    What an utterly bizarre sitcom but strangely interesting to watch. The popping out of existence is a little freaky. Not going to lie.

    Unlike many so-called comedians this guy was actually funny without being obnoxious. His comedy inspired the type of "over-educated" singing comedy that I do today as an old man. RIP Kelly Monteith a true original funny man.

    I had forgotten about this show until his passing a few days ago. I remember watching these shows when I was about 11 years old. He was way ahead of his time as a writer and performer, I can't think of anything else around that era that was anything like this show. RIP Jelly. I'm surprised he didn't become a major star in the US either before or after this show. Also interesting to see a young Marina Sirtis turn up in this years before she found fame in Star Trek The Next Generation.

  • @brucedanton3669

    I remember his show too-it ran for about five series, either on BBC1 or BBC2, then was repeated on one or either of the channels at the time. But then it ended; not only that, but later on since then I don't think it has ever been reshown on any channel, oddly, nor I guess did it come out on DVD. It is as if the BBC has forgotten him entirely, seeing as really he then just vanished from our screens? Thank you though!

    • @brucedanton3669
      @brucedanton3669 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is also like another series at the time, Dear Ladies, which I remember too-I know that is different really completely, but that too I don't think has ever been reshown since. Odd really though?

    • @simonjones7727
      @simonjones7727 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brucedanton3669 Dear Ladies is much more risque than its original audience realized, as was indeed the original stage show. Lines after a nautical song such as "Evadne is always saying how lovely it is to have a little bit of the sailor inside of you" I suspect that much less of this would get past a modern audience. It wasn't just about nice Ivor Novello songs!

      What happened was his last series on BBC he tried a different style by going behind the scenes of his own show and making his characters less likeable because they were meant to be real life, it was a little ahead of its own time people were expecting his usual show but it was more bitter and satirical and cynical and it did not go well after that we never saw him again in England, l understood it as l watched it but like others l was expecting his usual lighter show and l turned it off, the same thing happened with Phil Cool he tried something different in his last show and people just were perplexed and complained about it saying they wouldn't watch him anymore and he too vanished.

    Really sad to hear of his passing - he was such a good comedian, mixing superb visual humour, an easy-going style (repleat with American idioms), with superb observations on British life (also, hearing an American on British TV at the time was still rather rare, so he had originality as well). RIP Kelly.
