JDJ Fly FIshing
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ม.ค. 2023
JDJ Fly Fishing is a group of friends who get together to fish, drink whiskey, and argue movies and music. Most of our fly fishing content is filmed in our home states of California and Missouri, although we venture to other locales whenever possible.
We are admittedly self-taught hacks when it comes to fly fishing and unapologetic fans of the John Deere Jig fly, the namesake of the channel. To prove the effectiveness of the JDJ, we’ve fished it successfully in the Eastern Sierra, Rocky Mountain National Park, the Iowa Driftless Region, and of course, in the Missouri Ozarks, where it is a popular pattern.
We are not fly fishing purists - just some guys who like to fish different types of water and species, from bluegill to brook trout, and have fun doing it. We also do some fixed-line fishing on occasion.
We film our fishing excursions mostly for ourselves but welcome other like-minded fly fishermen to subscribe to the channel and be a part of Team JDJ.

Lovely Trout at Montauk State Park in Missouri
Michael takes a quick trip down to Montauk State Park in the Missouri Ozarks. While it was a bit rainy and chilly for this time of year, he managed to pull in quite a few lovely trout. Enjoy! #montauk #montaukstatepark #trout #flyfishing

High Sierra Rainbow Trout in a Tiny Lake! Part 1
Similar to “Sir Frugal”😎, I received my chest pack from a donation at a PHWFF Colorado Springs Open House. I suspect an older fly fisher turned his Umpqua chest pack in as a donation…then upgraded. EXCELLENT! I truly enjoy my first chest pack (Umpqua)….a far improvement from my Harbor Freight black bag. Several of us PHWFF’ers have mobility issues. My (older generation) Umpqua chest pack keeps me balanced….allows my eyes to see forward….and my impaired balance over my shoulders, onto my hips. I can wade safely. Therefore, I love it‼️
😢
I've never been there but now I want to go!
Looks like it was a sweet trip!
Smooth move setting the hook immediately after taking a swig from the flask!
Such an amazing area. Love the geese!
Only been there a couple of times but yeah.. the Winter season is the best if you can withstand the cold temps.
It's a lot busier at Bennett Spring today, March 1! Winter catch and release is my favorite season to hit the Missouri trout parks.
Always dig these videos!
Hot Creek Ranch is an awesome place. Very highly educated Trout!
Great job Todd! Keep them coming!
Always look forward to your videos! Tenkara fishing looks like a blast. Keep 'em coming!
Nice water! Tenkara is great for high sticking over grassy banks. Plus, no line at your feet!
thanks~you did best . sleep well. Jdj!
Nice trout! I thought this place allowed dry fly fishing only? Perhaps due to high water, I guess that won't be profitable for the ranch?
In the 15 years or so since I've been going they've only allowed nymphing a few times. It's definitely a rarity and anyone who goes there should always expect dry fly exclusively. But when they do allow it... I'm all in! 😅
I enjoyed this. As a retired teacher, I know the importance of personal/mental health days. No better medicine than reel (and rod) therapy!
Absolutely. As a FIRST year teacher, I certainly needed it. 😅 Glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice work those are fun to catch
They're not big but yeah... still a ton of fun to hook into! Thanks for watching!
I was fishing that river had a great time
I’ve fished HC below the ranch at the geologic site and it’s beautiful there. The ranch looks equally pretty! It’s nice that they sometimes allow subsurface fishing. I’ll be fishing at the ranch in November and looking forward to the reputed dry fly only restriction. Thanks for the video and giving me something to look forward to! 🙂
Hope you enjoy your Hot Creek trip this November and thanks so much for watching!
Really amazing fishery at one of my favorite places in California, Long Valley Caldera.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip!
I would love to see more of these kinds of videos. Looks like fun!
Looks awesome! I'm heading there next time I'm in Branson!
Awesome video mate.
Thanks! Stay tuned for more!
Nice fish! What flies and sizes did you catch them on?
Because we were allowed to nymph I used a large top stonefly for weight pretty much exclusively. On the bottom, I caught a couple on the JDJ (John Deere Jig) size 14 and some with a bead head prince nymph size 16, and then a little flashy green scud about size 18.
@@jdjflyfishingadventures Thanks for sharing. I've been on ranch a few times and have salivated at the prospects of using nymphs.
Some impressive fish. Good work!
It was wonderful meeting you ten days ago, Todd. You caught some excellent fish. Contact Kevin. I am skipping my reservation this weekend.
You as well, sir! And I would love to take your spot but once a year at HCR is about it for my budget. Thank you! Hope you're doing well.
One of these days I'll be there! Thanks for this!
I thot the Ranch’s private water was dry fly only. Do they allow streamer fishing under certain conditions?
Yes, during certain situations they do allow nymphing. Because of the massive snow and runoff this year, the water was high and fast. Due to that, they allowed patrons to fish with nymphing rigs. It's rare, but it does happen every once in a blue moon.
Want to be there so bad!
Beautiful stream. Beautiful fish!
Wow. Never seen the water that high. Hot Creek never disappoints and neither does a JDJ!
Very nice
Thanks! It's a special place.
May I ask what lake this is? Thank you in advance
I'll say if you live in South Lake Tahoe you'll know this little lake.
Great fish!
Thanks! It's amazing the size of the fish in the tiny lake. Blows my mind whenever I catch a fatty.
Wrap the line around your reel then hook it to the guide. When you get to where you are going just unwrap it from around the reel and you are off to the races. I dont miss the hook holders at all.
Thanks! I've found just hooking it on the first guide has been reliable. Not as convenient as the hook holder, but it works good enough. Thanks for the tip!
Looks great! I miss Missouri fishing.
he said.."mk..I shall make my OWN fishing pole out of this here branch right here!"
I think you're right.
I love that place. Maybe I will see you at opening!
Agreed! Been there a couple of times and it was great!
Nice brown!
Thanks!
I'd really like to know where that lake is.
Why is he doing he’s so cute 🥰
She loves rubbing her face in the snow.
🤣🤣😍🤭
That looks awesome!
Fun video!
