They’re looking for potential, rather than perfection for your entire academic career - particularly if there were extenuating circumstances or other contextual factors. Salam Alaikum, Bonjour, Guten Tag, Hola Elle!!! 😀 I just loved this video. Because you reviewed all 12 papers. But don't you think that the Oxford University Law degree should have a choice of an extra 2 optional papers? Because Roman Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Tort Law can be offered in Year 1. With Year 2, Contract Law, Land Law, Administrative Law, Trusts Law and Jurisprudence Law. ...and the final Year 3 papers being European Union Law and 4 optional papers. I would choose Taxation Law, Employment Law, Labour Law and Copyright, Trademarks and Allied Rights. Then I would certainly apply for BA Law at Oxford, but it is also true, Oxford have a much better choice of optional papers than Cambridge University. I might see you at St. John''s College in October 2028 if accepted?

    Heya! Bit of a basic question but what would you say is the best medium to take notes - paper/pen, a tablet or a laptop? Over my A-Levels I have been using my laptop and whilst it is great for organisation and taking notes quickly, I think my over-reliance on typing has made my in exam essay writing skills slow down (unfortunately, I am not eligible to use a laptop in exams). For uni study I am considering to move back to pen/paper or maybe a tablet (looking at the Remarkable 2 or Ipad + pencil atm). I feel that a tablet would help me speed up my writing skills but also keep everything organised. However they are an awful lot of money and if you think pen/paper with good organisation technique would suffice I would stick to that. Maybe using a tablet for step 1 and then paper/pen for step 2 (good opportunity to make some aesthetic notes I guess, although I wouldn't be surprised if you don't get time for that at Oxford!)

    • @elledoeslaw675
      @elledoeslaw675 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally type because then I can edit them down much easier, add things, reorganise and search for key terms. I know one person who used hand written notes throughout because they hated typing and another who started like that and gave up. I didn’t find the move to handwriting when doing exams too hard, I just did practice handwritten exam answers.

    The latest figures of the NHS from Nov 2021 indicate that young people who were referred to the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) in 2018 were now being seen for their first appointment and that the number of young people on the waiting list stands at over *5,300.* (ref. How long is the wait for a first appointment at GIDS?) The service is under very high levels of public and professional scrutiny as a function of the various legal procedures accurately described in this video and also the *Care Quality Commission's report of Jan 2021* which rated the service as *"Inadequate".* The service operates under a very detailed, comprehensive and lengthy *"Staged Model of Care".* Stage 1 - assessment and exploration. Stage 2 - a referral may then be made to an endocrinologist for hormone blockers. Stage 3 - cross-sex hormones may then be prescribed from age 16 after 12 months on hormone blockers alongside evidence of meaningful social activity (e.g. in education or employment) in the young person's preferred gender role. Stage 4 - surgical interventions may then be offered but these are not available to young people under 18. (ref. Puberty and physical intervention: GIDS) Given the length of time after referral before an eligible young person might receive a first appointment, the likelihood of that young person reaching the stage of being prescribed with hormone blockers before the age of 16 is extremely low. As an interesting point of comparison, it remains illegal for any young person under 18 to undergo a tattoo procedure, a process with arguably far less significant life changing implications than any invasive gender related interventions. Similarly, motor vehicle insurance companies have always levied very high premiums on any customer under the age of 25 based on what are well recognised to be their (sadly, in this context) statistically well-proven limited consequential and potentially life changing decision making abilities compared to older adults.

      @@zachsullivan3626 Heya! 28 is an excellent score and good enough for Oxford (the Oxford offer holder average is usually 27/28, according to FOI). I hope this doesn't sound blunt but it may have been your section B that impacted Oxford's decision. My advice would therefore be not to worry about your MCQ much when you re-apply, as your are clearly capable and naturally good at it. Just focus on your essay, and look at Oxford's essay marking to get an idea of what they are looking for (this can be found on an FOI request). I know a few people who got 30+ who were rejected because their essays were not what Oxford were looking for. Btw this doesn't mean you are 'bad' at essays, it just means you didn't put in the features that Oxford were looking for. I really think studying what they are looking for and writing practice essays with that in mind helped me with my essay section. Good luck you can do it!!

    Informative but children really can't consent. It has nothing to do with knowledge but they are simply not old enough to consent. An under 18 can have all the knowledge in the world about sex and the risks that comes with it but it would still be illegal simply because they would still not be old enough for sex as it should be.

