What tricks do you use to be successful with your spearthrow and hit your mark?
Perfect form! The forward movement (a few steps) before spear release does the trick.
To nail my Spear, I literally need to take 1 step left of the target I am aiming for to stand a chance of hitting it lol

@UnderCover_300blk Definately not the same, different goals, and protecting your country is way more honorable than racing ;) stay safe !
Lauren here, what do you recommend in regards to miles vs time when it comes to winter running? I’ve heard most say for winter running you should switch to running for time instead of goal kms due to the slowed pace. I’m training for a 50km in April. If I have a scheduled day, 30k long run in January and there’s lots of snow on the ground, should I adjust to a set time instead of pushing for the 30k?
@MateoAGRoblox I do both during the winter. Set realistic distance goals and be ready to pivot in the event of bad weather. Either move the long run to a nicer day or change your long run for time on your feet. If you know you're running 30km in 2.5 hrs, convert it if poor conditions to running 2.5hrs and disregard distance. The best way to do this is to run an out and back but probably turn around 5-10 mins prior to midpoint because you will run slower in the second half. You don't want to run past 3 hrs unless you're going to do ultras. The risk of injury creeps up with not a lot of real benefits. Secondly, if you're doing a speed session / intervals, when the roads aren't clear instead of setting 800m or 1km or whatever your interval would be, set it for time, 3 mins hard 90 secs rest x 8 as an example. Consider doing some interval sessions on the treadmill, and it will measure your proper distance, and you can do distance or time. 60 secs hard, 30 secs EZ. For our purposes, you want to jack up your heart rate and get your body used to recovering quickly.
awesome thanks for all that great info. I’m probably going to stick to doing my weekly speed session/intervals on the treadmill but we’ll see what happens.
@MateoAGRoblox a quality speed session on the treadmill will beat a crappy outdoor speed session any day of the week
12-hour shift of hill climbs in sloppy wet snow for me. That's my building of mental reliance and physical training for now. A week in, and it's all ready paying off.

@yawwepiam8236 Thank you!!! Coming off Covid 3 weeks before that race, I was disappointed with the result. It was a morale killer. Thankfully, my two races on Sunday went well and boosted my morale, and the whole weekend boosted my fitness level, and I am more confident now heading to Sparta
Great video and excellent job. I ran my 1st ever this past sunday and im absolutely hooked 😂
@mikegilchrist6983 Thank you! The danger of running your first race is being hooked. Now, to plan your season for next year ;) Feel free to reach our if you have any questions.
@jonathanbouchard12426 will do man thanks!
Super impressive. I did my first ever race the same race that day and completed it in 1:07:07. I struggled going up the mountain as It took me 16/17 minutes to get up to the 4 foot wall. Any tips or suggestions for running up hill?
@trevorconlon6466 I recommend you need to train for specificity. To run uphill efficiently, you need to get your body used to it. Flat running doesn't translate well to hill running. Try incorporating Hill Sprints and slower long runs on very hilly terrain. I also like to walk on treadmill with 15-degree incline with ankle weights and weighed vest to get the legs stronger with the uphill.
Lauren here, I just enjoyed watching this and re-living the pain cave of Sunday 🤣 thanks for posting. Good luck in Greece!

Hey John, Lauren here (my son has taken over my TH-cam account). Firstly, thanks so much for posting this, super informative. I’m just getting into competitive Spartan racing this year. Any tips for training elevation when you don’t live near any ski hills? It’s been a challenge for me to find adequate elevation. I can drive 30 mins to get some nice “rolling hills” type trails with around 20-30m per km elevation, but no ski hills nearby or anything with long ascents. I do have some short steep hills nearby which work good for hill sprint intervals.
That's amazing. Competitive Spartan Races are great! You can really push yourself to the best of your ability. To train for hills in your cased you have some steady hills on the roads near where you live? During the winter months I can't use the ski hills for obvious reason, I will put a 10lbs weighed vest and run up and down the staircase in my house for a set period of time e.g 30 mins. Is it boring ? Yes! Is it effective? Yes. Make high incline treadmill, your best friend. Run at max incline start at 5-10 mins, my incline has a rolling hill program that's always an option. I like to be able to run 45 mins straight at max incline, and keep in mind the speed is slow, but I train to run longer without walking.
@@jonathanbouchard12426 awesome thanks for the tips. The staircase at home is definitely doable. I’ve also hacked my treadmill by adding a 4” wood block to elevate the front, so I can get it up to closer to 20% elevation now which I’ve been using to power walk/short sprints but wasn’t really sure how effective it was. I guess that will be my go to in winter :)
@MateoAGRoblox once it's not challenging enough, add ankle weights and a light weighed vest. The more we struggle with training, the easier race day will be!
Thanks you so much for the advices Jonathan! Really nice informative video. See you on the podium 🔥🔥🔥

I've never been able to do Olympus, even when they had the wood surface a few years ago. That new plastic surface on Olympus, the Box and Stairway to Sparta is so slippery! I don't even try that obstacle anymore. I go straight for the penalty loop so I don't waste too much time. I'm so happy that they got rid of those f'ing burpees! Minute 22 is Beater, not Bender. Haha! I've gotten them mixed up before. There was seriously a 10' wall?!! DANG! You made it look easy! Nice work! I love your attitude, your motivation, your willingness to give advice to others and for thanking the volunteers (I have volunteered many times and it is much appreciated). Much respect for you Ultra athletes. Beast is my max, but next month I'm doing the Utah Trifecta.
Thank you very much for your feedback ! Same here, Olympus is unfortunately a lost cause... even building one would prove pointless since it would be made of wood. These events couldn't happen if it weren't for all the volunteers, I definitely try to thank them all on the way. I used to think like you that an Ultra was crazy, but on just my second ultra I got 1st place in my AG, it ain't that bad with proper training. Keep racing, and don't be afraid to try an ultra!
Beast mode!
Thanks brother !
I did the same thing!
Your just like your daddy ;) that's why we need to run faster than other people to catch back up
I was looking for water too on that ultra loop!
