The TRUTH About The Battle Of Manila Bay
มุมมอง 2.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Battle of Manila Bay, (May 1, 1898), defeat of the Spanish Pacific fleet by the U.S. Navy, resulting in the fall of the Philippines and contributing to the final U.S. victory in the Spanish-American War. The resounding American victory made Commodore George Dewey a national hero and helped establish the reputation of the United States as a major naval power. Written, edited, animated by me. Amb...
The Current State of Philippine Cinema
มุมมอง 27K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I'm going to talk about what happened to Philippine Cinema. On why our movies seems to be a copy of a copy of a copy. Is it because of the lack of creativity of our local writers, directors and producers? Or because of Us, the audience? It's just difficult to appreciate Filipino movies due to the fact that they are not comparable to American movies. Filipino movies are also unwatchable because acting is overly exaggerated, the way they speak in movies is also different from how people talk normally in real life, the plot is usually the same as others, too dramatic. Are people really dressed so formal and full of makeup when they're home? It's just unnatural, their facial expressions are also cringe. Yes it may be watchable in the Philippines but you can't expect it to be accepted globally.

The producers and the audience here in the PH occupy the largest shares in this type of problem. Maybe here's the challenge: In the next MMFF, don't watch a comedy. Instead, explore indies. BIRDSHOT and Smaller and Smaller Circles is a must watch! Seriously.

I agree with all the topic you said. Movie industry is still a business industry. They don't want to lose money. But how about Hollywood films? They also produced indie films but those indie are popular despite from less advertising, e.g. All A24 films, Searchlight Pictures films, and Neon. So why, filipino films aren't thriving. The problem is the lack of audiences attention from those local indie because of the ripple effect from the trash local mainstream movies. It affected the indie films. Pinoy movie industry are afraid of risk. They don't want to explore new genre, they love rom-com or action comedy. There's no artistry. Popular films doesn't mean it has to be CGI heavy or VFX. We are behind that, we have a long shot to achieve it. The besy option is great storytelling. To have an example, Slumdog Millionaire has a low budget but gross over 300 million dollar worldwide, no CGI effect of something. It has only a good storyelling. Directors and Producers should do that. In 2023, we have Vivamax which it has a erotic heavy movie without story which added the audiences point of view of "Filipino Movie are trash tagala". They kept on producing that kind of films. Some people are exposed from Netflix, Disney+, HBO max and because of that, consumer has a standard in terms of quality. We should start to change. A little bit experiment can't make a change within a night. Great storytelling and good marketing can be a good start.

That's why letting the voices of producers and supporters of senseful Filipino films be heard is important. Because there are Filipino films that are simple in marketing and promotion, but still went very effective. That's why here's my suggestion: *Fantasy -Summer -Christmas (MMFF) *PWD/PWMD-Inspirational -Christmas (MMFF) *Epic/Historical and Cultural -September (Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino) *Family and values-oriented -September (Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino) -Christmas (MMFF) -Regular days/seasons *Educational-horror/thriller -October -Christmas (MMFF) *Highly-informative romantic-comedy -Valentines only *Musical film -Regular days/seasons -Christmas (MMFF) *Educational and highly-informative comedy -Christmas (MMFF) -Regular days/seasons Strictly no kabitan-seryes and mistress-themed even those sexy films. Kaya we really need to support those real quality Filipino films and teleseryes kahit simple pa yung marketing and promotion.

Accessibility and commercial viability is only one factor on why Philippine Cinema is in an awful state. You should factor in the cultural aspect. Philippine Media used to actually have an identity 20 years ago. Despite our cheaper production quality. We had unique primetime programs that actually reflected our Philippine sensibilities and taste. We had things varying adaptations of Mars Ravelos media, Shake rattle and roll (a case of a film commercially successful but maintained a Philippine identity), Primetime shows people care about(there was a time when we use to have more primetime shows than probinsiyano). In a different world our cinema industry could've developed into something similar to the Bollywood scene. Instead Praybet Benjamin and imported media like Korean Shows happened, and suddenly our industry didn't even bother to compete through our own identity. The industry either become too repititive using the old known actors/titles or xenophilic copying korean/japanese/western sensibilities losing its original charm. Just look at the recent MMFF winner, the movie looks so washed out and so westernized, it feels like a B-grade horror movie made by Americans. Until we have a cultural revolution to bring back the spirit and taste of old Philippino media comes back, being commercially viable won't take us anywhere.

We need thrillers, movies about the law, an attorney fighting for justice. I need them to do a time traveller love story future vs present pero dapat maganda ang execution. I don't care about the actors. Also, futuristic themes would be good. How does the Philippines look in the future with good CGI. Action movies with good cinematography. Also, good marketing strategy.

I think I'm fortunate enough that I rarely watch Filipino films because I wouldn't be able to see the "recycled stuff" they use and I'll be able to properly enjoy the film. It's why I enjoy a Filipino film when I see one.

been noticing this, FOR YEARS, the Romance are Repetitive, Comedy has been using the same exact joke that was said hundred years ago that only a 80 year old person would laugh at makes it so so Cringe, i've been in the Internet, that i just Prefer the other foreign movies, and i, want to make a story aswell, but the way those studios making stories is like "For the Money" and not for Entertainment, if they want money, they should make MOVIES that would Appeal Foreigners or other Genres, Like ACTION, SCI-FI, HORROR and FANTASY, only if we have very good CGIs, it's just tiring

  • @paulgomez6268

It would be Unfair to say that all Filipino movies are romantic movies because there are other movies that have a non-romantic but most Filipino movies are romance oriented. Maybe not all of them but most of them.

Me as an aspiring filipino filmaker can see this like why are the good cinematic films produced in this country have a low audience while those very common romance comedies with A-list celebs gets the most of our box office and audience like how? And WHY? And then our kababayans would think of our cinema as shit its because the rom con ones were very advertised by a big company and wouldn't see the hidden treasures buried, and hoping people and people who noticed this to do something about it.
