Adjusting the Viscosity of your VPI armlifter
This is not a procedure that we recommend doing at home but there are our customers who are interested in adjusting the level of viscosity to change how fast or slow their arm lifter moves. This video provides a basic understanding of how to take apart clean and then reapply fluid to your arm lifter. The lubricant used is Silicone Damping Fluid.

What lube was used?
What kind of lube is that.
Checked out website I couldn't find where I can purchase an armlifter
Just call the office or send an email. The guys are very helpful.
Good video, especially for someone on the fence for a uni-pivot arm. 😉
Good job on the Rosewood!
Enjoying vinyl & turntables is a never ending quest. I started 2 years ago with a Fluance RT85 plugged into a $600 Marantz 2-channel integrated (their current entry level unit). I now have a $1,600 Music Hall Stealth, a $1,000 Ortofon Concorde Black LVB250, a Clearaudio 12v Pro PSU and a 3" thick maple iso platform with $200 feet and a built-in dust cover. It's plugged into a Black Ice Audio Fusion9 MkIII phono pre (w/ NOS Telefunken tubes)...and that's plugged into the Black Ice Audio F360 stereo pre (w/ the RESERVE line tube from RAYS/APOs)...and that's plugged into a pair of Emotiva monoblocks (the HD1 monoblocks. I don't remember the exact model number). I also added the Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition and installed a linear PSU, optical drive & 2TB Samsung 990 series SSD in it). Then I bought a $1,400 hardwood rack to sit it all on. Then I bought a $700 surge protector (call it what ya want. It's a surge protector) to keep give me some comfort concerning "insurance" for my pricey new gear. Then I spent a little over $1,000 making cables (I made XLR cables & power cables but purchased Pro-Ject C Series RCAs because I'm dumb like that). ...and I added a pair of $4,000 tower speakers & a pair of $5,000 subwoofers. It sounds amazing. It has literally brought tears to my eyes on a few occasions if I'm being honest. ...but I'm still looking at fancier turntables. I haven't had the one I'm using now for 6 or 7 months for Christ's sake. It's a sickness. There's no $$$ for my other hobbies anymore. Even the ones I've loved for 30 years. I'm in a never ending argument with myself about whether I'm going to purchase a $4,000 turntable that I can't afford & don't even know how to set up properly. Madness. I should be buying RECORDS ONLY! ALL RECORDS, ALL THE TIME!!!
Nice ;)
How does the sound compare with Signature 21?

I recently spent a whole bunch of money on a new turntable, a 3" thick maple isolation platform, an Ortofon Concorde Music Black cartridge & a $1,000 vacuum tube phono preamp from Black Ice Audio. ...and, man...my phono stage sounds good (to me anyways). ...but I'm still mad at myself for not buying a VPI turntable. I REALLY should have.
No worries, we aren't going anywhere. Enjoy the current deck and the next time you get the itch we will be here. And if you are ever in New Jersey you are welcome to come by for a visit, regardless of your table :)
@@MatWeisfeld Oh, I'm definitely going to have one of the bigger, heavier VPI models at some point. Probably sooner than later. I've not been involved in the HiFi hobby for all that long. Truth be told, I never intended this to be a "hobby". I was always a car audio guy. ...but in the short time I've been messing with HiFi, I like it AT LEAST as much as I like car audio. All that said...whether I wanted it or not, this IS my hobby now. So there's a 0% chance that I won't switch out every single piece of gear I own with something else within 2-3 years time. Just to have new toys. EDIT: I just got too impatient the first time around. I had never owned a vinyl record in my life til about 2 years ago. I bought a Fluance RT85 and the next thing I knew I had spent about 10 grand on records. ....and that's when I decided to get the new turntable, iso platform, concorde black cartridge, etc etc etc. If I had waited ONE MORE WEEK, I'd have had enough cash to pick up a used Scoutmaster, or somethin' of the like. That's the move I should have made. Really. I was just too "excited". I got too worked up about having all this new kit & didn't want to wait another day. Let alone another week. ...and I did end up with a Music Hall Stealth/Funk Firm Achromat/Concorde Black cartridge/Pro-Ject Sweep-IT S2/Michelle Engineering clamp, Black Ice Fusion9 Mk3 phono pre w/ NOS Telefunken tubes, etc etc etc. It ain't like I ended up with trash. Still, the Stealth ain't no VPI.....

