Is it worth buying
It’s been worth it for me.
I still got Dinosaurs for hire with the rest of my sega stuff! That game was so good.
@@Ryuu0u Heck yeah!
Blades of Vengeance is a lot of fun! Don’t know why someone would say it’s just a generic hack n slash…who cares?! It’s fun! Great list. I wonder if Jewel Master suffered back in the day because of the cover art. I have seen it around a few times and never grabbed it because of that reason.
Oh good point! Yeah looking just at the cover, you couldn’t really tell what the game is like. Blades is a really solid game for sure. Thanks for watching man!
Excellent choices. I always get Elemental Master and Jewel Master mixed up, so it's funny that you covered them both.
Yeah that is funny. Both good games too. Thanks for watching
These look like some pretty solid games here 😊 great video!
@@RetroGamerKnee thanks for watching!
Great haul! Some interesting Sega stuff ;)
Thanks man!
Elemental master is a fabulous shooter. Technosoft were masters of shoot em ups on the megadrive. They really knew how to bring out the best of the sound chip too.
Well said. Thanks for watching.
So, I hop off our Zoom call and what do I do? I get in my bed and watch the newest Poor Man’s video. 😂
Well I appreciate that! 😆
Ive been looking into blades of vengeance(who doesn't love babes in barbaric days?). Short games has been my jam lately. I recommend Spin Master on any modern console for 8 bucks! Its a neo geo game that is worth more than my house, lol.
It's a great game and your 100% right on that lol. Thanks for watching
Damn that game looks so freakin sick! The genesis has some awesome looking shooters
Dude! It's awesome and totally worth checking out. Thanks for watching
I always confuse Dinosaurs For Hire with Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. Excellent picks!
I could see how that happens lol. Thanks for watching brother!
Both games had comic book properties, as well, if I recall. I know that Dinosaurs For Hire was under the Malibu/Eternity imprint, because I used to see ads for it in the back of my Robotech comics in the early '90s.
Those look like some fun genesis games! I've never heard of any of them. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Please MUSHA gets more than enough love. It's a $500 game loose....
Thanks for watching
Everyone should play El Viento. 😀👍🎮
That’s on my list to cover at some point. I just need to spend more time with it. Great mention! Thanks for watching!
@ThePoorMansRetroGameRoom your welcome. 😀👍🎮
i really liked Blades of Vengeance growing up because i viewed it like it was a different take on the same type of concept as Golden Axe, and sadly that's also the reason why I mostly only played it in 2 player mode with my brothers. Let me tell you, the 2 player mode in that game is something that you can either view as a massive challenge or just very much unfinished lol, it has a lot of issues! and so it wasn't until one day when i was the only sibling at home that i finally played it in single player and finally got past the 2nd stage as well as beat the game entirely. solid game. the game that i'd say is the most criminally underappreciated on the Genesis is Cyborg Justice, it was so much fun in both the duel mode and the story mode with so many fun and innovative mechanics, the only downside it had was that the stages in the story mode were mostly just pallette swaps, but it was still a game that provided so many days' worth of fun with my brothers.
Excellent post my friend! Man I’m going to have to try Cyborg Justice now! I’ll be checking it out. Thanks for the suggestion. Thanks for watching
Great list indeed. Your subscriber growth is going great. Congratulations
Thanks brother!
Absolutely excellent choices Joel. I've made it a point to try every Sega Genesis game at least once. Actually prefer shorter games as I'm 43 and don't have countless hours to dedicate to a specific game, with minor exceptions anyway. More of a MAME guy. Hope you had a beautiful Thanksgiving with family and friends.
Thanks for the post! I had a great Thanksgiving and I hope you did as well. MAME absolutely rocks. Thanks for watching!
Elemental Master and Blades of Vengeance are both on my list of games to acquire. Purchased a repro cart and case for MUSHA. Have 1cc'd it several times. Top notch music, game design and graphics. My only knock on MUSHA is that I think the default setting is a bit easy to plow through once have a full weapon upgrade. Need to beat on hard.
Yeah you won’t be disappointed in either! I agree that MUSHA isn’t as difficult as I had heard. Man it’s an amazing game. I might have to go the repro route as well. Thanks for the comment!
Oh man, I've heard really good things about Lunar! Have fun playing and happy hoiidays!
Thanks brother! Happy Holidays!
Christmas came early I see , Ho Ho HO !!
