496 stroker first fire (set up for a jet boat)
that is water, not gas. please, stop telling me it's gas. it's hooked up to a water hose to cool it. the engine is set up for a jet boat.

What is your total timing set at and where does your initial timing end up falling to? What Octane fuel are you using? Thanks
It was pump gas. Other than that I have no idea. My late father built the engine almost a decade ago

Sounds like my garage when I was growing up in the ‘70’s and my dad and his friends built bad ass boat engines for flat bottom v-drives and jet boats. I miss my dad and those great sounding V8’s. This video brought back some great memories. Thank you.

That motor needs to be taken apart before it locks up. You can compress air but not water.
It is ment for a jet boat. It is running as intended.
@ Fireball Robbie Marine exhaust is double walled, Think of it like a regular exhaust system and then they build another exhaust system around that one! The water circulates through the engine then enters the exhaust between the two walls circulates through the pipes and then towards the end of the headers the water finally messes with the exhaust and exits the boat!

Why does water come out of the headers? And what rpm is the idle...I don't know anything about boats or the engines I just really curious because it seems to me the order of operations is off from the normal bbc or sbc lol
@ Dave G Cars have a closed loop cooling system which means the coolant keeps circulating through the engine and back through the radiator, On a boat the water is the corn and it gets picked up either on the back of the boat or on the bottom of the hole and then it runs through the entire engine then through the exhaust and out through the tail pipes! The exhaust on a boat is not like a car! The exhaust on a boat has a double wall, So the water enters the front of the exhaust through all the pipes and then at the far end of the headers it finally mixes with the exhaust and then exits the back of the boat! Hope this helps!

My dad was a master mechanic. This is the only video I have of him. He was excited to see this thing come alive. I lost my dad in August of 2020 to cancer. He loved to hunt, fish and build hot rods. I miss him every day. Today was his and my moms 30th anniversary so he's been on my mind and this is the only way I can visit him. I'm glad I got a video of him doing somthing he loved. I miss you dad. I'm sorry I couldnt get home in time to say goodbye.

This motor was for a jet boat. The way a jet boat cools itself is it pulls water from where its sitting so we would hook it up to water to simulate that so we could set the engine timing
I think it runs too rich
They want them a little wet, detnotation issues if leaned out

if thats gas why is a water line hooked up to the motor it's water or his cigarette would have roached them all
You are correct about the water line connected to the engine, but a cigarette will NOT ignite gasoline or fumes. If you don't believe me, then get a coffee can or something similar, put about a cup of gasoline in it and toss a lit cigarette there.. It will go out as soon as it hits the gasoline. You can also hold it around the fumes and it will not ignite either. The reason gas stations have no smoking signage is because people can ignite fumes when they initially light up their cigarette.
