Part 2 - I start the repairs to my ZX6R J2 after I crashed the bike I have owned and cherished for the last 16 years. Replacing the subframe will confirm if that is the only frame damage I need to worry about or is this bike just scrap?

Sadly, I crashed the bike I have owned and cherished for the last 16 years. I am hopeful that I can rebuild this myself and that the damage is not too much. This video takes a quick look at the state of my bike without starting any work yet, but to see what parts will be required to fix. I repaired a crashed Abarth 595 - will it pass the MOT?
มุมมอง 309ปีที่แล้ว
Abarth 596 2016 Grey CatN This Abarth 595 is ready for it's MOT. It's loud and quick too. Will it pass the MOT or did I miss anything safety critical? Not sure but I am on edge for this as I could have easily missed something. However, I checked everything obvious and even found my horn not working as I did not reconnect the plug properly. This is also my first opportunity to actually drive an ...
Did B3C Mechanic In A Bottle keep my motorbike carbs clear after winter storage?
มุมมอง 1.1Kปีที่แล้ว
This is my quick review of B3Cs Mechanic In A Bottle which is "designed to combat and help fix fuel related issues on poor or non-running engines" and specifically for my situation "removes all varnish in the fuel system without having to remove the carburetor". I never do any special pre-storage procedures for my 2001 Kawasaki ZX6R and normally just leave it in my garage from the last ride in ...
My salvage Abarth 595 gets a full service with timer reset and looks fantastic after it's first wash

Abarth 596 2016 Grey CatN Now I have the Abarth service kit it is time to rejuvenate this neglected little 595. A good wash also reveals no further concerns and its starting to look sweet! Music: www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music #Abarth595 #salvage #copart
Control arm, inter-cooler and headlight replaced. Plus, not serviced in years and oil run dry!

Abarth 596 2016 Grey CatN Getting the lower control arm on is no easier than removing the damaged one. I get the new wind aligned and car back on all fours. I also get the new inter-cooler fitted and I am able to drive it a short distance down the drive and back. I also get rid of that awful black tinting spray off the rear lights. Time to strip down my Abarth 595 and see exactly what needs doing.

Abarth 596 2016 Grey CatN I really do not know what damage lurks beneath so time to strip it down. I have a huge struggle with the lower control arm which i find much harder to remove than I thought. Music: www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music #Abarth595 #salvage #copart
There are more issues than I bargained for on this Abarth 595 Copart catN salvage purchase.

Abarth 596 2016 Grey CatN My second salvage purchase is a 2016 Abarth 595 with damage to the front near side area. Copart advertised as run and drive but although it started could not get any response from the accelerator. Also, the car is filthy and moldy inside. Here I give a workaround and start to look at some of the errors being shown. #Abarth595 #salvage #copart

Just bought a j1 6r and the stator case is corroded so will be changing , found your video very helpfull 👍especially the jis screwdriver info 😀 cheers
Thanks for the comment and glad you found my video useful. It’s surprising how crucial the JIS screwdrivers are on those screws.
Just signed up to the channel as got the same bike after watching your vids and a few others about J2s 😁Definitely will be trying this out for winter storage as that ran so well after such a long period. Could do with a bit of advise - looking to change original end can & wondered whether you had to re-jet after putting on the Micron? Should I change the coolant and brake fluid if its not been changed in last few years when bike has had little use? Also, the front side panel has a few deep scratches through the stickers - noticed your having to redo this on your bike and wondered what's the best way. Sorry for all the questions but your vids are an inspiration🤩
Hi and thanks for the sub. It wasn’t rejected for the end can but I believe (please feel free to fact check me) that rejecting only required if end can upgraded and air filter changed for something like k&n. I would change coolant and fluid for sure if it’s many years, but if only a few will be fine. Check the colour, if looks dark then change it. For the deep scratches, use that Big Boy plastic filler I used, easy to work with and finishes well. Unfortunately came off it again a few weeks back so need to do that panel again. Good luck though, glad I’ve inspired you!!
