Jigged 20 Incher Trout Nymph
In this video we tie a jigged 20 incher nymph on a sz 8 Ahrex FW550 jig hook. While the 20 incher was originally designed as a stonefly nymph, we tie it in this smaller size to imitate a large mayfly nymph. We use it in the late spring and early summer on the very upper reachers of the McKenzie river here in Oregon where green drakes are abundant.

Green Drake Dry Fly Tilt Wing
We look forward to the Green Drake hatch every year on the Mckenzie, Willamette, Metolious, and Deschutes, and so do the Trout. In this video we tie one of our favorite Green Drake dry flies. This fly is buoyant, visible and the fish love it.
Purple Parachute Dry Fly
Clay ties a Purple Parachute in this video. This fly resembles an adult mayfly, while not imitating a specific insect, it can pass as a March Brown, Blue Wing Olive, Grey Drake, Flav, or any other Mayfly, making it very versatile. It is also a great attractor dry fly, using it when there isn't a specific hatch occurring. Trout love purple for some reason...
The MEGA Prince, Fly Tying For Trout mega prince
The Mega Prince is a staple fly here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, and should be a staple anywhere there are Stonefly Nymphs. We tie the Mega Prince on a #8 Ahrex FW550 jigged hook in this video, but we love it tied on standard curved nymph hooks as well, such as Daiichi 1760 or Ahrex FW540. The Mega Prince has a lot of moving parts, making it a fishy, buggy fly.
Marabou Tube Fly for Steelhead
Clay ties a Marabou Tube Fly in this video. We use this fly year 'round for steelhead, adding the Tungsten bead for winter and fishing it weightless in the summer. It's a versatile fly that has taken many steelhead here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, and anywhere steelhead swim. Tie some up in your favorite color combo and give 'em a swim!
Tying the Clay Maker Jigged Trout Nymph claymaker
Clay unveils his secret weapon in this weeks video, "The Clay Maker". This is a quick effective fly that has proven itself on our local trout rivers. The Clay Maker is most often fished underneath a Chubby Chernobyl as a dry doppper rig.
How to create and EXTENDED BODY/Beginning Fly Tying extended body
In this video we demonstrate how to create an extended body for your larger foam bodied flies, this style of extended body is great for stonefly patterns, hoppers and large caddis flies. Thread is used to create segmentation in the body, you can vary the color of foam and thread to simulate whatever colors are in the insect you're trying to imitate. An extended body is a great way to add a bit ...
Tying the Steelhead Muddler
The Steelhead Muddler is a fly often used for Summer Steelhead. This muddler is tied with the intention to skate on the surface rigged with a riffle hitch, it's often used as a 'come back' fly after a fish has showed to a larger waking fly.
How to tie a Norm Woods Special
In this video we tie a classic stonefly pattern, the Norm Woods Special. This is a favorite stonefly pattern of ours because of its durability, floatation and quickness of tie.
Rabbit Strip Tube Fly AKA "The Samurai"
In this video we tie one of our favorite flies to swing for Winter Steelhead. It's a basic platform, allowing you to tie the pattern in a variety of color schemes, sizes and weights. This fly is tied on a tube, allowing for easy change of hooks, and direct connection to the hook, allowing for less leverage for the hook to be pulled out once the fish is hooked.
Fly Tying a Chubby Chernobyl in Royal color scheme / Dry Dropper
In this video we tie a Chubby Chernobyl in a Royal color scheme. The Chubby Chernobyl has become an iconic fly, you should find them in every fly shop and every anglers box. We use these nearly every day in our trout guiding, primarily as the dry fly in our dry dropper set up. We love it's buoyancy and lack of maintenance concerning floatant. Two applications of Flyagra and it's floating all da...
Tying a Jigged Pheasant Tail Nymph / Effective Nymph for Trout
A jigged pheasant tail nymph comes off the vise in this video. We love this platform of Ahrex FW550 and 5/32 tungsten bead, it's a great "dry dropper" nymph because the weight perfectly balances a properly tied sz 8 Chubby Chernobyl. We use this nymph all spring summer and fall, and we feel that it deserves a place in your fly box as well! Hollowaybrosfishing.com
Tying the Clark's Stone / one of the best Stonefly patterns / fly tying / fly tying for beginners
In this video we tie a slight variation on a Clark's Stonefly. This is one of our favorite Golden Stonefly patterns, particularly for discriminate fish feeding in smooth water. The Clark's Stone doesn't have the buoyancy that a Chubby Chernobyl or a Norm Woods might have, but that's what makes it such a great patter for selective fish. With it's lack of floatation, it sits lower in the water, w...

Sharp looking muddler. I know there's a few foam waking flies but have you ever tried skating a Booby? The way you described tying the r. hitch behind the muddler head and the tail under the surface made me think of that. Thanks

I like the flexibility of this "tilt wing" pattern. We have green drakes in some of out streams but they are a PALE greenish cream. I know, good luck with the dubbing "pallet". Thank you for sharing. Peter b

fished it for several years on the deschutes without legs. Do you think the color of the legs makes a differance

    • @hollowaybrosfishing9197
      @hollowaybrosfishing9197 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Richard, I don't think the color of the legs matter too much to the trout, I however like a color combo that matches the fly. I do think the trout like the legs in general, regardless of color. Thanks for the question!
