People who climb Everest can’t wait to tell people who have no idea what it’s really like. They don’t tell you about the porters, animals, sherpas, supplies, oxygen, ladders, ropes, meals, medical care, facilities and assistance.

I bring one that's gone off twice! Once was while I was sleeping, the arrestor clogged up and smoke backflowed into the tent around 4am. I woke up before the alarm with headache thinking "it seems smokier than usual", then alarm went off and fully woke me into emergency "time to vent the tent!" Mode.

The first guy the last Grizzly is all correct but it happened in 1979. He was on TH-cam. Forget his name.

Plus, their group might conceal or bury a body. I would think that if one died, it would likely be from an age related illness and that individual would be near the others. They would know when he died. Even if one died as a result of an accident, it would be found by the others.

Honestly, I don't go into the woods without a gun. It's not even necessarily about the wildlife, more so about weirdos.

I have a whisper lite too, it is great for ultra heavy super cold winter trip. When the temps are under 20degrees there is no better stove imo. My normal go to is the brs3000, but it is horrible in anything under 20-30degrees, especially if there is any sort of breeze. That said, I haven't used the WL in 3years lol

I solo'ed the TRT in July of this year and these are my bear encounters. 1 - Early morning, just after the CA/NV border on the east side of the lake, I came across a bear who was also using the trail. Although we were hiking in the same direction, he was taking his sweet time and I needed to pass. Clapping, talking loudly , and yelling "Hey Bear!" did nothing. In fact, he turned around and started walking towards me with his nose in the air. Still shouting and clapping, I walked backwards slowly up the trail. When he was about 30 yards away, I pulled out my sun umbrella and frantically started opening and closing it, screaming "NO BEAR!" I'm sure it was a sight to see, but it totally worked. The bear turned and ran about 100ft off the trail, and I was able to hurry past. (Distances may not be accurate due to panic.) 2 - In the middle of the night I heard a bear cruising through the brush. I jingled my keys against my fuel canister and it ran off. Or whatever it was, ran off. 3 - I spotted a bear mid-day maybe 50 yards out, clapped my hands and gave one "Hey Bear!" and he ran further away from the trail. You guys shouldn't have any real problems with bears. I can't recall anyone carrying bear spray, but some people did have those bear bells. Everyone's experience with bears is different, so do what makes you feel safe.

The odds are 1 in 2.1 million to be attacked by a bear. You are 7 times more likely to get stuck by lightning. You guys will be fine.

We have been recognized three times to date. It was a surreal feeling each time, like wow, people are actually watching this stuff. Very cool!

We did The Foothills Trail this past June. We were out there for 8 days and 7 nights. On top of Sassafrass Mountain were pit toilets and trash cans. It was one of the most amazing moments on the trail, lol. Unloading about 5 days worth of garbage lightened the load so much!

Great episode! Our hikes are often with a lot of couples so this dynamic was fun to listen to.

Yes! Nothing better than sitting around the campfire after a long day of hiking and enjoying the company, your dinner, and drinks! One of my favorite parts about backpacking!

This has inspired a new goal. I would like to take a 100-mile trip! We logged 86 miles on The Foothills Trail so another 14 is completely feasible! Looks like this episode got cut off at the end, but Pictured Rocks is on our list. Spruce Knob in the fall would probably still be my most scenic trip.

Favorite setting so far! I absolutely love Archer's Fork. Thru-hiking dreams and trail bucket lists, they only keep growing!

Wow, Subaru's weight loss journey is very similar to my own. I've lost 45lbs in the past year and it has mostly been from cutting carbs, but I have added in quite a bit of exercise as well. Trying to keep the carbs low while backpacking is a challenge and I have found that it results in lower energy when doing higher miles.
