Stops at each icon include singing the Trisagion, a reading from one of the Gospels, and a prayer. The text of the Trisagion can be found below and...

The World Congress of the Coalition Abolition Prostitution or CAP will be held JUne 1 to 3, 2024 in Montreal. There will be forty plus speakers, many of them Canadian.
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for bringing St. Matthew's Church into all our homes and to Jim for his treasured ministry!
Thank you, Claire.
How long is the lockdown in public builidings such as churches going to last? I did read a few weeks ago that the lockdown could last as long as the end of June or even July.
The first key decision will be made by the province. A flexible approach is possible, to reflect differences among regions and activities. Direction by our diocesan bishop also governs our parish. Most age groups are at risk, but risks are elevated for vulnerable people who could contract the virus from those with no symptoms. Decision-makers are likely to be cautious, and each member of our community must be mindful of the risks for all.
Wonderful to worship with St.Matthews parish family! Farewell and thanks to Father Jim!
Thanks, Margaret.
Thanks to all for enabling us to be together on this Easter week. John McBride
Thank you, happy Easter!
Thank you All for this very moving service.
Thank you, Susan. Christ is risen!
Happy Easter to everyone from St. Matthew's. Thank you for helping us celebrate Easter in these unusual circumstances. Now, the Easter egg hunt!
Thank you, Denis. I'm glad you could join us, and that the Easter rabbit visited your neighbourhood. Christ is risen!
Thank you for this lovely service. Happy Easter everyone! Beautiful music Kirk. Patti Davis
Thank you, Patti. Christ is risen! Happy Easter to you and yours.
Will there be another service for Easter today or was this it? I am asking because when I got this email a few days ago, Reverand Beall mentioned to join at 10:00 a.m, but it happened to be taped earlier than that.
Happy Easter, Silvia! Each service or reflection is prerecorded. Parishioners and visitors can worship together at the scheduled time, or whenever it fits their schedule. In this case, hymns were recorded Wednesday evening, the organ postlude on Friday, and the service on Saturday morning. Creating the video and uploading takes hours, but it's always available in advance.
@@leonardsurges9531 I wish you, Kathi, your children, your dog, and all the rest of your family a very Happy Easter.
Thanks very much, Silvia, I'll let Kathi know!
God Bless all from St Matthew’s Ottawa and grateful thanks to the ones responsible for making Holy Week and Easter Service easy to attend in these unusual times.
Thanks for joining us. Christ is Risen!
Thank you. Stay healthy everyone.
Thanks, Patti, I'm glad you were able to visit us! This time, I wasn't just a disembodied voice behind the camera.
A beautiful piece, and very beautifully performed.
Thank you for this nice service and a reminder that solitude may be a positive state rather than loneliness which may be a negative state. I'm opting for solitude during these challenging times.
Thanks for visiting us online, Patti. Solitude is certainly preferable to loneliness, so we need to reach out to members of our community. We very much look forward to the next time you join us at St. Matthew's.
Thank you for this.
Warmest thanks for organizing this lovely virtual service and keeping our community connected!
Thank you, Claire, please give my regards to John.
Very comforting in this time of need. Thank you.
Thanks for your support and feedback!
Thank you for doing this, Jim, Leonard and Kathy!
Thanks very much for letting us know, Amy.
Great initiative and much appreciated.
Thank you, Neville.
Beautiful! Love the Eastern Orthodox sound with a distinct western influence by the composer.
Beautiful! Congratulations!
Thanks for your generous comment.
Love Christopher Argents setting of Silent Night
Argent's setting is most often sung at a midnight service at St. Matthew's, where he served.
Beautiful, thank you.
Beautiful, the music is from the heart
Beautiful <3
Brings memories of singing , and later playing the organ in my local church for 23 years at St Peter's Church, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. We had no choir, the congregation sang the whole setting of the Eucharist by Merbecke every Sunday.
Thanks for sharing the memories that this video recalls.
Very beautiful. Thank you for this. And thank you for the history in the description. God bless. +
This is what we use at our church.
I am pleased to say that we celebrate an Anglican High Mass to this Merbecke setting the first Sunday of each month at 11am at Wimborne St Giles, Dorset, UK, all welcome
Can I please have a copy of the sheet music for the creed
The setting we sang was published in Common Praise (Canada), which was published in 2000. It's an arrangement with organ accompaniment by Healey Willan, but was sung a cappella. You can easily find Merbecke's Booke of Common Praier noted online.
Hey Leonard. Nice to see you have a channel up. Cheers Rob.
Thanks, Rob.
This is indeed a very fine rendition - by a Canadian choir, not an English one. The latter would have been expected because the hymn is like a second anthem in Britain. There is a great and welling volumn from this choir, which is appropriate. And I think St Matthew's must be very close to 4th Avenue Baptist Church, at Bank St in the Glebe (or 'church lands'), built at least in part by my grandfather, Mr Alfred Ardley. Thank you for this.
You're absolutely right: St. Matthew's is between Glebe Avenue and First Avenue, near Bank, very near 4th Avenue Baptist Church. This was the final piece in the concert, for which the audience was invited to join with the choir.
Beautiful
HOWELLS!!!!!!!!! C'MON!!!!!
THIS IS HOWELLS PRECES!!!!!
Thanks for letting me know.
RIP John Joubert. Thank you for the music. I remember singing this in a choir some 45 years ago.
Very nice but this isn't the 1662 text, similar though it is.
No, it's not the 1662 text. The original text was from the 1549 BCP. Merbecke's settings were little used, because a new BCP came into effect during the short reign of Edward VI. It was rediscovered well over two centuries later, but only became more widely used in England as a result of the Oxford movement, more than three centuries after it was written.
@@leonardsurges9531 I don't think 'through whom all things were made' is either 1549 or 1662. 'By whom' is what they both say. I suspect much more recent theologians have been at work ...
Bravi!
This is great!
Pure magic. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I’ve had the opportunity to sing this beautiful music at my own church
These responses are by Herbert Howells, not Kenneth Leighton...
Thanks for letting me know.
We sing this at our church every Sunday. I’ve been obsessed with this since we began attending. At the beginning of this video, it said that this recording was from a disc or set of discs? How would one get a copy of the whole collection?
Sorry for the confusion: it's the only part of Merbecke's setting that was sung at that concert. This video outperforms all others on my channel. Others have expressed an interest in hearing other parts of Merbecke's settings. Our director of music is seriously considering recording more in the future: we're presently sidelined by physical distancing due to COVID19.
*I loooove Sir David's arrangements* 👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏👍👏
Wonderful. I wish A Great and mighty wonder had included all 4 verses.
Absolute banger back in primary school
So beautiful ❤
Remembering Henry Lawes who died on this day in 1662.
John Goss wrote some of my Favorite Hymn Tunes.
These are, in fact, the Howells responses, not those of Leighton.
Thanks for letting me know. I think that the error was in the notes for the CD, but will look for the scores and correct the listing.
congratulations on a lovely clear choral blend, good text and lovely phrasing.
Thanks very much.
Nice performance but recommended are the recording by John Shirley Quirk and also on youtube the Thomas Allen proms performance.
Thanks for the suggestions!
