It was that way in my home growing up, and I think I ended up with a collection of about 25 comics when I left home. I cherished those comics. I read them over and over again until their stories were etched in my mind for decades come and gone. I go on a lot about "covers", because I stood in stores looking at the racks of comics, staring at those covers, being moved by them, imagining their stories.

I really love when the Vietnam stuff between Snake Eyes, Stalker and Storm Shadow is featured, you can really tell that it resonates deeply with Larry Hama, and his own Vietnam experiences. Obviously that backstory is fleshed out as the series goes on. It's poignant to me.
I'm very anxious to see where it goes. You can tell there's something more to the story, especially with this Wade fellow now introduced, but I have no idea where it goes. Thank you for sharing your feelings about this story arc. I always love to hear how these classic comics resonated with the fans.
As a kid, I was very disappointed that issue 43 didn't have a real Grim Reaper shooting people with an m-60! It is metaphorical. I don't think that is a spoiler warning- GIJoe doesn't turn into Castlevania. As much as 4th grade me would have thought awesome.
I kinda thought I wouldn't be seeing any "living skeletons" (that expression always makes me laugh, but was used in comics quite frequently, lol). Funny you should mention Castlevania, though, as we'll be starting to play through the Lords of Shadow trilogy beginning this coming Devil's Night if you're interested. We'll get our "living skeletons" around here one way or the other, lol.
@@HellCatRedux Yeah, as an adult, you wouldn't expect that. As far as Castlevania- I love me the classic NES and Symphony of the Night. I'm more a 2D Castlevania guy. I do remember playing and enjoying one or two of the 3D ones- that might be one of them. I may check it out.

@@HellCatRedux Yeah, if it is the game I think it is, it's pretty cool. I'll have to keep an eye out- especially if you get to the 2D ones. Also- just a suggestion, add a little something at the end about something you might have liked or been surprised about for the issue. It's cool to get someone's reactions. And the next 15 issues or so, there will be a lot happening. Some epic moments coming up. A very EPIC cover. I'm sure your fans wouldn't mind hearing a little more about your thoughts about the upcoming issues. It doesn't have to be much. Anyway, my 2 cents. Oh, also- after issue 50 GIJoe gets another series- Special missions. Usually one and done stories, but a few times they directly crossover with the main series. 61, 6., 62 for example. I think you've been warned about it already...but if not. You are now.

Great episode. I had to look up Karanthes, as his name sounded familiar. Here’s what I found. He seems to be an adaptation of Kalanthes of Hanumar, priest of Ibis, mentioned in The God in the Bowl. A different Karanthes is also in Conan The Barbarian: The Horn of Azoth. Based on an early script of Conan The Destroyer. Love it when these comics get my inner geek mind going. ⚔️

Thank you so much- Barry Smith really came into his own in issues 19-24, his art really matured and I think along with his Red Nails in Savage Tales this was his best Conan work

@@HellCatRedux In my opinion, the writing and development become increasingly and noticably better for quite awhile. If you're experiencing this title for the first time, there's some very good stuff coming! It's exciting to imagine a 1st time reader see the progression of this comic and how Larry handled some difficult Hasbro directives for characters.
@@auntjefff This absolutely is my first time reading this title. I was very familiar with the animated TV series but had no idea what the comic book offering looked like, nor anything about it. I thank you for sharing your knowledge of this run, and I'm really looking forward to reading it all.
Another great reading. Most of these comics were adaptations of Howard’s non-Conan stories. Rewritten into Conan tales. After reading them, I’d write the name of the original, do a search of what books they appeared in, and look for them at used book stores.

You can get pretty much all of them in the Del Rey editions of Sword Woman, El Borak, and the Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard.

I absolutely will. I'm already having Dracula withdrawals just thinking about finishing the Tomb of Dracula, so I'll be doing any (worthy) Dracula material I can find as soon as this run is over. Been a huge fan of the gi joe real american hero line since the beginning!!! Have just about all of the comics up thru 130 or so! And I believe Dr.Burkhardt gets in trouble and very similar storyline in issue #38 or so!

Back in the 90s, it took me forever to find the original Howard story of this adaptation. Found it in the Echoes of Valor 3 anthology. It became one of my favorite non-Conan Howard stories. Sonja is spelt differently, Sonya. Found it interesting they had Conan saying her name with that spelling. A nod to the original story. You can also find it in the Del Rey Books edition of Sword Woman and Other Historical Adventures. Thanks again for these readings. On with the next one. ⚔️

I want to thank you for the reading of these Conan comic books. I collected them back when I was a kid.That was the best time of my life.I sold them for a dum reason.I'm 61 years old now and this takes me back.Thank for that.Respect to you. Peace.

The art really shone in this one. I know he gets better as he goes, but it makes me wonder did he put in the extra effort because he liked the story or maybe just had a little extra time? Im glad I stumbled upon your channel, so many great comics I havent had the chance to read, and delightfully read of course.
And that's what I love about reading comic books. No matter how often we read them, there are still (and always will be) more questions left unanswered. lol, yes he is wordy. I've been realizing that almost all of the runs I've chosen to do are done by wordy writers. I guess this was (subconsciously) a favorite trait of mine. It makes me very happy that this has brought back fond memories for you, and I thank you for stopping by to share that.
My first GI Joe comic, thank you. Lara Hama is great with the characterizations and keeping the action moving. I recently started rereading his Wolverine run from when I was a teen and its a fun and exciting read.

Agreed. I only knew G.I. JOE from the animated series, but had always heard the comic book was "way different". That's what started me on this. I wanted to know how it was so different. I'm loving this adventure so far, and I have no idea what comes next. Thanks for stopping by!

My older brother use to read the Conan novels in the Sixties.When the comics your reading came out he collected them all,that's how I got into the barbarian.Thanks for bringing me back.

Loved these as a kid. Watching BWS improve with each issues was fun.
These have been a lot of fun for me. I'm more often than not left with the sense of, "Who's the real barbarian here?", and I'm sure that's intentional. Very thought-provoking, as comics always have been. That's why I love them so. Thank you very much for stopping by with a comment.
