    Christianity itself already is cosmic horror. An all powerful, unknowable and intangible being, despite hating sin created a universe in which it would arise anyway just so he can punish people eternally for it. If that isn't horror what is?

    • @ChristianNerdsUnite
      @ChristianNerdsUnite ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting take. I would not agree with unknowable, or that He created it so he can punish people. But that is a longer conversation than the comment section is good for.

    • @ancientflames
      @ancientflames ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChristianNerdsUnite I think the idea can get across fairly quickly. if he hates sin and wants nothing to do with it then creates a universe he knows will be sinful, he either isn’t all powerful to fulfill his desires, or his desire IS for sin to exist and therefore the punishment for all those who commit it. Not to mention the greater issue. If God is perfect, ALL, complete etc. what does he gain from creating anything? How can an all perfect being even have wants or desires to create in the first place? To have a want or desire is to be incomplete. If I replace Yahweh in the Bible with Cthulhu, changed a few names of people and locations it would read a pretty decent horror story in some sections. Summons fire from heaven to burn men to ashes, opens the earth to swallow thousands, sends plagues of flies, boils, darkness and death, drowns the planet is water and darkness. Many many awesome examples for good cosmic horror 😅.

    In a certain sense Christianity essentially acknowledges some fundaments of cosmic horror, at least if one views the agency and vastly negative potentiality of Satan as fitting whatever definition of cosmic horror we happen to decide on. The main issue is that Satan is also not ultimately triumphant, whereas many would insist that cosmic horror inherently depends on the horror stemming from the perception that the evil antagonist is so powerful that its triumph is inevitable.

    • @ChristianNerdsUnite
      @ChristianNerdsUnite ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree and I think Cal would as well. In his book the ultimate victory will be God.

    • @CalJameson
      @CalJameson ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with most of what you said, but I don't think inevitable victory is a necessary feature when we're talking about cosmic horror. Ironically, I think it's the "otherness," (on the good side, we say "holiness") of the entities within Lovecraftian fiction. These are beings so far outside our realm of understanding that to behold them is not only to fear them, but to be driven mad by the fear of what we have beheld. In the Bible, when people encounter angels who aren't trying to appear as human, the person falls on their face. It's a gut reaction to being faced with a being of such immense power, but there is inherent goodness in the holy angels mixed with the otherness and power that prevents the madness. However, imagine coming face to face with an angelic being that has let the light slip out. A being of unspeakable power and comprehensive evil. That would be cosmic horror. But to your point about inevitable victory, I think that element definitely elevates the horror. To the unbeliever who encounters God on Judgement Day...yeah, that's cosmic horror on another level. The God of Creation will be infinitely more horrifying than Nyarlathotep or Cthulhu, or even Azathoth to those who have chosen to reject His Son.

    • @lolaarbenz417
      @lolaarbenz417 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChristianNerdsUnite Indeed. I guess it's most accurate to say that Christianity is actually the opposite of cosmic horror, insomuch that it assures us that the author of the cosmic horror is already destined to be defeated and that the certainty of the ultimate outcome is the exact opposite of horror. Cosmic triumph, I guess. Anyway thanks for an interesting foray into this topic.

    • @lolaarbenz417
      @lolaarbenz417 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CalJameson I should admit that I've only read a bit of Lovecraft and mostly know it through reputation and reinterpretation so I wasn't familiar with any non-malevolent entities akin to angels or other divine entities in his works. So I do agree with your take on that now that I do know. And yes, I also agree that reality is indeed a sort of cosmic horror for the damned. I guess the main difference is that the cosmic horror that's depicted in a bit of Lovecraft and a lot of other media since is based on the idea of unjust, unordered, and universal cosmic horror, whereas reality is the opposite. Anyway it's perversely thrilling to briefly consider a fictional universe where there is no God, and the fallen world proceeds entirely within the context of a fallen world. It also helps us perhaps to appreciate that we live in this infinitely better reality where justice is ultimately done on Judgement Day whether anyone likes it or not.

    I am very happy that Chris Savino has taken a new path. I want to say something about Chris: I don't hate Chris Savino for what he's done terrible things in his past, I mean, I'm not a fan of his personality and his harassment. I just love his job so much that he's worked all over the animation industries. I also did not know that Chris has worked many series since our childhoods and those very impressive. When I was a kid, we know that we don't understand adult jokes that only adults know, because we were kids, and now that I'm a younger adult and I understand the jokes, and they give me a little bit of grace (although they don't make me laugh, I like them, as well as the other series with those adult jokes). I did not like much that cat comic about a cat child who wants to have a relationship with his cat mom (yes, I'm not a fan of that comic). Before I was no longer a fan of Nickelodeon because I did not have any series that catches my attention, it no longer has good series (except SpongeBob Squarepants that before I liked the first seasons that I loved when I was a child). But now with many seasons it is already very silly, crazy and absurd. And Cartoon Newtwork also no longer has good series, even if I like the company, now yes, Cartoon Network is no longer the same, without very good series. The Loud House is a great series, but, it is no longer the same and apart it is already somewhat boring and stop watching it (although I see it sometimes). For example: 1.- Chris Savino is no longer the Writer, Storyboard, Executive Producer and my favorite: "Direction". I love that the creators of their series participate in the 3 things that work on their series that write, draw and direct their series. 2.- The series got much worse, due to the new writers, new stories and new synopsis (although I do not know if I change it or it is the same) and the movie was worse (the songs and the story). 3.- For those who do not know. I am a Latin American, stop watching the series, because I do not like the Latin dubbing very much, the English is better because that series is made in the USA. And I like that because they are real voices and original actors. Just like The Casagrandes. I'm very grateful to that man, because I don't just like that show. If I don't also remind myself a lot in my family that I also have a big family, I'm similar between The Loud House and The Casagrandes. In conclusion: Chris must continue to learn and respect women, that he no longer flies to harass, that he no longer drinks alcohol. I am not a Christian, but I am a Catholic, I believe in God and Christ our lord and other gods that I cannot tell you is something personal. I hope he becomes a new man, a good human being. As well as my idol John Lasseter (who I also love so much his work at Pixar, Walt Disney and Skydance Animation). They are the only 2 animators that I love their work too much. And may God Almighty Bless Chris Savino, in his future, to return to the animation industry and return to normal. And I hope that in the future I will be able to meet him in person or online. God bless all of you who are watching my TH-cam comment. Thank you and Amen.

    As someone who as looked at both sides of the entertainment industry I've concluded that people don't play or watch a piece of media for the message, what people want when they play a video game is engaging gameplay and the message and be a byproduct of the writing if it's good. So what we should do is focus on making a good video game than just a Christian video game otherwise how are we to consider us better than the far left who pushes their ideology instead of creating quality content.
