for help, I feel flooded and stressed out by extra people or stuff going on and so I usually feel like it's too much and just don't ask.

This was so helpful in deciding the direction of our homeschool. I've felt God calling me to simplify. I'm burnt out and going into our 5th year of homeschooling. This year I will have a 10th, 5th, 1st and two littles that are 4 and almost 3 years old. I don't ever plan on throwing in the towel on this lifestyle, so staying burnt out just isn't an option! A change is necessary! Thank you, Julie, for creating and sharing A Gentle Feast.

We read Heidi within this last year, too. One of my unexpected takeaways was that it's perfectly fine for lunch to be based around wholesome bread and fresh cheese, lol. I remember being in college, and one of my friends and I would often get a small bag of rolls (typically whole wheat) and a package of sliced provolone cheese and split them between us for lunch. Sometimes we'd have some juice, sometimes just water, to wash it down. As a mama now, I can't help but think, "Put some grapes or an apple in with it!" 😄 Sometimes we did, sometimes just bread and cheese, but we didn't feel deprived. As I was reading Heidi with the kids, I couldn't help but think of the pressure we sometimes feel to make big, elaborate meals, and while we do need to meet the children's needs for nutrients and calories, that doesn't mean every meal has to be fancy. Paraphrasing from Laura Ingalls Wilder, sometimes, the simple things really are the best.

Thank you so much for these high school series. I'm new to the CMM & had concerns about using this method in a few years when my daughter enters high school. This really answered a lot of questions I had. My husband & I talked as we planned our current homeschool year of what our goals were for our daughter of being prepared for life 1st & college if she desires. Love how you shared multiple times that CMM is preparing a child for life. Thank you again for this series!!

Wow. This is helpful. I was expecting this to be for just homeschooling, but what you said about the smoking group, that got to me. I have COPD and I just had pneumonia on top of that, which I now HAVE to stop smoking for health reasons. But when you said one group said, "No thank you, I'm not a smoker", that turned on the light bulb for me. I am one who says "I'm trying to quit", instead of saying "I don't smoke". I wasn't expecting this. Thank you!