Indeed! Thanks for watching brother
Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, NHLPA and Madden '92 (Genesis)..though those EA sports games nearly ruined gaming for me..for years it was basically football and hockey only, most other games were obsolete to me..Borderlands 2 got me back into gaming.
Great list! Boarderlands 2 is a great game. Sports games were such a big part of gaming back in the day. Thanks for watching
What music is playing at 33:49? Sounds awesome!
It’s the ost to Cannon Fodder.
Thanks man!
@ you bet! 👍
I like the new space! That Jaguar collection is always impressive to see.
Thanks for watching brother!
Great pick ups dude! Love me some Sega Genesis!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Nice video man. I fucking love your room setup. I like how you've got the games going in demo mode while you talk.
Hey thanks! Thanks for watching!
Top pickups - lunar silver story is amazing - I have the psp version and love it
Awesome man! Thanks for watching!
Saw the thumbnail with Lunar. Had to follow and say congrats! Had it as a kid but either was traded in or sold. Found it and Lunar 2 at a HBP both fully complete and will forever remain my "holy grail" pickup.
Thanks! That’s awesome that you were able to recollect it. Thanks for watching!
"If you're watching this channel, you don't need that." 😂.
I think you might have to change the channel name to the Middle Class Man's Retro Game Room because of the spicier priced pickups in the video lol. Just having some fun with you Joel.
😆 you may be right. There was some pretty spicy pickups compared to most of mine. Thanks for watching man!
Joel I miss the days when games were packed with extras like maps, soundtracks and art books. I’m so impressed with the cloth map included with Lunar. Great pick ups my friend!
Thanks man! So do I. Now days you’re luck to get any thing other than a code.
That was a very nice find on Lunar ❤
Yeah I have never played any of the Lunar games so I’m pretty excited to jump in.
Incredible Genesis carts!
Thank you!
May as well start with the overlap... Gun Nac: After getting used to Blazing Lazers, experiencing Gun Nac and its weapon advancement method was like finding your best friends older best friend. Not quite what you came to appreciate, but, you see so much of what you appreciated in them that you can't help but want to spend more time with them. Space Megaforce: This was like finding Blazing Lazers younger, hot sister that won't go out with you, but will take you out for an amazing time on the town. That each weapon has dual firing modes, and that the "screen laser" was turned into a valid weapon (Blazing Lazers major laser weapon had no collision. Merely adding collision in SMF, as well as its toggle mode being homing, made it AMAZING without it feeling like you were using a cheat code like Blazing Lazers screen filling lazer attack had) Empire of Steel: Okay, starting to feel guilty by this one, as I'm not one for shooters normally, but, the presentation with the old-timey cinema flicker during cut scenes, and the choice between two ships (as well as a "shoot left, shoot right" mechanic similar to Side Arms on the TG16/PCE) made it immediately endearing. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood: I felt immediate regret about not playing this in the past (specfically PCE version, not Dracula X,) as before I started playing it, I'd finally figured out how to beat Dracula in the opening, and start with max stats, and immediately after firing up this game, watching the cutscenes in English, playing as Richter in the game that was used as the base game for SotN, ETC, it felt like finding your old comfy blanket in the back of your closet and tossed it on your bed for the first time in years. Contra: Shattered Soldier: This PS2 game shocked me that I hadn't heard of Contra fans talking about it before when I fired it up. It nearly perfectly captured what made Contra special through the 8 and 16 bit era, without the baggage of trying to be special and top down or some tripe. It uses a 3D engine, but you only worry about the 2D space along your character's plane of action. Well worth a shot, I first experienced this when my buddy brought his PS3 over and he had it from the online store.
Awesome list! Man I never hear anyone mention Contra: Shattered Soldier. Steel Empire has a lot of charm. Everything on your list is a heavy hitter.
One game in, and your fresh nostalgia matches up with one of mine. Gun Nac feels like the predecessor to Blazing Lazers, which in turn felt like the predecessor to Space Megaforce. I still remember the day my buddy exposed me to Blazing Lazers, and between that, and G-Darius, something started to finally click in my head for the genre. Trying out Gun Nac was like re-visiting the high school birthday party where I first saw Mortal Kombat (the movie) Edit: Glanced ahead, and had to giggle that #3 also overlapped with me. The amount of immediate regret I had for ignoring the Turrican series before would have crushed me if not for the realization that I had whole new experiences to witness with the series. Same edit, different aspect: (Yeah, you may have the GBA Castlevania games as your prior nostalgia, I haven't gotten that far yet,) I've loved SotN since its release, still have my original disc. If you want a chance for fresh nostalgia for your fresh nostalgia, look into the GBA Castlevania games, more specifically Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow. Circle of the Moon is similar, but the systems vary enough that it would be more a side trip
Excellent post. Gun-Nac is so good and I agree it feels like a predecessor to Blazing Lasers. I was the same way with the Turrican series, especially the 16 bit versions. Thanks for the great comments!
