Hi, I'm Ron, and I create offroad ATV UTV trail riding, as well as tractor and snow plowing video content, mostly around Northern Wisconsin. I am a fan of BMW Motorcycles, Arctic Cat ATV, UTV, and Snowmobiles, Husaberg Motorcycles, and Timbersled Snowbikes. That said, I enjoy many other brands of machines, and frequently discuss what I like and don't like about past, present, and future models.
If you see any riding locations featured in my videos that you think you might enjoy, check down in my description box. I will usually post a shareable Google Drive link for a GPX file featuring the track I rode in the video, as well as important markers along the way!
Thanks for looking. I'll see you out there!

We just purchased property outside of Minocqua and really enjoy your vids. Can't wait to get up there for good.
Congrats Matt! Lots of different areas that all interconnect around here these days! I have to get on with highlighting more of them, haha. When are you planning to make your move? Thanks a lot for watching and commenting!
@ROCKINRODNEY Planning to start building in the spring. 🤞
@@ROCKINRODNEY My wife and I both grew up on farms in Iowa and ended up in Chicago with our degrees. You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy.
That's awesome!
Glad to hear you found your way out of the big city! There are certainly things I enjoy about city life, but I do miss the connection with nature that you get being out in the middle of nowhere like here. I don't think I could live in a city any longer after COVID. Wausau would probably be about as big as I'd go.
Where did you go to get your license for your utv if you don't mind me asking.
Hi. This isn't a real Wisconsin license plate in case you weren't aware of this. The plate I have on this machine came with it when I purchased it in 2018.the UTV registration number the dnr assigns a at or UTV stays with the machine. So the plate was left on it. I believe you can find these plates online. If you search Etsy you can find them in actual metal. Hope this helps friend. Thanks alot for watching and commenting!
Wow that worked really good.
Yeah I was surprised by how effective this product is. I recommend trying it out. Especially if your situation is like mine here, and you have nothing to lose by trying to repair a basically unusable windshield. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Good day, do you where I can take a test for general technician radio use (baofeng) in the Hayward area?
Hello. I'm not familiar with the clubs in the Hayward area so I can't help you there. Sorry. Over here, Vilas County Amateur Radio Club does a few weekend class test sessions throughout the year, and the Merrill Amateur Radio Group will do tests ahead of their club meetings.
Outstanding Video! Thank you
You're welcome Stewart. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment on my video!
Do they get hot enough to melt snow off the lenses?
Hi Aaron. Yes they do. I've had these on the truck for 5 seasons now, and even at -20F I've never had trouble with snow building up on the lens. For this season I'll be running @diodedynamics SS3 sports in my fog position and a couple of sets on my tractor. Because of your question, I'll do a video this winter (assuming we have winter this year 😀) testing out what temps these lights operate at in cold temperatures while plowing snow. So I hope you'll come back and stay tuned for that video. Thanks for watching and commenting Aaron!
@ROCKINRODNEY would definitely be a good video! I got caught in a blizzard and headlights got covered in Ice and visibility/ lightning was almost 0. I put baja designs XL linkables on my truck in hopes they wouldn't build up ice and snow in case it happened again! Thank you for replying!
@aaronponce13 you're welcome! I think they will make a huge difference for you. Couple of years ago I was in a blizzard between Wausau and Minocqua, WI, and if it wasn't for these lights I couldn't have seen anything. It wasn't so much being able to see straight ahead as it was being able to tell where the ditches were. A couple of weeks ago I added a set of amber Diode Dynamics SS3 sport fog lights on my truck, so I'll be able to get an idea of temperature differences between the two.
@ROCKINRODNEY Iwas driving back to Houston Texas from Colorado and it was about 4 hours of 10mph and hoping i didnt run it off the road or into a ditch with almost 0 visibility at night. Once snow hits definitely would be a good video which of the 2 melt snow!
@aaronponce13 yeah for sure! I'm not sure how they'd do in an extreme ice storm, but that 2 ft of snow we received in 24 hrs a couple of years ago didn't build up on these lights, and it was wet like concrete. This has been my fifth season I believe with them on the truck and I've never seen snow stick to them. I'll get some comparison info between the Baja designs and Diode Dynamics this winter.
