    Great video, had the same issue, found this video, utterly perfect. Yes a total swine!!! It's a terrible design, the swing and direction of the mechanism just wants to pull it out of the retaining bracket, a poorly designed part! Great video on resolution, I'm just waiting for the glue to dry. I've tried to find a third party improved bracket, but I couldn't one.

    POS Same problem here. Every month this car will come up with something new to test your patience and sanity. As if we bought a car from Satan himself. Yes this is a warning to anyone in the market. Do not buy a mini.

    Without realising it, you broke my heart by cutting away the wood-look strip down the side! That was the best bit! (Well, in the brochure it was, before time faded it!) That looked so great against this lovely shade of blue! I'm now, as a result, off to commit suicide! (After I've done a bit of shopping, first!)

    Stupid cable kept popping out of the channel when I installed a new release lever. As you said "Stupid Design". Put some JB Weld in the channel to hold the thing in there. Appears to be working. Glue? Really? Even a first grader could design something better than that :(

    Done the same thing to my countryman. But the hood is shut. Even using 2 pliers to pull the wires that has come of from the interior/latch/metal teeth doesn’t work and I can’t open my hood. Can someone help me with this? any other where of getting under the hood to fix it? :(

    • @Interknetz
      @Interknetz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you have it fixed by now, but for anyone else with the same issue (as I have the same issue!), if your mini has the double junction box thing under the bonnet (check your car model online via images for this) then you'll need a long screwdriver and to get under the car. There's videos on this on what to look for. The other variant I saw was taking the wheel arch lining out and pushing the cable to the front of the car to release the mechanism on both sides.

    Hello Michael, I have the same car and id like to know the cost of restoring it, pls. How can i contact you, thank you.

    • @michaelowen1435
      @michaelowen1435 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mohan, the total cost of the restoration was approx £5000. That's not counting my labour. If you're good at welding and can spray a car you'll save there. I joined the 1100 club after the restoration and wish I'd joined previously as you can get spares from their helpful team a lot cheaper than ebay. It took me 18months to complete the work and since I got the MOT I've had a few teething problems that I've had to overcome but saying that this Sunday I did 125miles and reached the dizzy speed of 65mph for a couple of miles. Real driving and great fun. I wish you all the luck with your project, don't give up, the satisfaction at the end is great.

      @mohandas8733 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thnx so much for getting back to me.Wow. 18 months- im trying to ship mine from Penang or get it done here-problem is that many do not have the parts for this here-i live in Berlin and am currently viewing the options. Ive spoke to some people and one i know has mentioned changing the suspension due to the difficulty in getting spare parts. The car is currently just lying around here , it hasnt been driven around for 3 years and i have bricks placed underneath it due to the suspension which has gone off. Chassis is absolutely fine but work needs to be done on the susension, brakes, interior, rubber isolation on windows etc.There are not many in the world today , ive read its only about 4 in the UK for this particular model . Im torn between keeping it or selling it. Its very rare . And also, im no mechanic-this car was given to me by my late Dad and ive just flown in to check all my options.

    Comment is disabled for the video: *Mini Countryman Bonnet Release Problem* I have similar issue and paid a visit to my local Mini today. They quoted me £338 to get it finished. Day light rubbery! I will attempt to fix it myself or take it to a third party/authorised mini service garage.

    Not good seeing a car resting on bricks! Axle stands are not that expensive. Nice to see you saving one of the Countryman though.

    • @michaelowen1435
      @michaelowen1435 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I agree but when the rear subframe was off and I was rebuilding the front end with the engine removed there was no option but to hold the main body on the planks and bricks. Health and safety would have crucified me. Where needs must though.

    Great fix-it video, Michael. Read a lot of forums about removing wheels and inner wheel arches, and the fix - thankfully - was a lot, lot easier and quicker on my R56 Cooper. The bonnet is now open, the super glue is now drying - and I agree, bad piece of design. Thank You, Michael!
