If you still have this. Do you know where the 2 wires that come off the copper coil part connect to? Mine broke off and can't find any info on it
First mistake I see: Not Removing all batteries before opening the radio up. This is a shock hazard when opening.
How is the AM reception on the radio after installing the wireless charger?
The world needs more tinkerers. Glad to be part of the club!
What a great idea. I will have to do this mod myself now
Very cool!
Very cool.
Does the usb still work or just wireless only now ?
Can you charge thought USB and Wireless at the same time)
I’m a bit late to this mod, but when I tried this, I was only getting half power to the wireless charger no matter how I switched the leads, so I just unscrewed the USB circuit board and just plugged in the USB cable as you would normally use it,then just tucked the c-board inside and hotsnot in place. Works a dream and best of all, if there is any warranty issues, I would just remove the hotsnot and screw back the circuit board and it’s back to factory and won’t void warranty.
What if you put the leads straight to the battery ?
So You Got The Wireless Charger At 5 Below? I'm Building A Bluetooth Speaker Out Of An Old Center Channel Speaker Box.📦🔊🔉🔈📢
I use the heck out of these little radio every day in construction, matter of fact i burnt my fist 1 so i bought 2 more. I did my modification too but just a switch to turn off the battery, i realized it drains the battery out if battery kept in the radio. (Also have dewalts tough system) but I prefer small/compact.
AWESOME MOD, Please keep doing Ryobi and Maybe even some HART Tools Mod's TOO!!! Definitely A GREAT VIDEO. I appreciate you and everything you did...
How much does this affect the one+ battery life in the radio though? How long do you get out of it now with a 2.5 or 5ah?
I had the Ryobi Stereo, but I went out and bought the Ryobi Radio just to do this mod. It worked FANTASTIC. I was careful soldering onto the USB port so I can use both to charge two devices at once. Thanks for the idea and the explanation. I'm now using this all the time.
"You know the drill" Sir I think that's a Ryobi rotary tool. :p
Nice mod. Nice video.
Most excellent! For your first video that was a great entertaining, instructional and just plain exceptional workmanship jobby, which achieved a functional upgrade to an outdated mode of charging, congratulations... 👏🏻 I’d love a Ryobi radio but the one thing that stops me getting one of the current selection is the total absence of anything DAB fitted - they really do need to catch up with every other workshop/site radio from the other main cordless tool makers... 🤷🏼♂️
Love to see mods like this. More vids!
Awesome mod!
And with this you just voided the warranty. 😂😂 but you don’t care do you?😂
Nice idea. Thanks. I also thought you were going to install a better quality speaker until you got started.
I wonder if I can do this on the bigger ryobi speaker
I just did this mod and used the same charger as you, just turned the radio and I have the really bad interference with the radio to the point I can't listen to it! Any ideas? It's fine when I use Bluetooth
I’m sorry to hear this. I have not experienced this problem. I’m not sure what charger you used but maybe look at the placement? maybe try moving it around? Best advice I can offer right now.
Could probably use a ground loop isolator between the USB power and wireless charger. If that doesn't help it well and truly is the wireless charger adding interference and would be best to stick to bluetooth.
Thats a great Idea!
Very cool
Neat idea, and one I would consider, although I went to the expense if getting a samsung stand-alone wireless charger. My big issue with the radio as with the previous iteration of it...the miserable quality of the speaker. Is it worth attempting to implant a better radio speaker? They both act as if they are blown, and the quality of sound is pathetic. Nice vid though, and I have a myriad of Ryobi tools.
I have two of this radio. I don't like the USB charging port either, but it is for a different reason. The radio eats up the battery power really quick without even being turned on. I read it somewhere that this problem is caused by the USB charger. A few minutes ago I opened the radio like you mentioned in this video and cut one of the two wires to the USB port, hoping that would stop the battery leak problem. We'll see.
polymyxa I haven’t noticed anything too bad. Let me know how that works. Thanks for watching!
That won't work, the buck converter is always powered on regardless of whether or not something is connected to the output. You can cut trace to the INPUT/VCC pin to power the IC down or the ENABLE pin
Dude this is so cool! Great job.
This is freakin awesome! Love it
What a fantastic video of American ingenuity. I suspect you've given Ryobi their next update to that radio. Good quality video! Good sound, good video, no garbage! Thanks! Even though I don't have the radio and probably wouldn't do this if I did, I still appreciate the time, effort, and thought that was put into this project.
