Thanks, I promote the traditional Kali/kalis which is a blade fighting system, not the Arnis which is stick fencing (eskrima). Very few systems you find in TH-cam use Kali/kalis.. I could mention a similar style they call kalis illustrisimo, but not exactly the same because they use terms which are Spanish terms denoting the Spanish sword fencing technique.

what do you call the strike when the blade tip is pointed down and it looks like you open your gaurd then strike comes up to cut across the opponents sword hip to their chest? at the 0:10 mark you use it as a parry to push a strike that was coming at your hip away used it latter as an underhanded strike. and again as a feint to a strike at strange angles. in European sword play its called 'reverse Jhook' and is illegal in most sparing and all matches. i used it in all my matches/sparing to show that 'honor' and 'rules' have no business in a fight. it is deceptively strong. can be snapped to make the strike a parry and flurrished as a display to confuse the sparing partner. hope those where basic enough terms that you can answer my question :) the more I watch Bola/Kali work the more I realize I prefer this mentality to how I was trained. :)
Thank you for your very relevant observation .. let me describe the exercise.. it cobsist of a downward parry towards the right then followed by a vertical circular and a parry with (bolo pointed to the ground, sweep motion) a j hook as you refer it, eu sword technique) then it transitions to a reverse fig of 8, as the blade completes the fir 8, at it's high, it repeats the downward parry on the right and repeats the cycle .. the angles vary according to which side you are trying to improve. Under optimal conditions, it ought to be a forward fig 8 transitioning with a sweep parry then a vertical circle strike in front then a reverse fig 8 towards the left ..thanks . I hope my reply helps
@@doccholosvlog interesting. do you practice striking at various points ov the figure 8? i used to do sword drills that in European train ing was called 'counting the line' you walk a line to the left keeping the imaginary opponent directly in front of you and make a strike at one ov the 8 directions 1) 45 degree strike at the opponents shield arm across their chest to their sword hip 2) 45 degree strike to the opponents sword arm across their chest to their shield hip 3) 45 degree strike from the shield hip up through the chest towards their sword arm 4) 45 degree strike from the sword hip up towards the shield arm. 5) horizontal slash across from your right to left 6) horizontal slash across from your left to right 7) over head chop to head 8) J hook (almost like an upercut blade striking at groin and aiming gupward) after 10 rotations (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1,2...etc) you repeat walking right. then repeat advancing. then repeat retreating so you get used to striking at the basic areas in all 4 directions then you do the same steps with switch stance (leading with your sword foot. (in European sword play you lead with your shield foot) after that repeat for both stances doing the basic 8 blocks. and finally you get to freeform and practice combo strikes and feints :P hope that made sense. i enjoy watching others learn and practice their martial arts. i like seeing the similarities between such distant cultures and times. and I like learning why I enjoy certain stances or strikes more than others. thanking you for humoring this disabled freak
@@nunyanunya4147 yes I do go into all possible directions specially when I combine fig 8 with other patterns. In Kali, sinawali (weaving) is the most common pattern so sinawali plus fig 8 forward and reverse will make the exercise worthwhile with a lot of sweating.

Mabohay friend! I am American Al and I married my Filipina about 16 years ago as she's a Good woman. We lived near Davao and on Samal island on and off for years and now we are seemingly Stuck here in The US. Yeah- this population in America can be most uncivilized and today 'here' carrying A stick and knowing how to use it seems more necessary now daily. That's an exercise for a child
Yes, it's for mild to moderate exercise, maybe not really for a child but for seniors or for those with physical restrictions such as cardio vascular conditions. Of course using these moves with sharp instruments needs some skills.

What is the difference between escrima: kail and: arnis?
1. Escrima is fencing.. a kind of sparring using a thin foil sword as weapon. During the Spanish occupation of the Ph, they called sparring with Arnis stick as escrima.2. Arnis is a Spanish term for arm or armor (handheld weapon). It refers to the rattan sticks used in place of the bolo which was banned during the Spanish colonization. 3. Kali, is derived from the word kalis which is a type of bladed weapon used by Filipinos since 13th century. The Spaniards popularized it as Kali because Spanish language usually minimises the "s" sound at the end of the word and in the advent of Filipinos going abroad, they spread the fighting style pronouncing it without the "s". So Kali refers to the use of the bolo while Arnis was the use of the Arnis stick called Arnis de Mano. But these are now mixed up and labelled together as fma, Filipino martial art.
