Husqvarna 445 chainsaw sprocket/clutch drum replacement
This technique involves basic tools that most people have on hand. It’s the same procedure on a lot of Husqvarna chainsaws, including this Husqvarna 445. This is how you change the sprocket or clutch. Some people refer to the sprocket as a clutch drum.

Thank you so much for this video. Had the same issue after I just bought this used, was working great, then all of a sudden it was seized or something. Wasn't sure. Sure enough, that clutch brake was on. Problem solved. Thanks again! 👍

Just a general note, the basic wear and tear on sprockets (it's amazing how many power saws I've noticed come back from a 'full service' still with their old worn sprockets still on them). And why would it matter, if the sprocket is not totally damaged? Well, it's the chain is my understanding doesn't benefit from a uniform tension applied to it. There can be parts of the chain's rotational cycle in which the chain comes under excessive tension, then followed by lack of the same. And it basically results in poorer chain performance, excessive stretching and strain to the chain component itself. And considering that 'good' chain is important, and not cheap to buy, store and sharpen. It's a real pity for the sake of a sprocket replacement once a year, that one is losing a lot in terms of one's chain reliability and performance, because of a lack of attention to the said sprocket maintenance procedure. I discovered a worn sprocket on my 65cc saw a while back, and it annoyed me, as I'd used it as a saw in workshop to mount chain on to, sharpen and test in wood for a while. Before taking off the chain and storing it for use on my other saws. Little did I know, I was doing damage to each chain I re-sharpened, by using it on that saw. It was really Oregon I think, a dedicated chain and bar maker who put emphasis on it for me, in one of their instructions.

When priming bulb i caught air and a whistling noise. So i replaced everything you showed and also a new bulb. The new Priming bulb still catches nothing but air and makes a whistling noise. Any suggestions? I have 5 stihl gas powered equipment and have never been stumped before.

In my case those bushings were so rusted stuck inside the clutch halves that I had to get a new clutch and angle-grind with a cutting disc each bushing out of the clutch halves so I could re-use the bushings (not available in Europe anymore)

Great video! I really appreciate how you broke down the process of installing the fuel line. The tip about cutting an angle on the line to help with feeding it through the tank was super helpful-definitely something I’ll keep in mind for my next project! Looking forward to seeing your follow-up on the fitted line; I'm curious to learn more about that!

From Japan, the fuel line on my trusty daily use Husky 266 (purchased new in 19989, in Alaska) finally gave out. That has been an amazing machine. Over the years I have replaced most everything once. But the gas line, I got 30 years out of it!

AMERICA, Bro!!!! The truth has been released to the world!!! I like your videos, man! Thanks, and keep up the good work with your video making and spreading the good advice to all... Chainsaws are my life as well as my family... If you're interested, I can send pics of my new SUPER BEAST that I built and modified it's a Huskovarna 575xp. EXTREMELY fast and powerful... It kind of makes you shake after using it, and I've never felt that feeling before in my life of using chainsaws!!! Lol, not a toy...

Thanks so much for making this video! I had a problem with an HT75 purchased 2001 where the chain would not drive when the telescoping pole was extended. It later got to the point where the chain would not drive regardless of whether the pole was extended or retracted. Using Lester's video, I removed the motor and found a small, wire snap ring around the splined shaft about 4 inches from the motor end of the shaft. As I removed the splined shaft further, I found there was a groove about 10" from the motor end where the snap ring was supposed to be. Its purpose is to keep the drive shaft from being pushed too far into the tube and disconnecting from the motor's clutch. Hoping this might help someone having a similar problem.

Be very careful when removing the starter. If the main recoil spring drops out you are buying another ($14+/-). On the MS180C if you upend the case after pulling out the rewind assembly the main coil often will drop free and release its tension. Getting it back in that deep well is very, very difficult. So much so the shop will just put a new one in rather than try to rewind the old one even though it is still good. When they do these videos they seem to always only do the simple part never showing the spring dropping out which it is all too easy to do.

I got the new carb in place but for some reason I can't get the throttle cable tight enough on the carb? When I pull the gas lever the cable is too loose so it doesn't pull the throttle on the carb. How do you tighten it so there's enough tension?

These stihl pole saws are the biggest pieces of shit I’ve ever seen . One branch falls wrong is all it takes to bend the flimsy top pole and flimsy driveshaft. It Only costs around $3-400 in parts to repair it. But hey my ht101 engine still runs. I’ll stick with echo from now on.