👍👍👍

Thanks Jeff. My lady and I had a baby in June, so time has been in short supply, haha. I have a few edits that are in the works though, so surely one of them will get completed and released in the not-too-distant future I hope! That and I'm looking at getting Gunner out for some nice fall rides. Poor guy hasn't been out at all this year. Thanks a lot for watching!
Never had any issues with my BMW 650 like yours. I put street tires on it and was able to keep up with the 1200GS's on roads with a lot of curves. And I've passed slow moving Harley riders with no problem to get away from their loud pipes or applying their brakes at every curve they came to. And once when I was riding with a friend and his wife who was just learning to ride, I got 70 MPG!!! I only had two complaints, the oil and filter changes are a little more of a hassle than most bikes, and it sounds kind of like a weed eater when you're riding it. But I had no issues with it at all. I only kept it for a couple of years and purchased a R1200 RT. I LOVED THAT BIKE!! Handle like a dream and if you ever got stuck behind a slow poke, or a three-mile line of Harley riders, no problem to get around them. I didn't listen to all this video because I was not interested in the accessories, I just wanted to know if it held up well.
Hi Ron. Yeah the 650 is a nice little bike. And I agree the oil changes are a not as user friendly as it probably should be. And I agree, the exhaust note isn't very impressive either haha. What amazes me is that despite the popularity of the bike, there aren't a lot of exhaust options for it. The aftermarket options I've seen were all around 102 db, which is way above usfs restrictions. The 1200s are a cool engine. I love those things. Thanks a lot for checking out my video and dropping a comment! Happy riding!
A nice honest guy
Thanks alot for watching and commenting. Happy riding!
I have a 2003; the fact that BMW still hadn’t put a gas gauge indicator on this bike 6 years later blows my mind. That’s my biggest issue with the bike, the fact that I don’t know when I’m low on gas until the light comes on.
Yeah the only time you really know how much fuel you have is when you fill it up. That and when the fuel light comes on. Besides that one, there are a surprising number of quirks that were never addressed during all of the years this model was offered. Thanks alot for watching and commenting!
Agree that it would be nice to have but I just use my trip meter as a fairly accurate estimate. Once you've owned the bike for a while, you know what the high and low mileage per tank is and you should have a rough idea of how hard you're riding it.
@sociopathmercenary that's also how I keep track of my mileage. Especially with powersport toys, I seldom find the gauges to be very good at articulating what you have left until basically the last bar. The fuel tanks are always weird shapes. And the light on the BMW gives you plenty of notice I think. Thanks alot for watching and commenting!
Mine is a 2015 and still doesn't have a gauge 😂
Yeah. When they sip fuel like the 650 does, seems like it doesn't need a fuel gauge, haha.
Looks grousey !!
Hi Richard. Yeah I'm sure there are a few of them out there, haha! Thanks a lot for watching and commenting.
Blame your county board first. The vilas county board could legalize them on all county roads. Legal in arbor vitae but not boulder junction...etc. That doesn't work. Truth be told we should be like all the states out west. All roads except the freeway are legal. Simplify it. Less laws the better.
Hi. I personally like your idea of simplifying. This is one of the reasons I have enjoyed riding out in SD. That would have to be done at the state level, and I think WI is a rural enough state that I don't think it would be a problem. Now the Vilas County board discussion... I go back-and-forth on my own thoughts when it comes to what I would do if I were in this position. My personal feeling is, I'd like to see more county-by-county uniformity, and the majority of counties around us have opened up most of their county highways. The problem is, this doesn't do anything for getting the town roads opened up in a town like Boulder Junction, and the state controls all of the forest around that area so we can't legally access the area trails either. Until there is a change in local leadership in Boulder, which requires someone to actually run against the town chair, I don't see any rapid changes on the horizon. And I really don't want to just ride county M. The next issue we have is Lac Du Flambeau and the tribe. They don't currently want it. At the request of the town, the county did open F many years ago, around 2014 I believe. The tribe brought in the BIA who threatened to not just wreak havoc over Vilas County riding opportunities, but also the surrounding counties naming disruption to ATV use in Iron county specifically. Not sure how they do this, but if I had to guess, it would probably be based on water rights. So it was retracted. Following that the tribe banned ATV use by their own people on tribal lands. So things went backwards there. For me, the more interesting Vilas town right now is Plum Lake. It recently held a referendum that showed solid support for ATV use in the town. So something positive should happen there. This will create some excellent connectors to St. Germain, Arbor Vitae, and Conover, and I hope opens some of the excellent state forest roads in the Star Lake area. This area is the more interesting piece of the Vilas puzzle than Boulder Junction. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting!
