I think unavailability for bilaterals is majorly a problem for players not belonging to the Big 3 (Ind, Aus and Eng). The only solution I can think of is creating a robust group of 35-40 players, by giving them enough international experience, so in case your "big name superstars" aren't available they can play instead. (Eg. Rickelton playing in place of de Kock, Brevis playing in place of Markram etc)

I think that franchise cricket basically will overtake bilateral series, one may say that we love watchings odi's and tests but honestly they even watch it after like 1 hour in it, and also its profitable only for big 3(ind aus and eng) to play these formats. so I think its gonna be like football by the end of this decade, where players will play t20 leagues all around the worlds and assemble for icc tournaments only. But the biggest issue with this is big money making BCCI, they won't and definitely allow there big players to play in other leagues instead of India, and we all know how much power they have in decision making of ICC. So, I think its BBCI like it or not which will decide the fate of cricket
