Have you ever encountered any kind of danger or animal attacks while camping in the mountains before? What about engine issues? I'm planning to go fly camping sometimes this winter, and I'm new to flying. I've only been flying for just over 6 months now. My worst nightmare would be engine failure and getting stuck far away from civilization. What are your suggestions and advise?
@@JrFarren_ I have never had any animal attacks. Every time I’ve ran into an animal they are always a lot more afraid of me. But I do always fly with a firearm when I’m fly camping in the backcountry just in case. The risk of engine issues is always there, and that’s just something you have to accept. Honestly knowing that there is a risk I could get stranded and have to hike out makes the whole adventure more fun for me personally. That’s why I don’t even bother going fly camping where a rescue would be easy…it takes the sense of adventure out of it. But one thing I do to help prevent the risk of engine issue is, meticulously care for my paramotor. I keep up on all the maintenance, I do a throughly pre-flight and post-flight check every time I fly, and once I get over 150ish hrs on a motor I retire it from flying into the backcountry. I also always carry enough food and water for several days just in case something happens and I bring a solar charger with me so that I can keep my electronics charged so that my emergency contacts can see where I’m at and I can also send a message out if need be. There’s certainly risk to it, but with proper planning and gear you can minimize the risk. But nothing brings more satisfaction than pulling off a successful, safe fly camping mission in the backcountry!

Ok, I have to ask, how you are not scared of bears? 😂 North Idaho back county is no joke, and when you were cooking the meat, it was almost a thriller.
@@sherayahauck768 haha every time I’ve ran into a bear they’re more afraid of me that I am of them. I always have a gun on me just in case tho lol

I just watched while car camping at Cedar Valley Airport, hoping to catch my first solo flight this weekend… this was the perfect inspiration! Also just picked up a REI ReSupply ultralight pad for fly camping… getting ever so close to hearing these ASMR sounds in person!

Awesome video but I do prefer the narration. I feel like I learn something when you walk thru your videos that I can incorporate into my flying.

Brilliant take off camera work. I love the cut from running at take off to the wing camera angle which makes it so you can grab the camera and only launch once. I love it. Every camera angle was well thought out.
I appreciate you noticing that haha it was a lot of extra work to load everything on my back and do a fake takeoff just for that shot. Thanks for the feedback man!

For this video I was use the wireless Dji mic 2. I also use the rode ntg
@@coltenwenger that's awesome. I've been thinking of picking up the dji mic 2. Do you like it? Have you tried the noise cancellation on it while flying? I've heard it's actually decent on a motorcycle.
@AlexLinebrink I have used it while flying and for paragliding it’s awesome but with paramotoring it’s not ideal. I use the nvolo helmets connected to a GoPro for my in flight audio.

But i noticed i didn't get a notification just now when i saw your vid in my feed. Went to turn notifications for your channel on but it says it's disabled for videos for kids. What gives? Is this a mistake on TH-cam's part, did you not know or is this intentional?
@@darkxxhimxxlight thanks man, yeah unfortunately it’s something on TH-cam’s end. I’ve had so many people tell me this issue, and I have subscriber notifications turn on but it still doesn’t work. I’ve fought it from the beginning but no luck.
@@coltenwenger "Made for kids" is the worst YT feature ever for sentient adults. It's responsible for this as well as problems with saving to playlists, Watch Later, and even disables mini player on the phone apps. Never check "made for kids" when uploading, and could be some settings on your channel too. "Made for kids" really means "this is child-exclusive content that should be visible to children when TH-cam is set up for kids-only access". Excellent video by the way, and an enviable night out. Dang that’s so cool! I just started flying paramotors this last spring. Watching your videos is what made me take the leap to commit to training and buying gear. Unfortunately I live in the plains of North Dakota so no mountain camping here! But one day I would love to travel and try it out!

I think that sleeping next to the engine is not the best idea, even if you are separated with the tent. Some chemicals has no smell and still very toxic. Keep it ventilated. Stay safe.
