Just a quick rundown of what's in the bag. I did find that the power bank was not enough to keep the X6100 at 10 watts. I will be going back to the LifePo4 battery that used in a previous video going forward.

I've been waiting to pull the trigger for a 6200...yet...with its CW key issues...that desperately needs a firmware update...might be waiting a good while.
@@mazecentric4124 I ultimately sold the 6100. I've got a different rig now for POTA. Looking forward to getting back out to the parks!
I bought a heavy duty tripod for survey to use with my astronomy binoculars....never thought to use my tripod instead of a ground spike for my jPC-12! I can put that tripod up solid a good 7 feet high. I'll have to make more radials..and longer I suspect.. Thanks for the vid!
@@mazecentric4124 good call on the survey tripod! You shouldn't need any extra weight or tie downs for it. If you do though I have a video on those too!
@@wattsandhertz I'll look for the vid! For the radials..I might wind them on those small 7 inch caution cones and have mueller connectors to attach to an oversided antenna ground washer or similar. They should stack nicely together and not take up too much room! If anything...passerby's will make a judgment call and not try to start a convo!
how long are those radials ?
@@bobbyt3451 I believe they are 15'. They are the stock radials that come with the Pac-12. I have since added a second set of those.

As usual, if you modify the radio's hardware, the warranty is void. (The warranty is void right after you remove any part of the radio case without the agreement of our support team.) The problem is caused by a number of things. Glitches in the download, using an SD card that is too large, the larger the card the greater the chance of error and the use of Rufus which is known to cause errors. Use Balena Etcher. There is nothing wrong with the radios. The majority are not having issues with the new firmware and I find it perfect
@@trev8932 I completely understand where you are coming from but the one thing that you might be missing out on is the possibility of different board revisions in the radio. Radioddity has confirmed that there is an issue with some users radios taking the baseband correctly. I'm standing by skipping this "update" until it's confirmed on all revisions.
@@wattsandhertz You could well have a point. The only thing is when people have switched to Balena Etcher, used a low error 2gb card and then loaded in the firmware all has been well. Too many are slagging off the radio without realising that they could be introducing errors by their own methods. The other things to bear in mind is ensure you are using external 12v supply, personally I don't use a switch mode supply but a battery that is fully charged and at least 7AH also make sure all USB cables are disconnected from the PC and antenna and microphone are disconnected too, any noise getting to the radio when flashing firmware can cause problems. Hopefully as radio amateurs we should be aware of this.
Mine is a receiver now not a transmitter :{
Give this a shot: Click on the link above in the description and get the firmware from Radioddity. Use Balena Etcher to create the memory card from that link. Install it to the 6100 and see if it corrects yours not transmitting. If it doesn't then you may need to start the warranty process if you are still under warranty. Thanks for commenting!
Hello, thanks for your video. I installed firmware 1.1.8. since the modulation indication and swr does not work anymore. I put the old one again and everything works. Bad experience with FW 1.1.8 from September. Thanks. ON3KJU
Thank you for commenting! That is one of the signs that there was a firmware failure. Glad to hear you are working now though!
I don’t know how it got corrupted. I upgraded to the new firmware and it did not cause any problems. I switched back to the older firmware after people started having problems. I used Rufus no problems. Are you formatting the card every time before running etcher? I have had problems in the past with SD cards if I don’t format them every time.
Yes they were formatted each time to start with a clean card. I also tried 2 different cards in case they were the issue. The only thing that fixed it was Balena Etcher but also there have been reports where others have had the same issue and reverting to the previous Baseband corrected the issue. Once I used Balena it cleared the issue.
Excellent video. I'm glad i sold this unreliable junk a while ago...I don't miss it at all. The receiver is worse than my g90 unless I used the russian firmware. The firmware "updates" always fixed 1 thing and made 5 other things worse. Battery frequently got very hot. I'm glad i sold it while its value was still high (before the 6200 was announced).
Thanks for checking out the video! Mine has been pretty stable up to this point. I had both the G90 and 6100 but sold the G90. Of course I really only use the 6100 for POTA or when I travel. Updates have been pretty rough and with the 6200 honestly I am not seeing much of an upgrade in features. But I AM seeing less power reported. I am not going to get one though.
@n0vfiradiomisadventures So, I kept the g90 because it suits my operating style better. I don't go backpacking or hiking, so the minimal size and weight difference between the two is not critical to me. The birdies and ghost signals on the receiver is a deal breaker for me with the 6100. Occasionally the radio would lock up and require a reboot. Anyway...I'm glad you were able to revive your 6100!
Thanks for keeping on this!
As far as Rufus is concernned I am using the latest version "Rufus x64 v4.5.2180" and had no problem at all. My SDCard was just a generic no name card. This is more likely a local issue with your computer, not with the firmware.
Considering there are others who have had issues with it I wouldn't say it is a local issue with the computer. The initial update went to the sd card with no issues and updated the radio fine. Others have reported that the radio didn't transmit after update. The revert may have been a Rufus issue due to it working just fine after using Balena. The version of Rufus I used was: Rufus - The Reliable USB Formatting Utility Version 4.5 (Build 2180) Thanks for the comment though I appreciate any feedback.
No issues here with the latest firmware update. I used Balena for the Mac and loaded up the latest firmware fine w/XMIT. Sounds like a bug in Rufus when creating the image. Just my 2¢.
I would agree post initial update. The initial update is reported to have nuked others transmit as well. I am wondering if the initial issue is a different board revision that is not compatible with the new firmware. I asked Radioddity about that and am waiting on a response. Thanks for commenting!
@@wattsandhertz You bet! Please keep us in the loop and thank you!
Whew, glad you got your radio back!
Me too! I am surprised that the issue seems to be with the way that the newer version of Rufus did the SD card image. Balena really saved the day on that one. Thanks again Steve!
Согласен! Balena работает исправно!..
Same thing happened to mine last night. Firmware REVERT does not fix it !!!
I just posted an update video with a link to a revert version that you NEED to use Balena Etcher and not Rufus for. Give that a shot and let me know how it goes!
You are the second report. Let me know how the revert goes.
Thanks Steve! Hopefully I'll hear something tomorrow from them.
@@wattsandhertz did the revert not work?

Thanks! I'm trying to at least make them informative.
Good idea. Could also help when using the spike in loose or damp soil
Definitely! It would work great as long as you have either tie off points or good tent spikes.
Yes, it will relieve the load on the coil in a strong gust of wind.
Also, you can put multiple supports on the mast. If you put one low and another high it will be even more stable.
Like it was made for it! Oh, wait... it was! Nice job!
Thanks!
Thanks for the shoutout - that battery works well, but for some reason doesn't work the same with all X6100s. You seem to have gotten the magic combination!
Thanks for watching the video Steve! I did find that the battery did roll back a bit after an hour. It moved to being my supply for my hotspot and I'm going to source a cable for the Gateway jankopotamous.
An hour isn't bad for a "travel" battery. @@wattsandhertz