@@bikenut Thanks for the advice about not needing to reject for just an end can change - definitely want to put something more sporty on. Will check the colour of the coolant and brake fluid - gr8 tip. Sorry to hear your needing to do the panel again - must have felt gutting but will check out the filler recommended. Keep up the v.helpful vids😁
All the effort doing a decent job on the calipers, only to go and put soft as melted butter, guaranteed to give ya massive brake fade, bloody vegan (organic) crap brake pads
Haha, I’ll take the compliment on the caliper rebuild. I know organic pads aren’t as sharp but they have done me fine for road use.
Мира и процветания западу🤝 сам владею этой моделью, отличный байк несмотря на его возраст🤟он способен надрать зад многим современным моделям 😁🤝
Thanks for your comment - agreed, I absolutely love this bike, I’ve probably had it 17 years now.
This is valid for abarth 595 year 2018??
Hi, yeah the TFT screen should be the same. If not, at least the procedure will be in Multiecuscan.
Loosen the bolts on both sprockets before removing the chain. 👍
Haha, yeah great tip. Why didn’t I think of that?
What size spark plug socket did you use was it a 16mm? Cheers
Hi, it’s there or there abouts. Actual size on my socket is imperial 5/8
Thought Carl Froch had started himself a TH-cam channel for a moment :)
Haha, don’t think Carl would be too happy with that but made me laugh.
the uk now has over one million potholes and roads and side streets are no longer fit for purpose but you still have to pay 💰 uk is one big joke
Agreed, our roads are in a shocking state. There’s even potholes on the M62 and a few other motorways.
Hi sir I am from India I have same model bike zx6r I need some parts of it would you provide me
Hi, the only parts I have are those I removed for binning. eBay are a pretty good source but parts are becoming harder to find at a decent price. What do you need?
Great video mate, Iv just come across your channel and il be sticking around 🎉
Thank you - glad you liked and appreciate your comment.
Did you have problems starting or running the bike before changing the filter?? I'm having some fuel issues wiht my 05 rn.... :(
It’s hard to say really if changing the filter made much of a noticeable difference. What did make a difference though was using Mechanic In A Bottle - I did a video on that.
@@bikenut Thank you! I’ll check it out
Great job. 👍👍
Thanks
Awesome! Thanks for the understanding tray section! 🎉
No problem - hope it helps you!
😢
Yes gutted, but it will be road ready again very soon.
Glad to see you are OK, now get right back on that horse. Simple as that.
Roger that! I can’t wait to get back on it
Did something similar on my R6 pulled front brake because some tool decided to emergency brake as people were waiting on the side of the road but weren't even going to cross. But about the same damage on right side. Managed to fill the scratches and repaint the upper fairing (installing the indicators is a pain to get through fairing and clip in) snapped a footpeg and sort of tripped over the bike and landed on my knees in full gear so only a bit of bruising mine was pretty slow though about 10mph as i'd already took the brunt of speed down but i think i hit some oil in the road and the front just pulled out from under me. First time i'd been down on a bike was pretty gutting to say the least and the driver in front just took off Glad you walked away hopefully the bike isn't too much of pita to fix
Thank you - yes it sure is a bit gutting, worse is when you pick it up off the floor and reveal the damage. I’ve replaced a front indicator before after I knocked it off when it was parked in my garage. I found that by submerging the firm rubber in hot water for a short time that it made it temporarily flexible enough to mount into the fairing.
@@bikenut I could of done with that piece of information a week ago as i tried and failed to get them into the fairing so i just opted for some flush fitted ones Glad you are planning on fixing it though rather than just writing it off its a beauty
be interesting to see you bring it back to it's original condition rather than do the classic swap it for a newer bike.
Restoring this is my absolute intention. I’ve had the bike too long to give up on it. As long as the new subframe aligns then it’s game on!
