Guante & Big Cats: All Dressed Up, No Funeral (medley)
A lyric video medley of some favorite moments from the album. All animated by Medium Zach. The album itself is available now - Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, etc: guante.info/album.
A bit more background:
‘All Dressed Up, No Funeral’ is a concept album about the climate crisis. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bunch of songs about trees or the importance of recycling-decorated indie Hip Hop duo Guante & Big Cats have crafted a furious, laser-focused rebuke to doomsaying, “abandon your posts”-style cynicism. This is an album about how while it is naive to believe that victory is inevitable, it is equally naive to believe that victory is impossible. It’s about how collective action can be healing, how grief can be a superpower, and how hope can-and often must-have sharp edges.

Guante & Big Cats - Roguelike (Lyric Video)
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
A song about masculinity, collectivity, and who survives the end of the world. More info: guante.info/2023/06/17/roguelikesong/ In 2018, Minneapolis-based duo Guante & Big Cats released "War Balloons," an album of anthemic, explicitly political, sci-fi-tinged indie Hip Hop. To mark the five-year anniversary of that project (and its reintroduction to streaming services after being missing for a ...

Pre-order "Not a Lot of Reasons to Sing, but Enough" here: guante.info/enough At the end of October 2021, I went live via Button Poetry's Facebook page to preview my new book, as well as reveal the fantastic cover. Here's a recording of the hour-long virtual event, which features three new poems, lots of commentary on the process and spirit of the book, and the cover reveal itself. The book com...
Guante: "You Might Be An Authoritarian If..."
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
A kind of experimental piece: less a poem and more a parody of those old Jeff Foxworthy stand up routines... just about a very different topic. Find the full transcript, plus some framing notes and thoughts, at guante.info/2021/01/31/authoritarianism.

crazy good
Reminds me of Jet Set Radio and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, in a good way
I loved this moment! I was so stoked for you in the crowd!
Wtf is this
Huh? Sir this is a Wendy’s
someone show El-P this track fr
its crazy that this never blew up in the Atmosphere-Aesop Rock-type hiphop space. I only found this a couple weeks ago, and its immediately on par with like, Atmosphere's ""Became"
haha thanks. This comment actually prompted me to check the video and our link/info was out of date; I've fixed it, so thanks for that nudge. We actually got to perform this live a couple weeks ago at the release show to our *new* album (which is out now; it's called "all dressed up, no funeral"); just weird how time flies.
Personal favorite. Seen this man preform at in Duluth, College campus. He was giving lectures and teachin. Memories. Simple but impactful. Thank you man.
Incredible ❤
The Adjusters anthem
i fucking hollered
This album keeps getting better with every listen - quite possibly my favorite project of 2024...
00:60 Very nice.. 🔥🔥
This is 🔥🔥🔥
gOOD SHIZZZ. hIT ME, LETS POD...
Loving this
I love it!
The quick sample of, "when the night" hit got me. Fire.
My favorite song off the new album! Also glad Medium Zach added some art to the presentation...
Great subject matter... We Found You
This is one of the most impactful poems I’ve ever listened to. I have come back to this poem again and again over the years. Just thought you’d like to know. Sending love.
Me too
I told you that BLM was going to vanish fucking instantly when it wasn't an election season. It's been 4 years Guante. Do you see the Astroturfing? The dead internet theory? We are bound by banks and loans, a cascade of digital kickbacks and contracts. It doesn't matter what your sexuality or race stands for if you can't afford to live. We were led, separated from the economics to keep our eyes red with hate and division. Start small businesses, shop local, and build your communities.
This is superb!
One of my favorite albums of the year so far…
Speaking truth out here my guy. Big ups, lets keep fighting.
Going gut-punch for gut-punch with despair, but always end the round breathin air. I love ya man, keeping doing good work. Thank you for being inches wide, but miles deep.
I love what you've done with the title here. The in studio video is also really cool. I don't know if you follow the rapper Prof, but it reminds me of his live series "In Living Color". It would be cool to see you do something like that man. I always like your live stuff, the way you improv on the spot has really inspired how I approach lyricism.
Love that he’s been going all this time a lot of people disappear but not Guante
This is my favorite track off the new album. The entire project is such conscious vibe…
love this
This is why KTM is my favorite poet. This makes me feel hopeful and heard at the same time.
Guante has always been a favorite artist of mine. Hes an amazing lyricist and every time i hear his music i feel a burning in my heart
Killer work. Much love from MN.
Absolutely loved the wordplay in this. Found out about this cat thanks to his poem Ten Responses to the Phrase Man Up on Button Poetry, and he's still at it. Keep doing ya thang Guante, much love brother ❤
This is my favourite poem of yours, so I would say it is 'one of your better poems'. :) I really like listening to it. I think that it is very visceral.
whatever trailer this song gets into, i will play the hell out of that game
Got taken down from Spotify :(
I think the big cats remix of this song is still up there, though (and if I'm being honest, though I love this version too, the remix is my personal favorite)
Thought this was Avatar related
this song left a big impact on me i still regularly listen to it to this day
*NO stories told in a vacuum NO prophecy lighting our way There is just a lot of darkness to be afraid of So it's a good thing we are not afraid There is no superman in that phone booth There is no rewarding our faith There is no one who can save us So it's good thing we don't need to be saved! No starships in low earth orbit No aliens to save us from ourselves NO voice to speak for us So it's a good thing we know how to yell! No chosen one No destiny No such thing as magic There is no light at the end of this tunnel So it's a good thing we brought...matches! * Truer words have rarely been said. Well done.
“I am white paint. I can still feel the brush strokes on the roof of my mouth”
God this is so fucking good.
How are you not more famous?
I shared this song with my grandpa as my favorite song 5 years ago. I remember him telling me to shush when I tried to talk over it. Since then, he's had a stroke, and it feels like he's lost something. I've been grieving who he was, because I have no idea how to feel after all this.. but he wanted to listen to these lyrics because I put a value to them, and he wanted to understand me. Songs aren't what they are.. they're what you make of them. They transform into something with every listener.
that means a lot- thanks for sharing.
@@GUANTESOLO No, thank you. I lost my grandpa last weekend, but I still have this moment with him.
If anybody hears this song and isn't sure what the title means because you're not a gamer, a Roguelike is one which typically features permanent death, instead of the usual save system which lets you return to your place if you die. All you can do is make a whole new attempt at the entire game, try to learn from your past mistakes, and avoid the fate you met last time. I find that incredibly fitting.
Maybe it's all the excitement about the Avatar live action reboot bouncing around in my brain, but is this a Fire Nation reference? There is no light at the end of this tunnel, so it's a good thing we're our own matches...
