I'm in ACT and have the same inverter (smile5-inv) and battery (smile-bat-10.1p) installed in Oct 2023 but apparently we are using power directly from the grid not from the battery once the sun is down. Contacted the installer but they can't figure out why. Do you think it is because they didn't install it correctly?

So if I have this implemented, in the event of a grid power cut, would it keep the power on in the house running off the batteries+solar? And what happens when the grid power comes back on, will the connection be restored back to normal? I run my house mostly off the batteries, changing them off solar during the day and off grid during the night on cheaper electricity if there was not enough solar during the day. Many thanks!

Hi Solar Shows, Thank you so much for this video. I cannot thank you enough, as I've a solar company in Adelaide who set up an Alpha ESS SMILE 5 10.1kW backup battery with its own inverter, but wired it in such a way that if the battery fails, the two backup circuits in the house will not switch back to the grid. I only found out by accident when I asked the electrician to leave it switched off until an inspector approves it. He said he can't do that, because you won't have power at night from the two backup circuits. This is a rental property and I'm liable according to the SA Tenancy Act. The company said they can add a manual switch for $750! I was shocked to that they'd charge to fix a problem they caused. The house should revert back to the grid is the battery fails. Otherwise, the battery becomes a big problem and a liability. Do you know anyone in Adelaide I can trust who may help me fix this? Or, is it possible to contact you via email to help me? I'll pay for your service.

Cant find the app because Amazon is trying to dominate the market but yes it's good and the 300w panels are made in USA, these are complete systems with all the hardware included , the inversion mode makes this system better than lots of other companys ,

There is a strange amendment in AS 1170 "Wind loading" that arbitrarily declares that the modules are to be twice the distance from the edge of the roof than the gap between the modules and the roof (The 2s rule). The edge capping in the example in this video removes all potential for wind loading underside so it is not relevant here. But such a general rule which has nothing to do with feasibility actually makes PV array installation less wind resistant by deterring the use of the purlins or rafters along the edge of the roof as rail fixing points resulting in excessive cantilever beyond the last roof fixing. By not using this edge hard point the array has the compound effect of leverage between the edge of the array to the nearest foot, usually 600mm to 800mm to the next purlin of rafter within the underside of the array. This rule therefore is merely a result of authoritative gratification by a circle jerk of power trippers in regulatory position who need to virtue signal self importance to validate their role as parasitic industry experts. The other rule about shading however is pragmatic as it affects yields. Crystalline Solar modules need only a small percentage of shadowing across the surface to render the entire surface area inactive for power production.
