There are actual checks in the game for Max to have a romance with Chloe, the other ending if you've gotten 3/4 checks for Chloe you get to see them share a genuine kiss, but unfortunately it's only viewable in the sacrifice Chloe ending. it's heartbreaking.

I much prefer this ending! the the shit Max had been with Chloe through the fact Chloe is likely the only person she can actually confide in if she is alive, there is 0 way she isn't going through insane amounts of PTSD regardless of if she is alive or not. but without her she has no one she can actually talk to about in a way that can help her cope. Like she can't talk to a counselor about it and go into details as none of it happened in that timeline besides Chloe dying. her experience in the dark room, she can at least talk too Chloe about everything.

my theory of the deer is The first time you see the deer it's actually standing over the spot you find Rachels body, or leads you to where it is, but you don't know Rachel is there and there in the junkyard when Chloe is breaking down before it disappears, it lowers it's head as if it's sad, I believe the deer was Rachel or her animal spirit guiding Max to her remains, which I believe Max and Rachel share the same spirit animal if this is the case.