@@bikenut GOOD MAN! I believe you can do it!
Очень жалко, у самого такой же ))) удачи
Thank you. Hopefully will be all good again soon.
Sorry to hear this buddy, I hope you are okay. However are you able to do a video on your tail tidy with the under tray links etc. cheers
Hi - thank you, yes I will spend a bit of time showing that for you on the next video.
Before removing the tank, unscrew your fuel knob makes taking the tank off so easy
Ha, did I not do that? I usually do haha.
@bikenut seemed like it was a little difficult to maneuver sorry if I'm wrong bud! Just trying to help make life easier
If you don't mention which tool you use then the video is worthless
Hi, sorry about that - which tool are you referring to and I’ll let you know?
Good job and nice video but please trim your nails good sir, every time they scratched anything I could feel shivers down my spine
Haha, I know I know lol. I have noticed that myself when editing.
Great video 👍🏼always took my car to garage for service but fed up paying silly money and this was easy enough for me to have a go 😬😁just one thing what jack was that you were using.?
Thanks - yes same here, you can save a fortune. It’s a bottle jack, not really ideal for this as only just managed to fit under but all I had at the time.
Thanks for replying 👍🏼
I have a j 1😊😊,I'm turning it to a. 9orz12,,good day,
Hi, sounds like an interesting project. Are you adding any videos of this to TH-cam?
That jap chain ,,😄😶🌫️wh 6:34 ope ass😊😂😂❤
Holy F. Did you just remove the front sprocket nut with pliers?? And without a chain on. Jesus. Mine is stuck on there like its welded.
Ha, maybe I just got lucky? Not sure if I showed in the video or not but is there a washer that is folded against the nut that needs prising back first?
❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂💯💯
What size of socket do I need? Struggling to find a socket that fits 😂
Mine was the same i slipped a 6foot scaffolding bar over my socket and say 12 inch extention bar and it to some doing. I taught some was going to break but it just opened.
Yes i have been using it for about 20 years now. Iuse it in all my yard and garden equipment and my motorcycle. I have NEVER had a problem with it starting. GREAT STUFF.
Still using it, I started the bike last weekend for first time in about 5 months and it was fine, revs a little low for a few mins and a bit of stuttering but carbs soon cleared themselves and no stripping down. It really is good stuff.
Thanks man for the video. Might checking the position of the camera sometimes would help, but very helpful your explanations. Keep it up!
Thank you - yes it’s harder than you think trying to video and work. I’m going to get back to it but so so busy recently. Thanks for the support!
Which model carb balancer are you using, SK or BK model Cheers
Hi - just had a look at it says SK on the unit.
O carburador numero. 1 da esquerda,o primeiro ja vem ajustado de fábrica,ai vc ajusta os outros 3 igual o numero 1,o numero 1 nao tem parafuso de ajuste, serve de orientaçao para regular os outros 3 iguais
Thanks for your comment but I don’t think that is correct. With this carb, 1 and 2 are sync’d with the adjustment screw between them, the same then for 3 and 4. Once you have 1 sync’d with 2 and 3 sync’d with 4, you can then sync both pairs with the adjustment screw in the middle.
So that’s interesting to hear - I’ve no reason to doubt you and can not find any resources on specific Brazilian versions of the bike. Thanks for sharing.
It had such a nice purr once you synced them 👌🏼
Thanks for noticing - it sounded even better in person.
What about petrol fuel filter
Yes I should have done that and also the brake fluid ideally. Car was on about 34k miles.
Hi the bar of the economy meter on the right works normally.. when I put sport it does not work what should I do?
Hi, have you retrofitted the TFT display? If so it may need other modules replacing. There is an excellent article on this here. forum.eurocompulsion.net/articles/installation-guides-tips/85-2015-tft-cluster-retrofit-guide
Lovely when its finished !!❤
It is, or there about. Could do with alloys refurbed but it’s a little belter. Check out my other vids.
