White to Dark Peak Way | Peak District | Solo Hike & Camp
The White to Dark Peak way is a 27 and a half mile through hike, starting at Bakewell in the White Peak and Ending at the Civil Parish of Hope in Derbyshire.
The hike is designed to promote and showcase the beauty of the Peak District in all its glory
Join me as i ramble through misty meadows, take on heards of cattle, climb granite edges and take unexpected detours across scree covered hills to complete what should have been a 3 day hike in just under 24 hours.
This scenic trail is IDEAL for novice hikers, with very little incline (relatively), i'd say this trail is do-able in 24hours, total hike time is said to be 14 and a half hours, so of your superman, get on this gorgeous hike, deets below:
BAKEWELL to LITTON:
distance - 11.2km/ 7 miles
time - 4 hours.
LITTON to HATHERSAGE:
distance - 15km/ 9.5 miles
time - 5 hours
HATHERSAGE to HOPE:
distance - 17.7km/ 11 miles
time - 5.5 hours
MONSAL TRAIL info: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsal_Trail
The Monsal Trail is a cycling, horse riding and walking trail in the Derbyshire Peak District. It was constructed from a section of the former Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midland Junction Railway, which was built by the Midland Railway in 1863 to link Manchester with London and closed in 1968. The Monsal Trail is about 8.5 miles (13.7 km) long and opened in 1981. It starts at the Topley Pike junction in Wye Dale, 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Buxton, and runs to Coombs Viaduct, 1 mile (1.6 km) south-east of Bakewell. It follows the valley of the River Wye. The trail passes through Blackwell Mill, Chee Dale, Millers Dale, Cressbrook, Monsal Dale, Great Longstone, Hassop and Bakewell. The trail has numerous landmarks including Headstone Viaduct, Cressbrook Mill, Litton Mill and Hassop railway station, and passes through six tunnels.
It is a major part of the as yet incomplete White Peak Loop and is designated as National Cycle Route 680.

This guy sets up a tent in his back yard to review it.
@@dsmith9572 your observational skills are on point pal 👌
10:39 Yes! I just received this thing today and I guess its because they want it cheaply made in China and sell it for premium price.. ouch if I knew this I would've never bought it. It's probably poisoning us too. Good review mate!
But a better question how's the tent ?
cracking tent, I'd buy one, for winter, but worried the bigger footprint would restrict pitch locations
@@GH02-o_o I mean it has for me in the past when i've been up in the lake district but then, you just look round and find a bigger spot, no great issue
@@Danny37Outdoors true but Kinder Scout and other areas are more restrictive …horses for courses
@@GH02-o_o Not in the slightest mate, KinderScout is literally my local haha, i'm always up the Woolpacks/Kinder Downfall (just to name a couple) in this tent, plenty of space up there
@@GH02-o_o Infact, check out my solowildcamp posted lastmonth from kinder (theres also one from Kinder Downfall)
@@Danny37Outdoors will do mate, thanks 👍
Nice little bivvy if camping hiking on the move.looks slick af
so it great tent but after 6 weekends my poles broke in this weeks 70 mph winds i have small tent of the same brand it better lighter and it be in the same winds half the weight had 5 years but this one was purchased in sept before the poles broke but it still great tent for space
@@andrease2320 yeah thats one thing i can say, i use this tent all the time and love it, but never tested it in anything above 30mph
Wye not 👌

@@johangouws2077 Been using it alot, even on Family camping hols. I love it
Its a nice tent, but I'm thinking of selling mine. Its unused even though I've had it 12 months, I pitched it in a local park to look at and could not decide if I could live with the really crappy quality inner. I've got £100 tents that have better made inners, even though the outer is great there is no excuse for the badly fitting inner or the low quality finish. I want to like it but I just don't know.
@@Chris66able there's absolutelynothing crappy about the inner, compares to other tents, its absolutely top notch material, if you're unhappy with it o'd suggest contacting terra nova to explain your situation, as i can guarantee you the one i've got is 100% quality and worth every penny. Theres nothing low quality about the inner or the outer!
@@Danny37Outdoors For a start its badly fitted, and is well known for being saggy.
@@Chris66able As i said... think you need to contact Terra Nova Customer Services as mines absolutely bang on, sure your not just not tightening the corner straps (which you need to do each pitch?)