How much of the trip was actual trail vs side and county roads?
Hi Gideon. A lot of this ride is a mix of asphalt road between Arbor Vitae and St. Germain, and then dirt Vilas County forest roads between St. Germain and Eagle River. The area clubs are working with WI DNR to get more trails open between these locations, but it is definitely slow to come to fruition. Let me know if I can help with more info. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting!
So great with a new trail, good job from them
They are doing a great job. I hope the momentum for trail creation keeps going. Plenty more opportunities out there yet. Thanks for watching buddy!
Great that the club works to open new trails.
Yessir! They're all doing a great job. Happy 4th Jon!
Corkey is the best.
Yeah he is. He's getting the job done for sure. Thanks a lot for watching! Happy 4th of July!
@@ROCKINRODNEY Of course I watched it. I live on Wihega Road
Excellent. Hopefully more of the state forest trails in that area will open up to us. I'm hoping this is the first of many more miles.
👍👍👍
Hi Doc! Thanks for watching buddy, and have a happy 4th of July!
Hi. I've got the exact same machine as you. I also happen to live in Iron River MI, and we also have a house in Land O' Lakes WI, not too far from you! I know Minocqua well, and a good family friend owns the Island Cafe there. I also use my machine for snow, but I do traveling emergency snow removal. For example, in the last few years, we've gone to Denver, Cleveland, Buffalo, Albany, Boston and several other places to help with snow removal on big storms.
Hi Jeff! That's awesome sir! Did you buy yours from Ryan in Kingsford, MI? I subbed to your channel and I'll be working through your videos. In the meantime, how are you liking your RX so far? I spend quite a bit of time around Land o Lakes. I help Landover ATV Club groom the ATV trails during the summer, and have documented alot of riding in that part of the county. I live streamed myself plowing in the truck 2 years ago just for something to do, and was surprised by the amount of interest I had. So last year I decided to add snow removal to my channel during my "off-season". I'm very curious to hear more about what you do! So you take your RX and storm chase and clear snow? Are you using a pusher? Blade? Inverted blower? It's funny that you mention that, because I was talking with some friends in Milwaukee this past winter ahead of their big snowstorms, and said that I should set up shop at their place and plow since we weren't getting snow up here. I was half serious, but wasn't sure how I'd set up and advertise that sort of thing. I'm glad you found my channel and chose to comment! I hope you'll come back and chat some more because I have many questions bouncing around and I enjoy learning from the experience of others. It would be a real treat to hear more about your setup and how you came to do this. In the meantime I'll catch you over on your channel!
@@ROCKINRODNEY Ironically, I DID buy from Ryan in Kingsford! I almost bought a TYM in Lando, but due to Ryan's persistence, I ended up with a Kioti! Yes, I do emergency snow removal for three different companies. I used to live in IL, and subcontracted through one for years. Then when I moved up here three years ago, I stopped doing snow removal full-time, because nobody salts up here, and that's where I actually profited the most, was in the salting after plowing. Long story, but yes, in the last three years I've been to Denver, Cheyenne, Cleveland, Buffalo, Albany, Boston, Chicago, and a few other cities that I forget at the moment. On the tractor I use an 8' push box and a snow/material bucket, depending on the snow when we arrive. If you decide to travel for snow, and subcontract, you'll be required to get a GL insurance policy as well as commercial auto policy if you use your truck as well. If you are leaning towards getting into it, I can definitely point you in the right direction if you'd like some help.
