It gives a short circuit fault, what is the source? Most of our machines have this driver, almost all of them give a short circuit fault but we cannot find the fault. Can you help me please, thank you very much in advance.
The 'SC' fault code could mean either a short circuit or a ground fault. This could be due to damaged motor insulation or wire damage/deterioration. I'd start with checking +testing the motor wiring.
Very simple, informative high value info regarding greasing. ❤
Considering going 3phase for my next model train. (YT search "Train Mountain" for context) I'm not concerned about over heating a slow turning traction motor. My 3/4hp 24v 56c 1800rpm motor has never been hot to the touch, even when producing about 1.25 hp. High load duty cycles are generally fairly short. Questions: 1. Can VFD use remote potentiometer for speed and toggle switch for direction? 2. will VFD produce smooth rotation at low speeds? 3. Can VFD do dynamic braking? How is this energy dissipated? Grid resistor? Using 3 phase has its appeal because: 1. Generation of 120v single phase can be done with compact - quiet inverter generator. 2. wheel slippage can be more easily managed vs DC motor tend to speed up. 3 phase motors are frequency locked (to an extend) to a speed. 3. easier to maintain desired travel speed, as frequency controls speed vs voltage of DC system. Sensing system in VFD can limit torque to prevent overload. 4. If braking is dynamic, and can be shunted to load resistor of sufficient size? Down hill momentum can be easily controlled by turn of dial instead of on-off with DC system. 5. Using motor to hold train still for brief periods vs having to engage mechanical brakes would be a great improvement.
Sounds like you have quite the train set up! Answers to your questions below. (1) Yes (2) Yes, however, low-speed rotation depends on the type of VFD and the motor used (3) Yes, if your VFD has a dynamic braking resistor
Thankyou so much for the knowledge

Hey Keith, Younger brother replaced belt on my air compressor but over tightened belt, said it went on for maybe a minute and over load ripped but now I feel the motor heating up and I got a faint burning smell so I shut it off. Took it apart, visually everything looks ok. Also tested a few things with multimeter, Cap is within uF spec still, its getting sufficiemte voltage at source no drop or anything. What do you think? I have 4 new bearings on way 2 for motor and just gonna replace both in my pump because I noticed the fly wheel having more resistance than before this issue so idk if those could have went too. Im hoping bearings are my issue. Almost forgot ran motor with no load and no issues runs as it should. Appreciate your help/knowledge Great channel btw! Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you did a good job troubleshooting so far. Even though everything visually looks okay and the capacitor tested fine, there still may be an issue based on the overheating and smell. There could be bearing damage from the tightened belt. I'd try spinning the shaft by hand to see if there's any resistance. You could also test the windings if you haven't already. Here's a step by step guide: th-cam.com/video/19zIZ7sTEhQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Mbojtiem8kVRTKSf&t=83.
@ there is quite a bit of resistance but only at a certain point during the rotation That’s what I was wondering about most because I do notice that it was more than before this happened. Will look at your video now and see what I get.
@@_elcaballero If there is resistance while turning the shaft, its probably a bearing issue. Could be damaged bearing races or ball. Or it could be as simple as contaminated lubrication. How does the grease look inside the bearing? Do you notice any debris/sand/grit?
Didn’t show ever step , just say the step number and explained but didn’t show how to do it .
Are you looking for more info on one of these steps? Every furnace and motor will be a little different, so this is a fairly broad guide.
Subtitles would sound better.

COMPANION BALL BEARING A.C. MOTOR TYPE SP H.P. 1/4 110 VOLTS 60 CYC. 4 AMPS. 3450 R.P.M.MODEL 115.5107 M28 Will this work with a VFD or is there something else I can use? I need it to slow down to around 800 to 1000 rpm
Based on the voltage rating, this is a single phase motor and VFDs are primarily used for three phase motors. I'm not familiar with the motor catalogue number that you shared and I couldn't find any details on it online. I'd suggest reaching out to a local supplier and they should be able to assist you. In these cases where speed control is required, our customers often upgrade to a three phase motor.
Great information. I could have really used this last year. I wish I would have checked here first before calling out the HVAC folks. I could have easily done it myself.
Thanks Gary! Give us a call if you ever need a hand.
Baldor was great back in the day but now they are overpriced.
Depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for a budget option, Baldor is not your motor. But, if reliability is important, Baldor is a solid choice. Speaking just on our own numbers, the Baldor's have a lower than average warranty claim-rate and when properly maintained and operated, pretty rare to see issues with these. Thanks for the comment - more content coming soon.
I've noticed some manufacturers like World Wide Electric, have started removing the zerk fittings on motors 10hp and under. Doesn't matter if its TEFC OR ODP. They said people are destroying bearings by over greasing.
I've come across this too from time to time with more than one brand. If there is a grease zerk, you would assume it is a greaseable bearing, but not always. If a motor under 10HP has a grease zerk, never a bad idea to check the manual to confirm.
Very informative. Thanks 😊👍🏾
Thanks Chelsea 👍
Excellent, I have a question if In DC motor, brush holder creating arching/sparking then how to fix it? by rotating the brushes ahead in the direction of rotation or rotating brushes opposite in the direction of rotation? Please advise. Thank you! (Note: although brushes are fine)
Hey Mian, a slight spark as the motor starts up is normal. If it's continuing to spark while the motor runs, it could be an issue with your brush position, there could be an issue with the commutator surface, it could be overloading, or any other number of things. Hard to diagnose without seeing it! Good luck.
@@emotorsdirect appreciate for you advise sir
I have an old Craftsman table saw. The motor hums and trips the breaker. The capacitor is 110 VAC, 216-259 MFD. size is 1-7/16 by 2-3/4 The one on your web site has dual blade terminals. item Packard PMJ216. The old one has only two terminals. Is that a problem?
The dual blade terminals are just a design choice by the manufacturer to allow for easier or more flexible wiring configurations. They are not an issue as long as you connect the wires correctly. If you're still unsure, feel free to contact our team at customerservice@emotorsdirect.ca.