No Mate, its a well known fault on the SC2, I've been camping for over 40 yrs, My Mrs keeps offering to put a few stitches in it. Maybe yours has been from an updated batch were they have addressed the issue. Meanwhile I'll just sit here moaning about it because I'm of my kite on pain killers and fed up. No harm meant, nothing personal to you, I just feel like moaning at someone at the moment.
@@Chris66able Haha ahhh mate im out camping with my two kids and the dog at the mo, my 6 year old girls stressing me out too 🤣
Hi mate, during your research did you look at nortent vern 1? If so, what made you go with this instead?
@@callisallen9358 Hey Callis, i actually looked at the Nortent Vern2 (as i lile the space hense not bagging a 'hiking tent' like the xmid etc (i do have a Lanshan 2 anyway), however i saw every other youtuber jumping on the Nortent hype, that aside, Terra Nova are actually based near me so a key factor was the 'customer support'... which imo is second to non (Alpkit probably match Terra Nova in terms of support), maybe 2 weeks later... i saw an influx in people auctioning off their Nortent Vern2's and complaining about verious aspects so im really glad/happy i went with the Southern Cross 2, its served me well.
@@Danny37Outdoors thanks mate
Nice one mate first time I’ve had someone do a reaction video 😊 cheers
No probs mate, looks epic 👌
❤
Yes sweetheart..im taking my daughter camping for first time at weekend so that'll be fun.ive subbed mate cheers
Legend mate appreciate it
I was up kinder last Friday night. I’ve never seen it so many tents. I hope everyone practices L,N,T. It was a cracking night, summers been shite weather wise.
@@BurtReynoldstash Yeah mate it was a lovely night, i was literally just saying the same to my mate, i wonder what Kinder Low and the far side looked like for tents... i'd imagine the same
@@Danny37Outdoors there were possibly over ten tents at crowden tower. OS map out, next camp for a quieter spot. Please everyone practice L,N,T in wild places.
Amazing filming and storytelling man! Brilliant cinematography 👏👏
@@ervinslens Cheers bro, appreciate it ❤️
The problem with this tent is the second vestibule is pointless for 1 man, it's a waste of weight. What Terra Nova should be making is a Southern Cross 1 PLUS, a southern cross 1 that's about 20-25% bigger. It wouldn't need to weigh more than 15-20% more because it wouldnt need extra pegs, a second vestibule, extra zips or anything. Just longer poles and a bit more fabric. It would still weigh less than the Hillerburg Soulo and the Vern 1 (the latter being far inferior to anything Terra Nova make by all accounts). The Southern Cross 2 is overkill for 1 man backpacking, the Southern Cross 1 needs more room. Problem solved. Questions comments concerns? Lol
You are %100 on the nail here, not just for this tent but most premium tents, they all seem to be made for people under 5ft 2 " with 20kg back packs.
😂😂😂😂💔💔💔💔🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻
I hope you enjoy it, mate.
It pulls too easy, and it ends up with pulls in the material. The material ends up like tissue paper eventually and rips very easily. I've had the SC 1, and friends have had the SC 2.
@@davegalloway7531 mines been absolutely spot on, no issues at all so far, but will keep an eye on it, cheers
Great tent. Just the poor quality inner fly that spoils it.
@@davegalloway7531 The inneer fly is absolute spot on mate, what is it you don't like about it?
I've had my CS2 for a while and mine is spot on too, however I would prefer the inner in a different colour.
Nicely done! Brings back great memories from last year!