@JeffGeorgalas I bought a 6' Titan Implement box blade from Ryan 2 winters ago. He and I wound up talking about Kioti tractors many times after that. He ultimately recommended I deal with Swiderski because they're considerably closer to me. He was certainly very informative and I appreciated all of his help. I would have bought an 8 ft box blade from him this past fall if he'd have had one. That's such a cool thing Jeff! I'm definitely interested in knowing more, as well as picking your brain around other snow removal related things. What are you running for a pusher? If I do buy one, Boss is my front runner. I was going to buy one last year, but decided to try this Hiniker scoop plow instead. So far I really like the Hiniker.
@@ROCKINRODNEY Boss makes a good push box. Very durable. But if you do go to a push box, I'd absolutely recommend one with a trip edge, not a rubber cutting edge. ESPECIALLY on a tractor. People don't realize how easy tractor loader arms are to tweak. In my opinion, Metal Pless and Arctic will give the best/cleanest scrape, reducing salt usage. They're also the most expensive. I use Boss V truck blades.
@@JeffGeorgalas this Hiniker has been my first experience with trip edges. So far I really like them. I feel like it's easier on our asphalt and where I catch turf. I also have Boss V plows for my truck, and those things will trash turf quick if you let them. Which pusher are you using? I like the Arctic. We have so much gravel parking lots and driveways up here I am not sure how they'd work on those. I'm subbed to a guy up I'm Maine who uses them occasionally on his Kubota M instead of his skidsteers when it's really deep, but says he hates it and needs an external cam to identify when the Arctic is correctly aligned on the tractor.
Plan on getting a 2009 BMW G650gs in two days. Its $3000 and comes with aux led lights,4 of the extra containers and some other aftermarket parts. Only issue is that it has several cosmetic scratchs from when it was in a minor crash 3 years ago. Current owner says it runs great but I'm still iffy on it.
Congrats! That sounds like an excellent deal. Hopefully it's all good mechanically. Scratches aren't the end of the world. I have a few of them on mine as well. Any plans for additional mods? Thanks for watching and commenting?
Its crazy that ypu would saybthat about western nc roads i live outside of Asheville and am looking to get a 2013 in a few weeks
Hi Leonard. It's interesting coming from northern WI and riding around down there. I float around the Bakersville area. The footage I used in my commentary was in the Lake James area. I was down there again this past fall for the first time in a long time, and I was surprised to see that many of those roads down there have reduced their speed limits. Still love it down there. Lots of fun, crazy roads. I'd like to put together a UTV to wander around down there someday. Congrats on your new bike! Are you picking it up from Eurosport of Asheville?

You're most welcome. Hopefully I gave you some ideas on where to start when it comes to mods. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I just put a deposit down on an f650gs…. Excited to ride again for the first time in 17 years!!!
I'm all ears , haha. That's awesome! Congrats on your new ride, and welcome back to the two-wheeled world. Do you have any trips planned yet?
Your G is an F650GS that was built in Brasil after the official end of the original F in 2009. It's got the new beak but everything else is still F650GS. The later G650GS that was built in Berlin has different plastic body parts and for sure some more differences. Not sure about the engine in yours, haven't watched the whole video yet. The original F's engine was built in Austria by Rotax whereas the one in the G came from Loncin in China.
Hello Bjorn. That's a really interesting. I had no idea the initial G bikes were built in Brazil. I have seen that some of the parts still have F650GS stamped on the parts. My engine is built in Loncin. The other day I learned that CF Moto builds motors for KTM. I had no idea. Figured Rotax built all of their motors still. Thanks a lot for teaching me something new, and for watching and commenting friend!
In a video you posted, you mentioned that you GPS your tracks. I'm new to utv riding in Wisconsin and not really familiar with the trail systems. Do you share your tracks that someone could use as a map sort of speak. Thanks
Hi Scott. I do try to save my tracks and upload them for others to follow. You can find a link to all I have posted so far here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/17_JtvgYjfGbbi-TLx6u-ZuLWV5BqZyln It shouldn't, but let me know if it gives you trouble. I recently made the entire folder shareable instead of just the individual tracks. Are you familiar with Garmin Basecamp or a different program that will let you check out these tracks? I do need to update around Land O' Lakes as some of the trails have changed up there recently. When I can get a run up there I'll adjust the path of travel. Until then keep an eye on the signage when you get close to county B, if you head up there. Let me know if you have any questions, or need help with software, and I'll try my best to help out. Thank you so much for watching, commenting, and subscribing!

