    Damn dude, love it. So impressive. Amazing. I’m such a huge Sugarfoot fan and I love this groove so much. The story he told on Drumeo is that he played this at his audition not knowing that they recorded it in 3 separate tracks. So he worked out how to do it all at once and their jaws dropped. Hired that same night.

    Chad, fantastic video. but let me ask you something: is the tom part on the recording really a two 16th note part? ah-3 ah-4? I know it's overdubbed, so it makes sense that any drummer would likely play ah-3 ah-4. But when I listen to the recording, I can't hear the second note at all. I always thought it was just our own ear that sort "assumed" there was a second note. I just hear it as the "ah" of 2 and the "ah" of 3. Anyhoo, great video man!

    • @ttchadtt1
      @ttchadtt1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, so much, my man… so, believe it or not, according to The Jacksons, it’s two 16th notes… I agree with you, I can’t hear the 2nd notes on the record, either… LOL. But, on the first day of rehearsals, I played just single notes in the toms and they quickly corrected me… LOL…;)

    • @ttchadtt1
      @ttchadtt1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      LOL… I thought the exact same thing… LOL… but in rehearsals all four brothers told me it was 2 16ths… to this day, I still only hear one note each on the record…LOL… but, The Jacksons sign the checks so I play it the way they say to play it… LOL

      Thank you, so much…!!! I’m so glad you found it helpful in anyway… the Hats I’m using in this video are 14” Zildjian A New Beat top and Zildjian A Quick Beat bottom… sometimes, I use 14” or 15” A Quick Beats during the actual show with The Jacksons. Thank you, so much, for the inquiry….!!!

    Very nicely explained, Mr. Wright! You make that complex pattern groove so well. Your drums sound amazing-beautiful, clear tones, and your cymbals are perfectly balanced. Very well-produced all around. I had to learn this song for my band and I came up with a slightly different way to get a very similar result. Thank you for a great video, and a little history behind it. Cheers!

    Great breakdown!!! I have 2 ways I play it depending on the gig. I learned Sugarfoot’s version when i first had to do it with a Corporate band and adjusted it to the 1-2 toms you do, with my left hand on the HiHat to make it easier to get around the toms! However, I was asked to sing the lead by the band and took out the Hi Hat accents to make it easier to sing! It became my favorite song to do in all its incarnations!