I have to say, I appreciate that they included V-5 on the cartridge, because I really like its Gradius style advancement system. I effectively love that the NA release would be as though Salamander and Gradius were released on the same cart.
Dude that’s good information! Thanks for the post and for watching!
That sky shark sounds familiar. Never heard of star Voyager. I'll have to check that out. Nice gifts from your buddy. That was nice of him to send you them. I like to call into the local gaming and porn shops too. Mainly it had been for dvds and blurays, but i bought an og gameboy last week and started buying games and have found a few good ones in our local cex store. Found some good ones on ebay too. Doom fusion! Noice! I never got to play doom on the 32X unfortunately. I have seen some gameplay in the past though.
Yeah man it good to check those pawn shops. You never know what they are going to get in. Sky Shark is pretty good vertically scrolling shooter. I’m so pumped to have doom fusion. Thanks for watching!
Sega Lord X is such a great channel. I love his content.
@@modernretrorenaissance2520 I agree! Him and game sack are the best!
Great pick ups!!
Thanks 🙏
Great setup! A very nice gaming room; cheers 🍻
Hey thanks! Thanks for watching
I love Genesis shooters. My favorite is Eliminate Down, Was considering reserving the Toaplan vol 2 release which incudes Grind Stormer, Twin Cobra and slap fight
I need to try Eliminate Down! Thanks for watching!
@ Eliminate Down is awesome on all fronts. It’s tough as hell but so well designed it keeps you playing. I played it daily for 3 months and came seconds away from a no death run.
@zajicapp oh nice! I don’t mind hard games as long as they are fun
I really need to spend some time with Slap Fight. It had been on the back of my mind for years after seeing it in arcades as a young buck, with its modular ship being so memorable that it was hard for me to not see it being used more often (making the ship larger as you add more firepower.) Again, one of those games I'd probably want to spend time looking into details of before I do a serious run, as I've read that due to its Gradius style advancement, the levels actually lend themselves by design to selecting a certain weapon type, and, as a person who started gaining appreciation for shooters from Blazing Lazers, the idea I couldn't just use one preferred load-out just felt wrong. (I've expanded since then, but, well, still have a long ways to go as the shooters I love could easily be described as baby by those who took more readily to the genre.)
@ I’ve heard of slap fight and it sounds amazing. More excellent info!
Man, it’s awesome to see fellow fans of the Jag! It can be rather lonely loving and collecting for such an obscure and rare system. And the amount of hate the system gets is ridiculous. I doubt the majority of people being negative about it have even touch the controller. I respect people’s opinions and understand if someone genuinely doesn’t care for the system, but most people just parrot AVGN with the same stale talking points without ever actually giving it a chance. That’s why I’m so glad to see more people making more positive content about it. It’s by far my favorite system to collect for (my wallet hurts….) and is an awesome showpiece for people unfamiliar with it. Ive thoroughly enjoyed each of your Jag videos and look forward to any other ones you happen to make in the future!
I couldn’t agree with you more! There are so many that try to reproduce the AVGN’s take on but have never spent any time with the system. Thanks for watching and for the thoughtful post.
I haven’t played this one yet and I do dig the genre. I’m assuming this plays fine on an EverDrive, right?
Yeah it plays great on the Everdrive! Let me know your thoughts after you try it. Thanks for watching!
I'm not overly keen on this genre of games either. I'd play some in the arcade every now and then if the other arcade machines were taken, but i wouldn't play these types of games on a console.
I hear ya. Thanks for watching!
Top Game This ☘️
@@gullpayne Thanks for watching!
The graphics look great, I’m impressed with the detailed backgrounds. Must is spot on as well.
Yeah it’s a good one for sure! Thanks for watching man!
The arcade version is available on the Astro City Mini V, the alternative V-V game type is available in the options & is my preferred version, it changes the power up system.
Man I need to check out the Astro City Mini V then. Thanks for the info! Nice!
@ there is lag unfortunately otherwise it would be a gem of a device given the games list
Thanks for the heads up
