    turning ext power on will automatically close gen ties, no need to manually flip the switch. same as either gen coming online

      That is correct sir. 28 volt to the system will automatically close the Gen Ties if the system is working properly. If you will notice on the audio we also stated that fact but wanted to also state the need for Gen Tie closure IF the External Power source (GPU) is not utilized during an avionics database update. There have been a few situations we have seen where a GPU is not available and the database update is required. In that case there are two options: 1. Download the database update on battery power only if the pilot is assured the battery strength is sufficient for that operation. This option is not ideal and not recommended unless the pilot is very familiar with the download procedure to keep battery Ops at a minimum during download AND the pilot is very familiar with that aircraft and battery capabilities. 2. ⁠Start one or both engines and complete the database download with Generator power supplying voltage to the battery. This is the recommended procedure without GPU capability but is also a concern for fuel usage during the download which could be a detriment if fuel availability is an issue and on very long flight legs such as international flight operations over long distances, which we perform several international/oceanic deliveries per year. These options also pose some sort of challenges for which all of us as pilots must navigate and determine the best and safest course of action.

    Something my instructor always made a point on was never to bring your prop levers out of the gate together - only one at a time. This is a great educational video, thanks very much for uploading!
