I read Revelations 10 and shudder to think of what type of daughter, sibling, friend, employee, aunt, niece, cousin, coworker, neighbor and member of this earth I would have been had I not received the -- looking back -- discipline I received that included a belt and warnings and I love yous and hugs and massive quality time and fun and talks about everything under the sun. Fear of repercussions from my dad I realize was necessary to keep me disciplined and safe throughout my life when dealing with adults when I was a child and young adult as well as keeping me in my proper place in hierarchy in his absence. He never told me I have to obey or respect my brother, yet I do and all the sacrifices he makes. The love and discipline is so that as a woman I don't rise up against my mother when I become a woman though my family has experienced some challenging times. How to treat a man and family I learned from my mother, and it innately is in line with my way of being. If it is not who you are, then be who you are. We are not here to emulate other people's relationships and marriages and many times the advice you give and get is coming from a person you are nothing like. Some people should have never gotten married, and they know it. And if you are mocked for listening and receiving and heeding sound advice from your parents or siblings who are speaking from a place of wisdom and care and a different vantage point no matter your age, you may need reevaluate and modify your relationships. Also, remember the pressure black families put on their children to remain submissive to them as well as strangers and acquaintances who many times are out of line and do disrespectful things that border on the edge of-- I am exhausted. How I changed to this woman I am now is not because of my parents or some childhood traumas. It is because of you, whoever feels convicted if reading this. I didn't want to type this because it is not complete and easy to misinterpreted and take out of context and I feel I am not getting my complete point across about my appreciation I feel for those who love me. May God have mercy on me. He has given me grace.

The advice I would give to my 19- or 20-year-old self in the workforce is let them know two weeks is unrealistic for me if you want my best and that we need to educate the legal community.
