My first competition was the infamous ALSALLE routine of 2007, and THIS was my last competition. I was the only one left that year who was also part of the 2007 squad, and you can't imagine how emotional it was for me when they called our name in Season 74 - dozens of cameras were focused on me absolutely crying my eyes out on center court, awash with feelings of redemption and vindication, pride and relief. Everyone kind of knew that UP was going to win, so all the other schools were really just competing for 2nd - we celebrated like CHAMPIONS (and the support from other schools was equally overwhelming). Notably, one of our girls dislocated her elbow near the beginning of the 2011 routine, but out of pure passion and ANIMO still performed to the end. #QUEEN There's nothing like starting from rock bottom, working your ass off for 4 years, and then finishing on top. I dedicated that "win" to my 2007 batchmates, for all we had to go through and rise above of. I was fortunate to continue my cheer "career" after graduation coaching with the NCC and performing with the then-nascent Team Pilipinas coed squad.

The DLSU Animo Squad was originally known in its pre-war NCAA years as Br. John Lynam's 1924 LaS Rah! Rah! Boys, then in 1926 as the LSC Yell Commanders. The DLSC Squad was the first and oldest Collegiate Coed Spirit Team in the Philippines. It was renamed decades later on as the post-war DLSC Cheerleading Squad, then in the 1980s as the DLSU Pep Squad until 2008, when it was renamed by Br. Bernard Oca FSC, as the present DLSU Animo Squad. The DLSU Green & White Spirit Team has since then won five cheer dance podium finishes in the span of its UAAP participation, in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2011, and 2013. The original Lasallian cheerleading spirit team was formally established from 1924 to 1926 with four LaS Rah! Rah! Boys/LSC Yell Command pioneers. Br. John Lynam's pre-war LaS Rah! Rah! Boys, as well as his LSC and DLSC Yell Commanders up to Br. Bernard Oca's present DLSU Animo Squad has been continuously cheerleading for 97 years. The original members of the LaS, LSC, and DLSC cheerleading squad were all male until the inclusion of female cheerleaders in the early 1970s. The DLSC cheerleading squad was the first spirit team in both the NCAA and UAAP to have female cheerleaders. The first female DLSC cheerleaders were cross-enrollees from St. Scholastica's College, Manila before De La Salle College turned co-educational in 1973. During De La Salle's pre-war years in the old NCAA, Lasallites enjoyed singing several battle songs such as "Men of La Salle!", "On Into The Fight - Green Archers Song", "Cheer! Cheer! For O'l De La Salle" and many more battle songs. You know why UST and UP cheered for each other? UST was really the national university of the Philippines but then it turns outs that the head of UST don't want to change the name UST to UP. So UP was build up and it was named as the National University of the Philippines (Sa Pagkakaintindi ko) A little bit of a trivia here. And I had a feeling na may connection yun kaya nagcheer sila sa isa't isa :) This is what I remembered when we had our Freshmen Tour last June 6, 2013! #GoUSTe! #LabanUP