    • @spalding1968
      @spalding1968 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mushroomgal9614 ok let’s play the “ what if “ game . Scenario 1. It’s the parents right and authority to decide whether to agree to any surgery or procedure , but as in everything in life , there may be exceptions like for example the child is in imminent risk of injury or death . So what should happen ? The health authority should make an application to the court setting out the evidence for the imminent serious risk and then a court should decide the matter as to whether or not the parental rights should be overruled in favour of the treatment . Scenario 2 suicidal teenager . If all other therapies , treatments are discussed and explored and the medical opinion is that ONLY antidepressants will help but the parents refuse . Make an application to the court as in scenario 1. It is not the same as gender dysphoria because puberty blockers are NOT. Antidepressants . They delay the onset of puberty but more importantly start a child down a path that is ideologically loaded ,that usually leads to surgical irreparable alterations further on and damage to perfectly healthy functional normal body parts . And all this to remedy a psychological condition loaded with incoherent ideology that often continues after the surgery . The issues about what boys and girls are and men and women are often continue unresolved years after surgery . Parents don’t make medical decisions for their children upon whims . Sadly this is the depth of thought that leads to legislation handing over adult parental decision giving power to immature , often psychologically distressed children . Neither should public policy on medical consent be based upon exceptions . In almost every case , parents have their child’s best interest at heart . And in those exceptions where they may not , the courts should be invoked . Messing with parental responsibility is a very dangerous game to play .

    • @spalding1968
      @spalding1968 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mushroomgal9614 ok let’s play . Scenario 1 . If any child is in immediate and imminent risk of serious injury or death then you don’t need either their consent or their parents consent or anyone else’s consent to act to to avert the “imminent and immediate death or injury . You just act and deal with the consequences after and a court will then decide if in fact your assessment was reasonable and proportionate . The risk lies with you . Psychological distress cannot meet that criteria because doctors can section someone that is at risk of harming themselves or others under various mental health acts . And that assessment to section still can be challenged by courts or tribunals . Your second scenario involves a medical opinion . You say this child can’t be helped with just therapy alone . Who says ? That’s a medical opinion . You also claim that the child’s mental health is suffering and the puberty blockers will help their mental distress . There is no circumstances where that medical opinion cannot be put to a court if the medical professionals believes that overriding the parents objection is necessary for the child’s mental health . There is no grounds to give doctors the power to prescribe drugs just because in their professional opinion they should . If you think laws should protect the most vulnerable , then who can be more vulnerable than a child in distress and a doctor prescribing drugs knowing the child is incapable of giving consent ( because they are a child ) ?? This is not rocket science . There have to be very strong reasons to override parental authority . In my view your scenarios don’t meet that standard . “Abusive parents” are the exception . They are not the norm . What you are doing is redefining “abusive parents “ with parents that disagree with their child’s notions of what’s best for them . The law HAS to start with the assumption that parents have their best interest at heart . The state don’t raise children , feed children or cloth children . The parents have that responsibility and they do not need a court order granting them that authority . It is theirs by definition as parents . I don’t know why you have inserted that the parents might act in their own best interest rather than their child’s . I don’t see how a parent can act in their own best interest concerning their child’s medical treatment . Unless the treatment is NOT medically necessary . I thought we were just talking about a difference in opinion of what the child’s best interest are ? You are suggesting supplanting the parent authority with a court appointed guardian at the outset ? Surely that should necessitate a court order anyway ? Court appointed Guardian’ are used usually when the parents cannot agree on what’s in the best interests of a child . Generally the state stays out of family decisions and that’s the way it should be . The state is rarely a better substitute parent or co parent . You are almost admitting that the child is incapable of giving consent to the medical treatment hence the need for a guardian. Bingo !! Just call the guardian parents . I know it’s a novel idea …. The only time the state should be involved in medical decisions about your child is when a court order is granted to involve them . The state is already ideologically pre disposed to the incoherent gender / transgender ideology . It’s a social experiment that we will understand the consequences in the years to come .

    Hi! I’m doing my LNAT soon and I’m just wondering about the actual logistics of taking the exam. So do we get a paper copy of the passages and questions to be able to highlight or is it all on the computer?

    • @elledoeslaw675
      @elledoeslaw675 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure it’s all on the computer. I didn’t have a printed copy, just a mini whiteboard to make notes on if I wanted to

    Can you go to the toilet during the exam? How would they count the time then? Can you have a rest between the MCQs and the essay?

    • @elledoeslaw675
      @elledoeslaw675 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You’ll have to check with the test centre because I can’t remember what the rules were when I sat the exam. I believe it’s like any other exam where if you go to the toilet, the time keeps running. I don’t believe there was an opportunity for a rest between the two sections unless you finished the MCQ section with time to spare. However, I do know adjustments can be made if it’s for accessibility reasons so if you’re concerned, I would contact the test centre and/or LNAT.

    With the reading list being so long + so many cases, how did you make condensed notes etc ? I try but there’s just so many cases ( some don’t even appear on the reading list, but just in the textbook) 😭

      Hey! I made an application specifically to Worcester but that was just because I’d had the opportunity to visit a few colleges and liked it. I wouldn’t recommend a specific application over an open or vice versa, it’s just personal choice 😊

    Trusts is so hard, how did you go about revising?

    • @elledoeslaw675
      @elledoeslaw675 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I condensed my notes and then just tried to plan lots of past problem questions and essays. It ended up being my highest scoring subject but I found it so so hard!! I really found just going back to basics important since I realised that actually I’d misunderstood some of the fundamentals and then once i had all of that straight the rest seemed easier!