Fun to watch😳
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed my video.
Great video. You earned a sub. Come on 1k.
Thank you so much for that, and commenting and watching as well! Happy riding!
Love your video! I just subscribed. I'd love to request a video of you and Gunner traveling out on County Road C and turn off onto Camp Byrne Afon Road. I've vacationed there for many many years but haven't for several years now. I'd love to see Sunset Lake on Camp Byrne Afon Road again ❤️
Hi Dennis! Thank you so much for subbing! I'll have to do a little digging to make sure all the roads out that way are open, but I'll see what I can do sir. Did you used to vacation there with your family?
Starting the year in Chippewa County.
Sounds like a good plan to me! Have a great ride Scott!
These Northern Wisconsin trails are open for your riding pleasure: th-cam.com/video/Y2lN17Lwvgc/w-d-xo.html
If I’m staying at Days Inn in Eagle River, can I ride from there and hook up to the trail on Crocker/Deep Lake Rd. ?
Yes you can. Are you familiar with the area? You can pick up a Landover ATV Club map at the Circle K just north of the hotel.
I’m not familiar with the area. Looking for some other trails to ride. Thanks for the info.
@ChrisVenske you're welcome. If you have a gps or use a program like Garmin Basecamp on your PC I can share some of my tracks with you to give you an idea of how to get around.
@@ROCKINRODNEY the only gps that I have is the Polaris Ride Command
@ChrisVenske OK. I don't have a whole lot posted on Ride Command to help you out in the area unfortunately. I should post some more on there.
Hope to see you out there this season. If time allows, I will ride from Eagle River to Land O' Lakes and Conover this weekend.
Hi Jeremy! I should be getting some riding in this season. Maybe I'll catch up with you out there, haha. Have a good time out there this weekend. Sunday looks like it will be gorgeous! And if you feel like joining us, I'm sure @LandoverATVUTVClub will be planning club rides again this season. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting sir!
👍👍👍
Thanks a lot for watching Doc!
What are some good trails around eagle river and Conover?
Hi Chris. I'd say I prefer the trail off of Croker/Deep Lake Rd that runs up to Buckatabon Creek to get between Eagle River and Conover. In Conover, I really enjoy taking trail 13 from TIN 713 up to Heart Lake Rd, taking a right onto Heart Lake Road, and following it till the trail splits off again to the right, and riding that until you get to the Runnels/45 intersection. Actually, it's the ride I took in this video, you'll find the gps track in the description: th-cam.com/video/U5q50dqn3Ws/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4-a9_6BK9EtMnJT5 From Old 45, take a left onto Fire Lane and ride that till you get to Blong, then take a right onto Blong and ride that into Phelps. I think that's a pretty ride.
Riding in Conover ❤
Heck yeah! You going for a ride in Conover area this weekend?
1:24 must look really nice in autumn, same with the pond at 4:19 I like that place, looks like a great trail
Yeah I'll bet it does also. I need to try and get more fall rides in around here.
You just roll by Sunrise lodge and don't score any of the all-you-can-eat french toast?
Hi Matt. These rides were pre-planned with Landover business sponsors throughout the various towns. This particular video is the first 15 miles of our 100 mile ride. We went to The Alley in Land O' Lakes because I believe there was something going on over there in support of the Frosty Snowmobile Club. I actually did a Landover Club and sponsors video here: th-cam.com/video/Rj0qZG78Xjc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pZHTtbza2q8ZkTAc That said maybe one of these days we'll have to make a trip over there for some French toast! Thank you very much for watching and commenting sir!

Gunner is the world's luckiest pooch.
Thank you! He's a good dog and my best bud. So much of the fun in taking these rides is because I get to bring him along.
Catching up on videos this morning.. lol.. 👍👍
Lol Doc! Thanks a lot for checking out my videos sir!
I would still love to rip these trails on the 3-wheeler... But you guys might run me off.. lol.. 👍👍👍
You ever decide to make the road trip up here Doc, you let me know. 3 wheeler action would be a good time!
👍👍👍
Thanks a lot Doc!