I forgot to take a pic before disconnecting old one. How do i determine how to connect wires now? Any video or reading recommended? I have that situation currently with a spa pump motor start capacitor (2 terminals, not 3)
Hi Matt, look at the motor's wiring diagram. This is often printed on the motor itself or in the manual. If the diagram isn’t available, note the motor's labels for the terminals (often marked as L1, L2, Start, Run, or Common).
After few use, my DeWalt DW733 does this : th-cam.com/users/shortsJxh-c_tlbWw?si=0pV_R2KCWj8eDBaw Is it normal?
Hi Zoltán, when the motor starts, a large surge of electrical current flows through the brushes and commutator. This can produce noticeable sparks. Because the spark is noticeable only when the motor starts, and assuming there is no burning smell, I don't think this is cause for worry. Dewalts aren't my area of expertise but I hope this helps.
Thank you!
Thanks for
No problem
Question my start capacitor is 110vac. My auger motor is du voltage I'm running it on high voltage 220. My capacitor went out. Do you feel that had any to do with it?
In a motor running on 220V, the voltage across the start capacitor can exceed 110V, especially due to transient spikes or back EMF generated during motor startup. You could try a 220v capacitor instead, which you can likely find for under $20: www.emotorsdirect.ca/parts/capacitors?nominal-voltage=220~250V&product-subsubcategory=Start-Capacitor

My concrete mixer motor has wired noise sir, what do you think come be the cause, is working well but sometimes it gives out some little smoke
It could be overloading. Ensure the load capacity of the mixer does not exceed the motor's rating. Reduce the batch size if necessary and allow the motor to cool between uses.
Hello, I use TECO A510 in my motor applications and they run great. I used Modbus for communications, start, stop ... Is there a Watchdog or Keep-Alive function for the TECO A510? That is, automatically stop the motor if the communications with the VFD is lost? Thank you, Omar
Take a look at parameters 09-06, 09-07, 09-08, and 09-09. As far as I read and understand, 09-07 we tell the VFD what we want it to do when there is a communication failure. And then the other parameters are just the limitations around when the VFD decides there is a communication issue. Hope this helps!
@@emotorsdirect Thank you very much. It will also help if the VFD receives a Keep-Alive signal from the controller. Any directions where to look for that will be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Great!
Thanks!
nice presentation on what could be terribly dull content. He mad it interesting and I learned a few things. Thats the important part!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi keith, awesome video. I'd like to know if a vfd is suitable for my 3phase, 4kw, 2900rpm reciprocating compressor? I think I should use a soft starter but those are hard to find where am at. Main reason for the installation is to reduce the starting amps draw of the motor as it will be connected to (3) 10kw inverters with a 15kw lithium battery. Nnoruka from Enugu, Nigeria I also have a 7.5kw - 11kw inverter I'll like to install on a 3phase, 11kw, 1400rpm reciprocating compressor if the first installation works out fine. Altitude and temperature are within spec. Waiting for your experienced insight. Thank you
Thanks for watching! Posting new content soon so stay tuned. Some things to consider when selecting a VFD (1) torque - depending on your compressor application, you may need a variable torque or constant torque rating. A reciprocating compressor would typically need constant torque. (2) cooling - depending on how slow you want to turn the motor, it may not be able to cool itself properly. Check that the motor is inverter rated and what the minimum speed recommendation is, per the manufacturer guidelines. I'm not familiar with the electrical codes in Nigeria, so I would consult that as well. Good luck!
@emotorsdirect Thank you!
Hi have you done a video about what to do when changing grease types in a bearing or motor?
Hi Michael, no I haven't done a video on this yet. What's the use case?
Thankyou
but how it works inside the motor? lets say the speed is low how does the motor keep up with the load?does the voltage or the frequency maintains the torque
Would like to see video with cable specs between vfd and motor. Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi thanks for the great video. I was just wondering. Can you put just two hot wires in a three pole overload (ex. L1✓ L2✓ L3×)??
Yes, you can wire two hot wires through a three-pole overload relay, but it depends on the relay's design and specifications. Ensure the relay supports two-wire operation or consider using a two-pole overload relay to avoid potential faults or improper operation.
@emotorsdirect Great thank you for your reply. I couldn't find a 2 pole overload relay handy for my project but I improvised just looping my T2 to L3 and my T1 and T2 as my output to the motor. Should be okay right?
Sir please let me know fault code ( OPbFt )
Hi Myo, this is the high pressure fault code. The feedback value of pump pressure is lower than limit of maximum flow. Check feedback signal is correct. Check if feedback value of pressure is lower than limit of maximum pressure (23-12). Find the manual here: www.emotorsdirect.ca/item/teco-f510-4250-c3-u?quantity=1&tab=downloads-tab
A compressor is not constant torque. The torque will vary with the pressure head the pump must overcome.
You caught me there - a lot of compressors are variable torque, especially in large industrial applications. I deal with some constant torque compressors in fixed-speed or fixed-load applications as well.
