Its not necessary for in case the first officer is incapacitated. The Airbus sidestick makes inputs algebraically so if CM1 makes a full aft position on the stick and CM2 makes a full forward inout on the stick, then the flight control position will be neutral. If for whatever reason either crew member wants to override that, simply holding down that red takeover button will do so, and trigger the aural warning like in this video. The red button is more commonly used to disconnect the autopilot

That was due to lack of crew resource management. Airbus has multiple ways to prevent such incidents from occurring such as aural warnings (dual input) and also the crew should be adequately trained to handle situations like this, where the captain can takeover and override any inputs made by the first officer (or vice-versa). This is well documented in the FCOM. Boeing on the other hand did not train pilots not inform them of the MCAS software, which wasn’t even documented in the FCOM or any other necessary operating manuals until when the media got involved. Keep in mind that I’m not biased towards Airbus or Boeing, this is factual information which I think both companies should have acted better upon

Additionally, I wouldn’t say that similar things couldn’t ever happen on Boeing. An incident involving an Air France 777 in 2022 where the captain was reportedly struggling to gain control of the aircraft was due to both pilots trying to control the aircraft with the same mechanically-linked control wheel/yoke. It’s a very similar concept except I believe it’s easier to identify than a sidestick that is not mechanically linked
