This is fascinating. I'm an American whose great grandmother came from Clooney. I've never been to Ireland and know nothing more about my great grandmother than her name and her date of baptism in the parish record. Mr. Lenihan just brought the area and its culture to life for me.
I’m a writer myself with lots of Ireland in my blood and I absolutely love the book.. it’s such an important thing that people read it that I buy loads of copies and mail them out lol. I’m a single mother but I do my part to get Eddie’s brilliant storytelling into the hands of my friends. And if they don’t like it we aren’t meant to be friends. Because you’d have to be a soulless weasel to do anything less than sleep with a copy.
It certainly was, We still use this saying today, ( I'm in Belfast ) Both my Grandfathers came from the country, One from Augher, One from Camlough. Anyhow both my Grandmother's were devoutly Catholic, One went to Augher one day and what she saw, she never told us, but she swore to her dying day there were fairies. I believe her.
Can't get enough of this man's storytelling. He is a Seanchai for the ages and I hope somehow his archive is preserved for posterity. Compared to what his collection must be, the amount of stories available online (Amazon, iTunes, etc.) is rather limited it seems. I would like to see more of his work published.
I have watched & listened to all the youtube videos of Eddie. In one he says he'll leave his (great) collection to an American university, as I think a Dublin one would just store it away. I went to his website I most buy the book about the fairies.
I definatly want to tell stories like this. Especially as I already have the tales. I hope that when I'm travelling the Irish coast, later this year. That I can meet this fellow.
i remember him on kids t.v he was so good at telling stories for kids and grown up alike.. Is he still alive,,if so r.t.e need to put him back on.. to amaze and entertain a new genaration of irish kids.. can you find any more clips??
This man is a gift. The way he paints old Ireland with such magic and mystery really makes me feel like an excited child when i listen to him. A true Irish legend.

Anyone else remember that old saying away with the fairies? Listening to his stories makes me think it was more than just a saying at one time.

Can you imagine driving around the countryside with him in the passenger seat? You'd never get anywhere, there'd be so many stories.
Would be an amazing journey though
And then you introduce him to your wife and she says," Who are you talking to? I don't see anyone."
@@noumenonjohn6136 Haha, I love that thought mate.