thats gonna give me nightmares!! 😅

Great job Dan Weather looks fantastic there bud , hope you packed your suncream 🤙🏕️
🤣 weather was so up and down i almost bailed at the petrol station... but it was sunny and gorgeous one end... p*ssing it down at Scafell. Cheers mate
@@Danny37Outdoors last camp I did it was a yellow weather warning ⚠️ But had planned all my time off so just went with it , luckily we had perfect conditions
Nice one Danny 👍

Fair play mate, weather was pish today
Real
'Source' bladders are the only ones I've used which don't give an aftertaste to the water
Fantastic video Danny Hope your hay fever gets better bud I also use the atmos AG 65 it’s a cracking back , Although it’s heavy to start with, also got the Exos 48 which is more than half the weight of the atmos but it doesn’t feel as comfortable on the back ,
Cheers mate, yeah the hayfevers destrooooying me this year, popping Citirizines and Lorotodines like M&Ms 🤣, could do with the injection really but they only do it on Private now for £85 this is why i prefer an Autumn/ Winter camp. I was looking at the Exos, i wasn't sure whether id get everything in it, i had the AG50 and sold it for a little more space. I think my next buy will be the RAB Ascent 900,
@@Danny37Outdoors mate have a look at quilts I’ve got the enlightened equipment revelation It’s a minus 12 quilt that weighs in at under 800g and packs down tiny ,
Also.... PLEASE let me know if the new mic is any good, whats the sound quality like???
I'm out in my local woods now, christening my Southern Cross 2. Ridiculously easy to pitch, bags of room for one, loads of great features, top quality materials and construction, and, quite frankly, a thing of beauty. My last tent was a low-roof, narrow stealth job; little more than a fabric coffin really. The Southern Cross 2 weighs 300g less and is positively palatial by comparison. I'm chuffed to bits with it.
For me, doesn't get much better mate, and not just that but the lifetime Terra Nova guarantee on customer support comes in too 👌 Im in the Lake District in mine next weekend and i cant wait to take it, Enjoy the camp ⛺️🔥
Yeah
I really want this tent, I went super lightweight and bought a coffin tent, totally regret it and it wasn't much cheaper than this beaut, hindsight is a wonderful thing 😭🙄
My mate did exactly the same, he bought the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 and completely regreted not being able to move around as he got changed or dressed etc. The Souther Cross 2 is ideal, i won't be looking for another tent anytime soon. Could you sell yours on Facebook Marketplace maybe and use that towards one of these?
Hey what kind is it my quails colours a identicle
Simply stunning bud and the music at the inversion part was a great choice, there’s something magical about a cloud inversion, Some of them dehydrated meals are proper rank , especially the prices that they charge for them Great video bud , Fantastic views 🤙🤙🏕️
Cheers mate really appreciate it, yeah the inversion was immense, my mate called me out my tent at 6am(ish) so i didn't miss it 😂, give it another watch when TH-cam pulls its finger out and formats it in 4k, took ages to find that music and apply it, nothing would download 🤣. Would love a Cloud Inversion up one of the higher peaks sometime. Hoping to bag one at the end of this month in the Lakes 🤞. Yeah i agree, i think the nicest i've ever had has been the Bolognaise from Summit to Eat... the Firepot ones are rank for sure
Please post updates after you have been out in it a few times. I'm wondering if it gets too hot in the summer months. In Western Australia we don't get high winds and snow together so our 4th season is really a 3+ except perhaps mid winter in the "high" Stirling Ranges. I'm also keen to know if it's truly a 2P tent with gear and sleeping kits. Thank for this review it looks like you have the latest version of this tent.
Hey Brad, yeah will do mate, i can tell you for sure you'll get two mats in and the vestebule/porch areas are 100% big enough for your kit and a partners kit eitherside. I've had it out once but it didnt get much of a test, hoping to put it through its paces later in the year, it's suppose to be a true 4 season tent due to the specs/ outer fly comes all the way to the floor and plenty of ventilation etc and with the added options for the doors etc but yeah ill keep you posted mate
@@Danny37Outdoors Yes my only concern is adequate ventilation in summer months. I’m looking for a one-tent solution. This might be overkill in Western Australia but I do like the option for winter use albeit our winter is not as extreme in the UK.
Great video bud , my atmos hasn’t started the dreaded squeak yet 😂😂 How did the tent perform?? Looked like a fortress All the best Dan
Cheers mate 👌 Yeah the tent is immense mate i love it, it didn't get much of a test lile as there was minimal wind and no rain... i want to try it out in the winter really, and yeah the Atmos is a decent bag, i think i'd just pulled one of the straps too tight while walking, looked a little wonky when i took it off
Absolutely amazing presentation man! This looks and feels amazing!
Cheers mate :)
Squeak ! Like the VW advert !
👌🤣
Good tent look at video. I do like this tent
Yeah its an immense tent, had it out and loved it, yet to test it but hoping to soon
