Areelu Vorlesh VS the Abyss
This was made via modding as something of a showcase and tech demo. Full explanation below:
I learned through Toy Box that there was a lot more to some statblocks than the AI would often utilize, especially Areelu's. Feats, mythic feats and abilities, a huge list of spells and abilities portioned out as move, swift, and regular actions, full set of equipment, several unique feats and buffs, and a massive list of "ordinary" spell buffs as well. I wanted to put together a boss fight of her against the lords to show her off and see what a custom battle like this would look like.
To accomplish this, on version 1.1.0, Core difficulty with Additional Enemy Behaviors enabled (so, Custom with Core settings+that), I spawned in Areelu, took control of her, applied the buffs from her boss fight, then spawned in the other four, saved, went into the save file, found the json key for each lord, and modified them all to be the "boss" faction. That was required to put them on the same team, against the player. Then I loaded the save and recorded attempts at the fight. Everyone had their full set of abilities, equipment, and buffs in this battle.
The AI for some of these bosses, as mentioned above, can be complicated and unstable, especially when you put them in an environment they're not meant to be in with obstacles they're not designed to account for. This video isn't just the first attempt I won, it's the only attempt I could actually finish. Every other attempt resulted in a soft-lock that broke combat irreconcilably.
I didn't have a clear strategy, because I wasn't sure how to make optimal use of everything she has. As a DM, using Areelu would give you anxiety. That said, let's at least try to think like a Vorlesh and identify the key factors of this match-up.
Areshkagal and Baphomet were both rather nonthreatening. Their abilities either targeted immunities or had way too low DC's for endgame bosses. This highlights one of the awkward parts of enemy VS enemy combat. They're meant to survive for a long time without immediately wiping you, so it's essentially throwing two tanks at each other.
Deskari was only threatening on a crit because of his massive multiplier, but Baphomet throwing out Wave of Exhaustion on Areelu with Deskari in the AOE left him unable to stay close enough to follow through.
Nocticula on the other hand...she essentially almost won single-handedly. Areelu has a feature (Unbreakable Defense) that essentially gives her four lifebars. Her numerical HP value isn't "real", it can drop to half four times, then her fight is scripted to end. A single round of Sneak Attacks takes off one of these pseudo-lifebars.
Thus, I had two major threats in mind doing this fight. Getting flanked, and being in Deskari's melee range. Neither of those happened. Instead, Nocticula managed to get Areelu to fail major Will Saves *twice*, *after* Baphomet and Areshkagal had already died!
In other words, Areelu won overall due to her preparations, but Nocticula won the moral victory by demonstrating how a few dice rolls would have immediately handed her the win. She's clearly the queen of the Abyss.
If I grinded this fight out, a lot, do I think I could get a flawless victory (winning without triggering Unbreakable Defense)? Yes, I could definitely learn to do this more efficiently, but more so it's essentially a matter of never failing Nocticula's Will Saves. But it's not just a matter of that, it's also a matter of the fight not soft-locking because of the AI, which happened five times in a row. I don't think it's worth it. 101th run this month, whoo. Noni-aly was extremely sloppy because I kept target switching to the wrong one of them, and eventually I just got sick of it and nuked them, but other than that, run was fine, fairly average. As for the video stuttering, I wasn't getting it in gameplay. (Combos would have been dropping like wildfire if my game lagged like that lol)

Encoding the video as 50 FPS actually made it look a lot choppier than it was in gameplay, that's weird. It was basically lagless. I'll stick to 60 next time.

how did you made nocticula and baphomet attack? Spawning them in the toybox is set on friendly and wont attack. Cant find the json keys for bosses either in save file dont know waht to look for.
I remember a playthough using an emulator where I tried to get every single darkling equipment on a non darkling class player. That one is a slog but I think that’s manageable. Tbf, I played as ALL 4 characters so that makes it way too easy
Had a lot of tun playing all 4 characters and focusing their builds around different stats. Was very useful for experimenting with the speed stat especially
This remind me that during final battle with duo baphomet + Deskari all I do is heal her lmao she wipe the floor tanking and killing both of them.

Me and my group managed to kill him once actually. We all teamed up to accomplish it. Sadly I don’t think there’s a recording of that. Me and my fiancé also ALMOST beat the Robo Assassin once too! We were SOO close! I may have pictures, will have to look now.

I beat Darkling once, and I still have the save of it. (It's a save right before defeating Darkling, can kill Darkling the same way over and over again when reload it on my PS2). At that time I was beside Pyramid and lvl 40-50, not too high. Was using a Knitten Mitten that has chances of increases AT when attacking. Also my At stats was WAAYYYY over the top since early game and one shot everything throughout the game, but other stats are very low ofc. Had revival, deathblok and reveal , somehow beat ai Darkling holy yeahh

The player who fought the darkling is a Hero class (job)
Believe it or not, you can't kill a darkling with a Strike... or do anything other than suicide for that matter. Regardless of weather it's a human player or a computer player, a darkling will always auto-counter.
By "No Strike" they're referring to the *usual* method of having the Darkling Strike... Which the AI sometimes does. Countering that insta-kills the Darkling.

I completely understand that. Darklings are intended to be nearly invincible against characters of their own level. Putting an overleveled character against them basically is just putting that overleveled character against a generic boss of the same level.

Only banish gets auto bounced. Any other magic isn’t affected

I am. Their only guarantee is countering strike. They're extremely likely to use super bounce if your magic stat makes it your only option for dealing damage, but magic medicine allowed my regular attack to deal damage as well.

I think the most efficient way to beat the darkling (the way I do it) is to have a death block or two, and use copy. It's simple but works really well

Just looking at the damage from the strongest spell in the game, you wouldn't have needed revives anyway.
It’s good to have backup. If that shield didn’t proc, he would’ve taken a crap ton of damage and barely survive. Next fight if he didn’t get first strike he would’ve been dead
Nice! I got simular luck when trying to kill Camacho in the arena battle, my sword had a defense lowering Scorcher chance to proc, and it procd twice while I dodged on 26 HP. Pf987 Comacho is easy af if you're playing the Monk game(a.k.a the optimal route). You just use Soul Fire, tank one or two hits depending on turn order, and then oneshot him.

Didn't realize you could steal the Darkling's equipment. That must be brutal to have to play against.
I had it happen once, we literally tackled the player who was the darkling and caused him to hit strike while someone else countered, and he stole the demon sheild. This was on continent two. It was stupid.

Ah, that would make sense. Must be a decently rare drop then as well, kind of like how the Liches drop Underworld Staves.

Actually it a Proc effect and he got lucky. In my current Dokapon run I'm currently a robo knight with that shield and it has yet to proc.
