Damn! You need more subscribers, fantastic video!!
Cheers, glad you liked it!
man, i can see this channel being better than most short channels that introduce fun facts or knowledge in general, especially because your voice is so soothing but u need better audio
Better audio coming soon!
This was great man, just invest into better audio and I can see this channel popping off! Keep it up brother.
absolutely right!
Thanks a lot! We're working on the audio!
Hats gotta go.
It's an iconic staple of his wardrobe!
I was doing a mini-research project last month on simultaneous turn implementations across different sorts of games. Frozen synapse being brought up made my neurons buzz. Lots of weird quirks arise out of that style of concurrency that just don't really rear their ugly heads anywhere else. Key examples we covered were: Frozen synapse/cortex, Spirit Island, Captain Sonar, Pandemic + clones (always what it effectively boils down to, even if not prescribed), 98% of social deduction games, and Dominions 6. Unrelatedly, communication limitations are something I've only ever seen in one niche game that wasn't even concurrent (Tragedy Looper).
That's really interesting! A great list of games to cover there. Do you have a link to a write up of the project? Would love to have a read
funny stuff! Loved the diplomacy discussion and couldn't help but notice you lean nicely into the Italian playstyle ;)
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
Matt why did you move the camera 😢
OMG I DID THIS TOO BACK IN 2015 ❤❤❤ HAPPY TO SEE SOMEONE TRIED IT TOO 🤩
Now, here's the next question- what regiment do you play?...
Matt fields tanks in Cadian Markings alongside a custom infantry regiment he calls the '3rd Cheveraux' which rules wise he fields as Cadians or Krieg! He shows off a few of them in the full episode on Dice!
ah yes, JOON, such a lovely game
Sometimes auto captions are a blessing, sometimes a curse
Iraquis....
the only popular wargame where one sides entire army can alpha strike you out of the game without you being able to react.
Isn't it just the best?! Matt actually talks about Alpha Strikes in next months video on Turn Based Gameplay!
I came across this video randomly and you fucking rock that beard brother, looks marvelous
You should have seen the other half! It was glorious!
Your beard aggravates me
That half beard is actually really cool
We tried to get Matt to make it a full time thing but for some reason he didn't want to...
@@HoopsnakeStudios maybe I'll do it one day, I'll need to grow a proper beard first though
When the new champion is busted OP it's just asymmetric
asymmetry in games is something i think about more than I should. Thanks for making a video on it!
Great camera presence
That's cool you mentioned splinter cell
It's an important game in the history of games! (Also a great fun game)
this is an amazing video. love the aesthetics and the humour. keep it up!!
Thank you! Will do!
Great content guys keep it up
Thanks! We'll do our best!
Sometimes the algorithm works, very fun video. Shall subscribe!
Welcome aboard landlubber!
Luigi what are you doing hear First
Luigi always seems to show up...
matt looks like he's wearing half of another mans torso. commitment to the role
Frankenmatt lives again!
Please make this a Foundry Module, and make it so we can add items from our compendiums by assigning a value of e.g. 3x2
We did experiment with custom items, it's definitely something we'd like to add but requires a lot of work on the back end architecture. Hopefully in an update post launch!
Sadly most deckbuilding games (especially ones that lazily copy Ascension without considering market unclogging) barely have any soft synergy combo going around, relying on color-based "hard synergies" as a crutch. Speaking of balance, the Century-style market is an easy yet powerful way to self-balance the cards like auctions would, but more beginner-friendly. Wish more deckbuilding games used it
It would be great to see more auction centered deck builders!
@@HoopsnakeStudios indeed! Whether you bid for the cards (like Arctic Scavengers) or use the actions on cards or boards to bid (like Dune Imperium) or both It would be nice to have a deckbuilder + oldschool euro (like Amun Re, Ra) with bidding disguised under a combat theme like AS and DI :)
Interesting video. There is a great pirate themed deck builder on mobile. Pirates Outlaws.
We'll have to check that out! Thanks
Love a hard Deck

It's interesting to hear that deckbuilding games evolved from adventurer-building games, because one of my pet projects has been trying to make an adventurer-building deckbuilder - they felt to me like two genres that could and should go hand in hand. You only need a few things outside a deck to make one, like a HP pool. And I don't think it's actually much of a design challenge to keep a deckbuilder interesting over the course of a 60 hour campaign. At that point you're basically playing a TTRPG, and in any mechanical TTRPG, it's possible to make a terrible character that's not fun to play. The genre has decided that's just an acceptable possibility because eliminating it could only be done by eliminating the aspect of choice. And I'd argue that roguelikes don't just mesh well with deckbuilding, I'd argue they're functionally the same thing - some roguelikes just don't use the word "deck". If you were to take any deckbuilding game and design a digital client for it that has AI opponents, you would have created a roguelike without ever specifically trying to: Roguelikes are defined by semi-randomised tool progression through a series of rounds, with all progress being lost when the game ends. That's a deckbuilder.
Would be very interested to hear how you get on with the adventure-builder! Keep us updated!
I like your style, keep it up.
Thanks! We'll try
what a great video! Will definitely be picking up dominion soon per your recommendation
Hope you enjoy it!
Another banger!
This was great! I never thought of Battleships that way, but it makes a lot of sense! Also your rule change is really good; it feels like it'd make the game a lot more fun.
Sounds fun
i'd play that game
You should check out the board game Captain Sonar. Two submarines, each crewed by 4 people, trying to blow each other up. It's amazing and sells the fun of battleship with a far more individual touch.
We love Captain Sonar, it's just a challenge to find the full eight!
It seems you have missed my tiny destroyer, Mr Bond.
That’s an amazing rule change and it uses the same board and game pieces. Brilliant
Great video but calling it BattleshipS instead of Battleship hurt my soul
Hey, so this video has earned you a subscription. Really great work. Like a black and white Spice8rack. If you're in for some minor advice, here's a tip from a former sound engineer: beards and microphones don't mix, so if you're using a lapel mic, clip it upside down and angle it down towards the throat. Pick up will be better, and you'll avoid beard noises.
Thanks for the tip!
More like badleship
Well done team!
Well good Matt
Cheers!
For trading to work properly you need to remove some of the resources through consumption from the global market place and have them be replaced by farming and producing so you have a supply and a demand and then those need to effect the price and people should be unwilling to buy pri es for extreme prices unless they need that item or have lots of money. Things need to be created based on supply and demand as well like if the price or iron ore goes up because the kingdom is now at war then more people should switch to mining
It's always taps and drains with economies. The only question is whether you create the system to entertain the player, or encourage the player to master the system!
@@HoopsnakeStudios I mean that's essentially what supply and demand is taps and sinks I just suggest that you have it so that the taps change based on supply and demand. Also I'm really not a fan of very specific items you can only get by doing a specific quest or something you should always be able to buy anything.
This was great, I want more now.
What system are you using? Cool little video!
Thanks! This is using Firelight: Heroes - we have a few other videos about it, and you can download a copy for free from our website! hoopsnakestudios.com/firelight-heroes/
I'm very, very happy about the edit. Great video!
Not only do I now know a bit more about playing cards, I have a sudden urge to put them in my mouth.... Also Toby's magic trick story caught me totally off-guard 😅 really funny and overall really informative!
