Energy efficiency
มุมมอง 1K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Imagine you’re driving a car with your foot flat on the accelerator, and using the brake to moderate your speed. This is not an efficient way to drive; it wastes petrol and can cause damage to the vehicle’s components. And yet this is how many industrial motors are run, operating at full power and using vanes and dampers to throttle output. In this video Phil Nightingale of Inverter Drive Syste...
PID control
มุมมอง 106K8 ปีที่แล้ว
What is PID control? In industry we use PID loops to control processes, be they simple or complex. ABB drives contain PID loops that can be used to automatically control all sorts of industrial processes with greater accuracy and efficiency. In this video Darren Beeby of Halcyon Drives - an ABB Authorised Value Provider - explains the basics of PID control, and how it can help to improve the ef...
Safe Torque-Off
มุมมอง 14K8 ปีที่แล้ว
To find out more, visit abbukenergy.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/safe-torque-off-what-is-it-and-why.html. What is safe torque-off? A fundamental requirement for any industrial machinery is that it is safe. To achieve this, the machine needs a fail-safe device, one that in the event of a failure responds in such a way that no harm will come personnel near the machine. This video explains how safe-torq...
Mitigating harmonic distortion
มุมมอง 3.7K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Harmonic distortion is a type of pollution to the electricity supply that is caused by non-linear loads. Some levels of harmonics on the network are acceptable. But as harmonic levels increase, so too does the likelihood of problems occurring. These problems often require costly maintenance to fix and can even lead to plant downtime. In this video, Luke Archer, a drive system engineer for MKE E...
SynRM technology cuts energy use for Radius Systems
มุมมอง 7938 ปีที่แล้ว
Radius Systems has achieved a 15% cut in energy use, a significant reduction in motor maintenance costs and a drop in audible noise by installing an ABB synchronous reluctance motor and drive (SynRM) package on a twin extruder application.
Why do variable-speed drives fail?
มุมมอง 2K8 ปีที่แล้ว
To find out more, visit: abbukenergy.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/what-causes-variable-speed-drive-failure.html Why do variable-speed drives trip or fail? A variable-speed drive (VSD) can last for many years, but only if it is installed properly, operated to not exceed its rated limits, and taken care of throughout its operational life. This video explains some of the key contributing factors towards...
Why do motors fail?
มุมมอง 20K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Why do motors fail? Modern industrial processes rely so heavily on motors that it can be catastrophic if they were to fail. Not only are motors difficult and expensive to replace, but every second they are out of action can cost a company substantially in lost productivity. In this video Peter Wilson of Covelec - an ABB Authorised Value Provider - explains the three most common reasons why moto...

@@krakenwoodfloorservicemcma5975 I understand that there are 2-phases or 3-phases for AC power distribution, but there is also 3-phase DC, where you use PWM, and selectively drive two of the coils at a time to electrically commutate the motor, rather than use brushes. I am curious to what extent that electronic commutation is done with AC motors, rather than use brushes. Working with motors myself, the MTBF of a brush motor is about an order of magnitude shorter.. I am less familiar with AC motors, but have worked a lot with BLDC and stepper motors.

AC locomotive traction motors work with three phase square wave that is controlled from phase modulation.. goes in as DC, comes out AC pulsed. Very rugged motors, generally fail from insulation breakdown. But they go a million miles often.

ABB Noobs. Motors usually fail during start-up. If you're trying to start-up a locked motor or machine without proper knowledge and protection you'll destroy the motor.

Very nice tutorial. We have developed an ANALYTICAL CONSTRAINT OPTIMAL PID CONTROLLER (see the links at the end, but you can contact me inbox tchamna@resulam.com if you are not able to have the full paper) that I am suggesting to your audience. It is an AUTOMATIC way to tune PID parameters WITHOUT any trial an error, and PLUS, while maintaining constraint on : 1. the output (process) variable, y, 2. the control (manipulated) variable, u, and 3. the rate of change of the control (manipulated) variable, u'. We have solved the control parameters ANALYTICALY, meaning that, the parameters are given in a closed-form expression, relating the plant parameters to the control parameters. So, the only thing the user have to input to the model is 1. The desired maximum input (y_max) 2. The desired maximum control variable (u_max) 3. The desired maximum control variable rate of change (u'_max) And the system will then calculate your control parameters using the closed-form equation. We have derived the parameters for integral and first order stable or unstable systems. Apart from Maintenance, the Harmonic Distortion in the power system is a major cause of VFD failures. More so, when a transformer operates at full load and it contains large numbers of VFD Drives. Read some real-life case studies at: enconengineers.in/vfd-harmonic-caused-drive-failure-and-arc-flash

Thanks for your video but I have a question here about the Derivative Control. You said the slop will slow down the car speed, so it should means the rate of change of speed is negative because the speed is decreasing instead of increasing. Therefore in this case I feel like the derivative part gain is negative, and the driver will release the pedal instead of pressing it down to accelerate.

Didn't say anything about Voltages being wrong!!! Bad wiring can cause an over draw on the circuit causing too much resistance causing the motor to run on too low voltage causing more heat causing an overheating situation causing the motor to burn up!!! All he talks about is mechanical failure!!! Not electrical failure!!!

Sir i want to make a video on PID tutorial can i use your histroy lines which is " In 1922 an engineer called Nicholas minovsky the was designing automatic steering system for the US Navy. He noticed that helmsman control the ship based not only on the current error also past error as well as the current rate of change when asked it came up with the mathematics that described these actions and laid the foundation for today's PID controllers" After making video i will also send you video if you see any pirate material i will remove it. can you sir allow me only add lines of you of history of PID.

I have a question. I feel a lot of modern cars have way too much delay on the throttle. The throttlecontroll feels very sluggish. I suppose it is to make it smooth, but its too slow in my opinion. Can it be too low P that makes this effect? or is it just mechanical? like turbo kicking in? Im used to PID-controllers from flying RC quadcopters. Thanks for reply!

    • @ABBValueProviderUK
      @ABBValueProviderUK 7 ปีที่แล้ว

The video is only using a car to demonstrate PID as a concept (familiar to most people) I’m afraid ABB do not manufacture or control cars. Having said that, since all cars operate with inputs from the driver to the internal computer, the accelerator is just an input to the car computer (ECU), so it is highly possible that the P gain on accelerator is the issue. I know some cars have eco and sports modes, and the response is definitely different in each mode, so the PID setting for the accelerator will possible be being altered in these different modes.

    • @arnovrancken471

its just a mechanical issue, since we suddenly need more air to flow in the combustion chambre, it takes some time(inertia), especially with turbo driven engines.
