Acids and Bases - Buffer Calculations
This video shows how to answer buffer calculation questions.
It looks at the ICE table method (the most accurate) first, then explains how it is possible to "cheat" and use a simplified method, before looking at the Henderson-Hasselbalch Equation.
At the end of the video there is also a derivation of the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation to show how all of the parameters fit together.

Aldehydes and Ketones: Tollen's Test
มุมมอง 17K3 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a demonstration and explanation of Tollen's test to distinguish between aldehydes and ketones. The experiment featured in this video uses formaldehyde (methanal) and acetone (propanone) to show the result of the Tollen's test on both. There is a brief description of how Tollen's reagent is made and an short explanation of why an aldehyde will show a positive result but a ketone will not.
Burning nitrocellulose (gun cotton)
มุมมอง 3233 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a demonstration of how nitrating cotton can affect its chemical properties. If you have ever burned cotton wool, you will know it burns readily but slowly, and will leave a mess of carbon (unburned material) behind. The reason for this mess is that the oxygen in the air has to meet the cellulose (and other) molecules. The cellulose molecules have to break into their components (carbon, ...