33 to 45 without speed issues. Wow what a concept. LMFAO.
I have the Gimbal Fatboy, everything is set correctly, have tripled checked and each time I set the tracking force with a properly calibrated scale, I get a different reading when I return the arm back to the rest and then back to the scale. Anywhere from .01 to .05 difference. Is this normal? Maybe the tonearm wiring loop affects it, can't think of anything else.
I have an OG Prime that started it all and it's performing like new. Thanks 🙏 to Matt, Harry and the whole team ❤. Greg
I recently bought a Signature 21 VPI table. Really enjoying it, and it looks and sounds awesome!
I have a pair of needle nose pliers that I got from Wally years ago. It has a little notch in it to hold the leads without clamping down too hard.
Excellent!!!
If you could be so kind, what do you feel the sonic differences are? I also rotate the cartridge counterclockwise onetime, and it manages the wires nicely. Thank you
Such a flawed system lmao.
very good maintenance stuff indeed. I personally use transmission oil since years for all my bearings and other High Mass Turntables. Before putting new oil on it I do I clean the platter bearing with "Nevr Dull" first - the results are amazing ....The surface got magic---
Das untere Lager von Motor muss nicht geölt werden?🙄🙄🙄🙄 Viele Grüsse aus Germany
He taught me how to set my speaker placement correctly. Now he taught me this.
My Traveler has been a delight for more than a decade now.
Mat!! I have an original Prime. To isolate the motor pod better I have it on a mouse pad as the manual says is an option. It works great but, would the better HW40 feet for the turntable plinth be a better option?
Hey @Slammintone the mouse pad is a fantastic low cost isolation hack! But yes, the HW-40 feet will have a nice impact and give you the ability to tap dance while you play! Happy listening!
@@MatWeisfeld Thank you Mat!
Thank you so much, I'm looking at a classic 3 and I was wondering about all the differences.
Gotta say, after five years my Primes spindle bearing shows no wear or galling. This is due to using the VPI recommended grease every 9-12 months after cleaning out what’s left of the old grease.
Very nice. This is definitely something that many will like. 👍🏻👍🏻
How come the fish wire is hanging loose?
Ron, I appreciate the tutorial! I just bought and setup this very table and you made it easy for this first timer. Clear and concise with no added fat!
Are these "universal"? I have an Aries 3 and I unscrewed my 10.5i with VTA tower and screwed on my 10" FB Gimbal with VTA tower and now my geometry is off. I have the cartridge as far back in the Gimbal headshell grooves as possible and the stylus is still forward of the dot on the VPI Alignment Jig. I also confirmed this with a Feickert Protractor.
no platter cover

Sorry, bad videos in quality of Picture and Sound. I am not longer happy about having a VPi Scout 1.1. But it sounds good. You should give more love in your videos. Not good for the image of your brand.
Great stuff thx
Now I know why I’m getting the pop.
Oh I just have to get a vpi prime ❤
Thanks, Matt your doing a good job and you're likable on top of it your dad must be proud of you. Keep up the great work I have an old scout and love it and never felt the need to upgrade it.
Regarding the method in the video of lubricating the motor by putting 1-2 drops of oil in the hole in the top of the pulley, does this work for all VPI motors, eg the TNT HRX motor? Seems so much simpler than trying to remove the pulley. In my case, the screws holding the pulley in place are very tight and will not loosen.
Ужас, ну кто так настраивает вертушу, кошмар!!!😤
