Hike on Film: Kowa Six + Kodak Portra 400
I had a short afternoon break while staying on 'the Lizard' in the UK, so I hiked a portion of the Cornish Coastal Path with my Kowa Six medium format camera loaded with Kodak Portra 400. The weather was far from optimal, but I made the best of it and maybe managed a few decent shots in this awesome coastal landscape.

French Polynesia on Film - a 35mm Point & Shoot Journey and Review
มุมมอง 7012 ปีที่แล้ว
Last summer I sailed around Tahiti and the French Polynesia islands while working for a Shark Week television show. We lived on a boat for two weeks, and space was limited, so I brought along my Olympus Superzoom 120 35mm point and shoot camera to capture the trip. I also tucked away in my bag a Canon Sure Shot A1 waterproof 35mm camera that a friend let me borrow in case I wanted to try some u...
Yellowstone on Super 8 [Kodak Vision3 50D / Elmo 1012S-XL]
มุมมอง 2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I spent a few days in Yellowstone National Park, and shot Super 8 film footage during the first half of my trip. I used Kodak Vision3 50D film on my Elmo 1012S-XL Super 8 camera. Check out my video on shooting medium format landscape photography on that same Yellowstone trip here: th-cam.com/video/xp8XQqZEnVk/w-d-xo.html I'm really happy with the combination of 50D and the Elmo camera, the imag...
Film Review: Cinestill 400D with Pentax 6x7 at Yellowstone National Park
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This summer, I took four rolls of Cinestill 400D in 120 format to Yellowstone National Park to see how it performed as a color negative landscape film. Everything was shot at box speed on a Pentax 6x7 with the 55mm, 105mm, or 200mm lens. The film was processed at Visions photolab in Santa Fe, and scanned by me on a Plustek Opticfilm 120 using Vuescan software. I didn't know quite what to expect...
Tahiti on Super 8 - Shot on Kodak Vision3 50D film with an Elmo 1012S-XL
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Early this summer, I went to Tahiti to shoot a Shark Week show for Discovery. Since we would be living in tight quarters on a Catamaran as we travelled around the French Polynesian islands, I couldn’t bring much with me. But I did keep enough space in my backpack for my Elmo 1012S-XL Super 8 camera and 2 cartridges of Vision3 8mm film, to shoot with on my brief moments of downtime during the jo...
Film Review: Cinestill 50D on Yashica FX-1 in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico
มุมมอง 9022 ปีที่แล้ว
I talk a bit about how this place got its unusual name, then take a walk around the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, to try out a 35mm roll of Cinestill 50D for the first time. Shooting it in a Yashica FX-1 SLR with the extremely fast 55mm f1.2 lens. Also, I didn't bring a tripod with me, so when it gets dark, I push slow-shutter handheld shooting to the limits!
Point and Shoot Review: Olympus MJU II and Española Lowriders
มุมมอง 6702 ปีที่แล้ว
I took an Olympus MJU-II out to see how it performs shooting street-style photography at a lowrider show and hop in Española, New Mexico - the self proclaimed "Lowrider Capital of the World." But first, what makes this camera so special? Does it deserve the hype? And IS IT WORTH THE PRICE?! Bonus points if you can spot what I'm really hoping is my next haircut! What's your favorite point and sh...

Hike on Film: Pentax 6x7 + Ilford FP4

Black and white landscape film photography while day hiking in the Nambe Badlands of northern New Mexico. Shooting medium format with a Pentax 6x7 MLU and one roll of Ilford FP4, and maybe Ektar? I love all your cameras! So many to choose from. I remember back in college a friend had this crazy Sony Mavica camera that I always thought was so neat. The thing used a floppy disk (lol, pre-memory-card era)! It was big and clunky, but that thing could take some amazingly good fast motion photos. I always look for it when I'm in a thrift store, but so far haven't found one again.

    Guess I'm a little late to the game - I'm only just now discovering this channel! But I agree, the Super 8 looks amazing. It reminds me of home videos from the 70's, and it somehow gives a different feel to the same scenes I just watched in you other longer Yellowstone video.

    It's always surprising to know that this camera is almost sixty years old and we really end up wondering what digital technology has given us, and if photography, like other fields, has finally regressed instead of moving forward. Personally my opinion has been made for a long time. It was like the transition from Vinyl to CD: a big scam.

    Wow! That *is* a lot of cameras. The OM10 can be more than an aperture priority 'point and shoot' camera with the addition of the optional 'manual adapter'. Plug it in and have full control over your exposures. Excellent camera and enjoyable video. ATB.

    Nope, sure doesn't look like Santa Fe! You made some fine images. I'm a Kowa Six fan as well (that would be a 150 lens, I think, not 135). I've shot a Pentax 6x7 (purchased from The Darkroom when Grant owned it) for right at 40 years and the lenses are fabulous and cheap now. But as you say, space matters when traveling.

    Great video It's really great when a professional with your experience and credits does a video with equipment anyone can afford. So many people show what great shots or video they have taken with super expensive equipment and although nice it seems to be more about the equipment than the person behind the lens. Thank You for all of the great content you have created over the years and the places that you have let us enjoy through your eyes.

    Heya! As a fellow Pentax 67 owner, just giving some advice on how to better care for your camera. When you wind the film advance lever, try not to let go of it and let it "snap" back into position, instead cradle it with your thumb as it returns back to its resting position. This will keep your film advance lever system healthy long term :) noticed this when you loaded your roll @7:20

    I just noticed this video again. Having been to Yellowstone a couple of times over the last 20 years on photo safaris (8 days; nothing but photography; no non-photographers on board), IMO if you plan a photo trip there, watching this video tells you about everything you need to know and where to go. Grand Prismatic Pool is better in sunlight, using a polarizer to cut surface glare and reveal the gradations of color and tone under the surface, a quibble. The herd of buffalo shown along the road from Yellowstone canyon south to Lake Yellowstone seems to be a permanent fixture But if you stop to shoot them, they are not afraid of people or cars, and they tend to move in close along the road. If they get in a mood, they can hurt you, as I nearly found out last time there. Use a telephoto and a respectful (and defensive) distance.

    Great looking footage. Just snagged a Nikon R10 in addition to the Elmo 1012 I have had for years and after watching this I am wondering, "Why?" LOL. How did you meter for this; in camera or with a handheld meter? Exposure is spot on. Was that all in camera or did you have to adjust after the fact? Thanks for sharing.

  • @orestes1984
    @orestes1984 ปีที่แล้ว

    The lens on the Elmo is amazing. I could only suggest a tiny bit of post processing sharpening to make up for the sotness of the the film and maybe next time try recording at 24fps instead of 18fps as the footage is a bit jerky.

    • @BrianCWeed
      @BrianCWeed ปีที่แล้ว

      It is jerky at 18fps for sure - but I kind of like that classic vintage vacation film look! And 24fps eats through the film so much faster, but does look great

    • @girmonsproductions
