I have just found this video. I am big Trfonov fan (although I don't like the current 'vagrant' look with long unwashed hair. Not becoming of an artist putting himself out in front of the public. This performance is shocking. He has an incredible technique to carry the piece off but why be so bombastic and totally unmusical. Far too fast and constantly playing forte. No subtlety. It's NOT a good Paganini Rhapsody at all. Look at Kantorow, Kharitonov, Cherkassky and, of course, the composer, to hear how this piece should actually be played. This is APPALLING

Rachmaninov was “cast down but not destroyed” after the disastrous debut of his first symphony. Small wonder the 2nd. Piano concerto is a staple of the repertory. If “What is from the heart goes straight to the heart” every heart that is open to this Magnum Opus is a sure sign of “The Spirit of Eternity”. King Solomon wrote in Proverbs “The spirit of man is the candle of THE LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” To which I SHOUT A RESOUNDING AMEN! PWG

Wie immer : Trifonov grandios und unvergleichlich . Es ist mir unbegreiflich wie er ein immenses Repertoire mit Orchester, Solo und auch kammermusikalisch in kurzer Zeit überall auf der Welt (incl. Jetlag ) so souverän und meisterhaft abliefern kann . Ich bin mir sicher , das kann sonst niemand : Man muss nur auf seine Homepage gehen und sehen wie oft er unterwegs ist und das Repertoire wechselt . Andere Pianisten spielen meistens Wochen- oder auch monatelang das gleiche Programm , aber Trifonov nicht , er wechselt häufig . Was für eine singuläre Meisterleistung! Ich hoffe seine Gesundheit spielt weiter mit ! Bravo ! Das einzige was bei diesem Video stört , dass ein nicht unerheblicher Teil des Publikums nach etwa 7 Minuten mitten im Stück klatscht , das finde ich sehr unpassend und unkultiviert….
