This is what beekeepers do in Texas in the summer. Or maybe I'm just getting ready for #NakedBeekeepingDay ?

Since I have access to a "pro" Zoom account, I helped to host the June 8 meeting for the Mightnight Sun Bee Club (Alaska). Hopefully I will get to meet some of these folks 'face-to-face' when I go up for my fishing trip in July.

Had a friend call me and tell me their hive had swarmed. Went to their house and discovered that they didn't get very far (I suspect their queen was wing-clipped) - they just moved in to this little planter pot on the ground. Setup a box and they marched right in!

I've seen people take bars of wax and rub it on foundation, but I've never been able to get as much on their as I've wanted. So I decided to try something new... and it seems like it worked pretty well.

Last fall a lady had me come pick up a dresser from her back yard that a hive of bees had moved into. Rather than trying to move the bees in the fall, I elected to let them over winter in the dresser and wait until spring to remove them. Today was the removal. Forced abscond from a "Drag Line" (piece of heavy machinery that digs dirt out of ponds). This job took Kyle & I about 9 hours...

My 2nd attempt at building a "Long Langstroth" beehive. My main reason for building this is so I can move my biggest, strongest hive into this and use it as a "comb builder" so I have a ready supply of built out frames for other hives (cut outs and swarm captures). Edit: the sad news is that this thing was a waste of time and money. The bees did not do very well in it, and the hive did not last...

We thought this was going to be a forced abscond from underneath the house. But as it turned out, the entry was very easy to open and expose the entire hive.