@@bikenut will do!! Thanks👍
You can use heat temperature paint for your calipers that's what I did now they look mint 👍🏼
That is exactly what they need - can you get that in the factory colour too? Which one did you use?
Just done mine look mint, I used deco colour satin gold spray paint, 9.99 and there's enough to do fronts and rears.
@@nicklee9590 thanks - looks like Amazon sell that so I’ll get a can. Cheers!
Great video, thanks for sharing. Now feel a bit more confident about changing my daughter's oil over the next few days. Just wondering, did the sump plug have a washer/seal on it when you drained the oil?
Hi Tony - glad you found it helpful. Yes, there is a copper crush washer which you should replace rather than reuse.
Thank you so much@@bikenut. Have ordered one off eBay now. Again, thanks for the advice.
Hey the top hose connected to the gas tank is a breather tube? We’re does it plug in at the bottom? I’m rebuilding my bike & I was scratching my head on that part
Hi Nick, it just routes down wherever it naturally drops and does not attach to anything at the bottom.
@@bikenut thanks for this information…
Dude! All you had to do is remove the master link. Wtf!!!
So, you’ve never removed a continuous OEM chain then!
Oem chains dont have links
@@marcquirante2383 yeah, I already apologized to him.
@@bikenut does the link get damaged in process? Have to add a new link later?
Hi, the link is undamaged if you’re careful grinding the head off the pin. Only the pin should need replacing.
Where are the drain plugs for the carbs located? Also is there a better place to contact you?
Have a look on the back of the carbs - if still on bike. What are you aiming to do?
@@bikenut Trying to see if my bike has gas in the carbs
Is it running poor or not at all? If running poor stick some “Mechanic in a bottle” in the tank (as in this video) which will help with cleaning the carbs. If not at all it could be the fuel pump - check your fuses and also have a look at the filter to make sure it’s not blocked.
Anybody have any experience with ram air mod? Bike will fire, idle, then die after a bit. I want to sync the carbs but I’m assuming I need to figure out the air box first if I’m correct?
Interested to hear more about the “ram air mod” - what is that?
Mate, that tool is fucking luxury compared to my plastic tool with a bent rod
currently using this as a guide for my 2001 zx6r
I have the exact same bike and you've saved me a ton of money with these videos thank you
Thanks for the comment and glad you’ve found my videos useful.
BEFORE removing the fuel tank, fire it up and let it warm up to make the temp funnel not so much of a PIA mate. The 4 minutes it takes to remove it and remove the air box cover it will still be warm. I use a 1 Gallon self made carb feed for these kinds of things, syncing and testing, and it is much safer that releasing explosive vopors all around your shop with a running bike....FYI.
Thanks and good tip - sure, my method is a bit Heath Robinson and dodgy AF but it was well ventilated.
Thanks mate, I have the same bike in red . I will attempt myself after getting fed up paying people for crap jobs on my bike.
Nice one - I find it quite satisfying to do my own jobs now.
Владелец сам должен обслуживать и ремонтировать свой самокат 🤟😁
Where can i purchase that exhaust from?
Hi, they are no longer made from what I can see but just had a quick search on eBay and found someone has a load of these new and they come with the removable baffle which I never had. Search for item number 254104325620
Hello there, do you remember the main and pilot jet sizes that work well with this exhaust?
Hi Rishi, I’m sorry I haven’t got a clue. The exhaust came already on the bike. I will be doing a DynoJet upgrade soon though.
Can't you re-use the Abarth stripe from the old wing and put it on this so they line up?
Hi Charlie, that was my plan but on attempted removal it just stretched out far too much. I think I may have used too much heat though. I’m going to get a piece of vinyl I think and trim to suit.
Nice job. Should fetch some good money.
Cheers! I’m sure I’ll get my money back at least. Such a fun car to drive too.
